I have been looking at his stats and they are only marginally lower than last year despite getting a lot less ball kicked his way. I do accept that he has been poor but it has got me thinking. Cloke would not have been dropped last year, yet here we are set to drop him this year for Cox who has been playing ruck all year in the VFL.
Am I the only one that thinks maybe the reason they're being harder on Trav now is because he is in the 4th of a 5 year deal and he needs to achieve certain criteria to trigger a big pay day next year, one of those triggers most likely being not being that he doesn't get dropped for poor form? Maybe they want to free up some space to spend elsewhere.
AmellyPies, says "no."

I say.......

Today only proved what a rabble our club has become, from top to bottom.
You drop an AA player to regain form. The team plays like spuds and are out scored and out pointed all over the ground. But the ball spends minimal time forward of the centre line.
So what as a coaching panel, and I include the AFL coach as he does have a say in our "development squad"?
You anchor the player inside the F50!
Even when the game is gone nothing changes.

the bloke has always been psychologically frail and i think he has given up mentally. was a star but couldnt give a f*** if he plays well or not now. always a risk with players on long contracts for huge coin. he needs to be flicked at seasons end and whatever we get for him is a bonus. the issue we have then is that he then turns it on again at a new club. none the less we should free up some cash and a spot in our 22. also sends a massive statement to the rest of the underperforming players that no one is safe and pull ya finger out.

Has he given up or genuinely out of form and confidence.

He's pretty good when he gets going

Can anyone else tell me which other forward besides faz is doing well in the AFL or VFL ?
I'm guessing forwards have not much chance with the current game plan of the last 4 years .

It would be interesting if getting dropped to the VFL (and now you'd assume he can't be recalled for next week either...) did in fact have a significant impact on his triggering of a fifth year on his current deal.

Even though he shouldn't be there, I'll be supporting Clokey today, and several others who should be back next week versus the Eagles.

Hope is not lost, it's just confused in a pile of shit at the club at the moment.

Do we really want Cloke back.

I don't he deserves it after his VFL game.

Only be for Structure reasons

Tell me you weren't a little more hopeful when it was Cox lining up for the first goal and not Cloke. Imagine the players. Imagine if Cloke had missed it. That first goal was huge.

The team clearly did not miss him Cloke one bit. Top call by the club to drop him. It should be standard practice that if senior guys consistently under-perform they have a spell in the 2's until they can re-earn their spots. We want to get games into young guys don't we.. so why play consistently under-performing senior guys based purely on a hope that they will regain past form.

His game wasn’t bad in the VFL, but it sure as shit wasn’t the endeavour that Mason Cox showed either. Cox played for his life. Cloke isn’t showing that. I can’t justify selecting him for West Coast despite just about everyone in the media lining up to say it would be a mistake.

Agreed. Can't remember why I was so pissed off that he was dropped.

I loved watching on today being confident we'd kick it through the middle. Not having to cover my eyes for Cloke's kicking is a relief and we play a lot better without him for some reason.

What has been most disappointing from Cloke is that he is an experienced player who should be doing a lot more in a team of largely inexperienced kids. Yes, he's not the only one, however, he really hasn't done a lot for a long time and given his position in the team, he plays a vital roll.

Cox today showed what we need. Some aggression and competitiveness in the air and on the ground.

Maybe the game plan today was very different because Cloke wasn't playing. Can we play this way with Cloke back in the team? I'm not sure whether Cloke can adjust to a different structure.

I wish Moore was at the age where he could just blow games open so we don't have to worry about Cloke. (He's not that far off it)

Cloke's attitude is shit, it became evident during the contract saga, and even more so with the nude photo scandal and him selling his house for $3m.
In it for the money and I think Bucks has woken up to it.

We played man on man in defence a lot more, that much I doubt had anything to do with Cloke though.

Not sure was about the back line. Obviously the midfield hit form, but the forward line seemed to look more dangerous with plenty of movement. A lot of crumbling today and that was because we contested in the air well.

Bucks on Footy Classified indicated that he had been talking to Trav for 5 or 6 weeks about his form. Tellingly he intimated that he had fallen out of love with the game. He put Cloke in the same category as Swan about making big calls on their future. Much more was said but Bucks indicated Cloke needed to show him a body of work so I guess VFL is where he needs to regain form and passion right now. Publicly that is a major statement from Bucks.

I was shot down early last week for letting everyone here know he was playing in the VFL. It appears Trav maybe at a career defining moment. Outside influences affecting his footy? I hope he gets it together sooner rather than later.

I love Trav but I've been thinking for a while now he's not going to be our forward that's going to take us to our next premiership. We need to look for other options I feel. I hope he comes back with some form in a couple of weeks and plays a good role but he's not going to take games apart anymore.

I think Bucks also said that Trav will be a key part of our best 22 this year - but he needs to go back to playing hard... Which he hasnt been doing all year.

It was the right call to drop him - but i hope its not long term... Because the team will look much better when we have a firing Trav who is constantly moving on both sides of the ball and putting in 2nd and 3rd efforts. He just need to watch a video of Cox, or himself as a youngster, to see what level of energy is required.

But right now - theres nothing from his VFL form, or Cox's AFL form to suggest that that change is happening soon.
