'He has never played the game at any level'
Doesn't fill me with an enormous amount of confidence.
Shaun Hampson has had an AFL career without ever playing the game it's no biggy.

Ah crud. Phrasing.Dude he's only 17.
Mike Pyke got a premiership medallion and he switched to AFL at 24.Shaun Hampson has had an AFL career without ever playing the game it's no biggy.
Could be doing a free degree and living on campus at a prestigious uni a couple of hours from Manhattan.
Or Princeton. As we all know, real talent goes to Yale.
Or Princeton.
: Sideshow Bob grumble :
I know. He hates Princeton.Sideshow Bob went to Yale ...
Yes.Is Cat B the same category that we picked up Eric Wallace in?
Fits kr's narrative of dumping Goldstein if we were to replace him in the team with Preuss and make Jeffries the understudy. No cons, only pro's, project ruckman for practically zilch, no need to use a late draft pick or rookie pick, probably still growing into his frame, possibilities are huge, if it ends up a bust, no biggie.
He's 17 and will be playing VFL to become familiar first.
We're not giving up draft picks or a spot on the list off the bat.
I like this. Is a ranga is he not? Might have a bit of mongrel in him.
And what do we have to lose? Not much I would suggest.
And that is one more reason for me to never use FB. But that is a solid line.
Totally agree there. The Big Russian's track record of developing ruckman is starting to look very good. If he pulls this one off, he's a certifiable genius.
Werribee v Princeton - Kenny v Animal House.I still for the life of me have no idea why he gave up what he did to take this Cat B spot on our list, to play VFL Reserves next year, in a game he's never played before. He must really hate his parents.
I'd say the coaching staff put him through his paces and got a fair idea of his potential. Perhaps they're convinced that he'll have more of a potential career in AFL than in rowing. Also, there's more professional AFL players than rugby in Australia. Probably why so many leave cricket and basketball. There's so many more professional AFL players, the likelihood of earning a good living is higher.I still for the life of me have no idea why he gave up what he did to take this Cat B spot on our list, to play VFL Reserves next year, in a game he's never played before.
