Player Watch #44 Sydney Stack

Still needs to be a point where a decision needs to be made, he’s been on one year deals for the last few seasons and still apparently hasn’t improved on his training and professionalism

Can’t just endlessly pour resources into someone who isn’t ready to grow just in case this time he might have turned it around

He’s had more chances than most, if he wasn’t as talented as he is he probably would of been shown the door after the incidents at the Gold Coast and back in the WA

I dont disagree with that either

Would have loved Sydney to reach his potential- cant remember the last time someone broke an oppos collarbone with a legal hip and shoulder - although it was only glass jaw viney

Name one other player who was played out of position for an entire season with no real result, then delisted. And I am not talking players without the required talent. Stack's talent is A grade.

And I have said for months that his papers were stamped, so I am not solely blaming the club.
And his work ethic and professionalism is D grade

What a great example that would be to the entire list when a bloke comes back unfit and is allowed to get games in his 'preferred' position
Fact of the matter is Rioli , Baker & Short are all well and truly ahead of him and deserve the role they play
SS needed to get his shit together get fit and dominate VFL and he didnt he showed glimpes which the supporter base creamed over because we all wanted him to make it.

Too bad didnt work out - Move on

Dimma was playing outside his wife's bed and he's still coaching, some serious shortcomings there, but I guess Richmond don't do shortcomings as well as they do "vulnerabilities" where the players are concerned.
Has nothing to do with Stack being lazy and not prepared to work hard in the off season

And in hindsight probably what should have happened

I go past his talent and look back to why such a talented player didnt even get a rookie spot in his draft year and if not for Richmond he would have probably never played AFL.

The same reasons he didnt get drafted , Still exist after 4 years

It's still possible Stack could be back to fight for a rookie spot imo
Absolutely no chance he gets rerookied by us.
otherwise around in circles we continue to go.

Hmmmm

Counter argument is that it is the employers job to get the best out of the employee, seen plenty of times in professional and sporting life where the employer has failed to do this and people have gone on to be successful elsewhere.

Imagine Eddie betts turning around both Stengle and Stack in the Yellow and Black!

Maybe it was Richmond’s approach that missed the mark.

There are 30 or 40 players on a list, Stack was given many opportunities that others didnt get and he didn't take them.
Maybe someone like Eddy can get the best out of him but you can't structure a club around one player and each year clubs have to let some players go that's life.

Is that because Stack was cheating the club and himself whereas Dimma just cheated on the woman he had kids with?

What’s Dimma’s private life got to do with the club? Let it go mate. You look and sound like an idiot

Was one of our most exciting players on the list with one of the highest ceilings. Why didnt we play him this year? How many games did aarts get in front of him?
Had plenty of chances , he never beat the door down at VFL like aarts did , 15-16 touches would be about it . following his stellar 2019 his performance at senior level ranged from dreadful to average , yea I think time for both parties to move on

The problem with Stack is that he never really showed an improvement in his approach to all the off-field stuff in all his time at the club. We all know he has oodles of talent but it takes more than talent to make it at AFL level. It requires total dedication and the preparedness to go above and beyond with training and attitude. It is a real shame, as we all thought he could have been an A-grader, but his attitude never allowed him to get there with us. He was also becoming a bad influence on some of our youngsters and the club did the right thing by delisting as much as I loved what he could bring to our side.

As for comparing him with what our coach did in his private life, seriously, whoever thinks they are comparable, needs to grow up and understand such basic differences such as what happens in your private life that remains private and what areas of your private life actually affect your performance at your job. Dimma's divorce did not affect his coaching even if some players didn't respect his personal decision. That was up to them to learn to accept and had nothing to do with Dimma and his role as a football coach.
