Jake Lloyd

Player Profile

Jake Lloyd is a ball magnet, an endurance machine, a clean user of the footy and a calming influence on the Sydney Swans’ half-back line. The former rookie-listed Swan averaged 27.22 disposals per match between 2016 and 2019 and won the club’s 2018 Bob Skilton Medal. Lloyd became the quickest Swan in history to reach 100 senior games when he ran out against Hawthorn at the MCG in Round 8, 2018. He was then recognised as one of the best players in the league when he was selected for Victoria in the State of Origin match for bushfire relief in February 2019. Draft history: 2013 Rookie Draft selection (Sydney) No. 15; 2014 AFL Draft rookie elevation (Sydney).

i always remember when Lloyd came into the reserves. I have written this before years ago. When he was defending he had his hand on the player. As soon as the ball was in Swans hands he was 20 metres away demanding the ball.

He is built like a twig. It makes no sense having him defend.
It makes much more sense having him on a wing or whereever he has space. He knows how to use space better than most. He is clean on getting the ball. He knows how to get into space. He can also deliver. I like him more forward. I will still back him in to kick a goal.
The game is too set in stone with defenders have to be either extremely physical these days or be extremely athletic.

Lloyd really isn't one of those and gets caught out in defence especially as the years goes on.

I was wrong about him as a small forward, didn't think it would work tbh. But here we are Lloyd is a goal sneak small forward

He started as an onballer and was good at it. We had a stellar midfield so he went back. For the most part, he has been really good at that too.

I know Dattoli is playing this week (though he is seemingly just a Hayward replacement), and there's also potentially Cleary and Sheldrick we have to find something to do with if both get full games. But I kinda hope Lloyd plays as more of a permanent forward this time. I feel like his superior fitness and work rate has almost worked against him the last few weeks because he gets sucked in to working up the ground and helping out, even in defence. I'm actually OK with Lloyd only getting like 10 touches instead of 20 if they're all in the front half and productive in scores.

Nah, He’s just a skinny flanker nearing the end. Got enough of those. Campbell much better than Lloyd.
Gee that's dismissive! I'm not actually a big fan of Lloyd but I feel that he's earnt a bit more respect than "just" plus in no universe is Campbell a better player when both are "on".

Lloyd’s a great bloke, met him, and he’s been a great clubman. Watched his career since he was the king of clangers early on then became a composed backman.

However, he’s been on the decline for a while now and it’s time to move on. We need to give the youngsters a turn now.
It’s time.

So why so dismissive? Glad I'm not a friend of yours.

Glad he's turned it around after looking absolutely done. You don't want to see good players go out like that.
I'm not against another year, but I do question why we wouldn't wait until after the trade period and see what comes up and what the list looks like before making a definitive call. Get they know more inside the walls but why the rush, we should be getting all the data first.
