#5 Jarrad Grant

I really did not want us to draft Grant at 5, but the more I hear about him, the more impressed I get and I am starting to think that it is a great selection.

This thread has the results of all the Vic based players pre-season + screening tests.

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=397830

Grant had a 12.1 result pre-season and 12.2 result post season. Robbie Tarrant went from 11.1 to 14.2.
Thanks
Our other forward line pick up Bouman had 12.01 and then 12.12.

Still I'd like to know the results of people that are actually playing the game.

I think that might be considered by most clubs as being extremely confidential information once players are listed with them.

If these 2 guys beep tests go up to the high 13's or low 14's the last people we want knowing it are our opponents.

But you should be able to draw a good benchmark line by looking at the shuttle-run (beep test) results from previous drafts, eg. Judd was 15.1 or 15.2 on his beep test the year he was drafted.

I'm fairly sure this information is pretty easily available. I've heard results of players like Cross before.

Anyhow fairly useless drawing a benchmark for a running midfielder with a KPP. How about talls in drafts gone by?

This is all of course pointless seeing as the beep test does nothing to measure endurance over 120 minutes.

Hard to find beep test result info but if you do a google like "Lance Franklin beep test" you get the odd ones.

So heres a few big guys

Lance Franklin 14.1, Mitchell Brown 14.1, Lachlan Hansen 14.3, Adam Pattisson 14.2, Scott Gumbleton 14.2 and Bo Nixen 14.01

Unfortunately you can not replicate an AFL match situation for 120 minutes.

A TAC match just would not have the same intensity nor ball movement speed.

So I suppose the AFL/AIS consider that the beep tests along with the 3km time trial are worthwhile in measuring aerobic performance, otherwise they would cease to conduct them.

Of our current players Farren Ray has an impressive 15.01 on the beep. An interesting post from another thread I copied and pasted below follows.

QUOTE=1Mitch1;7526132]don't be suprised of a 15 something as the highest beep test score. i was looking through a thread on the afl one and some people were saying players like chick judd and mitchell completed the beep test with scores of 22 and 23. This is virtually impossible to get because at stage 22/23 you would need to be doing 2.8 seconds, which is not impossible if your not doing the beep test but actually doing the 20 m sprint, but after getting to this stage(22,23) it would be impossible because you would physically be wrecked and drained and wouldnt be able to do 2.8 seconds at stage 22/23 in the beep test. The highest score in a beep test i am aware of is shane crawfords 16.5, which is still a bl**** good effort.

I have only read good things about this kid but their must be a downside as well. The only downside i see is i think he is probably to skinny at the moment to succeed at AFL level. I would love to be proven wrong next year but i think he wont be a major player for at least 3 years.

Does any one have any footage of him playing footy ?

People read too much into beep test.

A beep test just highlights fitness. The last one I did (5 years ago) was 14.2. That is only because I have always been fit with running, swimming, netball (yes mixed and mens) and a few footy seasons. I would always win the 5 k runs etc yet I was not the best footballer.

For a guy like Grant his speed off the mark and reading of the flight of the ball is more important and a natural ability.

On a good day, elite AFL runners like Crawford, Cousins, Judd etc push 16+.

Generally the top performing players on a normal test day get 15.9 to 15.13. The average is hard to gauge because players are all at different stages of fitness but about 14 is a rough average. I think Sampi at his unfittest ran 11 and it was a significant reason why we delisted him.

Also players obviously improve the longer they are in the AFL environment so Grant can be expected to improve significantly over the next 3yrs if he puts the work in.

Can anyone tell me where video's of this guy playing footy are? Looked around the afl website but couldn't see any...

Looks like an amazing golfer from other video's on here.

Cheers

I watched the Lions game last night and "big" Lachlan Henderson looks to be a top prospect. He presented well all night and took some contested marks while kicking 3 goals on quality defenders. He also provided a couple assists.

Does anyone suspect whether Jarrad Grant will get a game at senior level this year? I have noticed a lot of people have said that he does not have the size to get a game this year. So I am hoping he becomes a quality CHF while the likes of west, jonno, aka, welsh, hudson and eagleton are still around.

He might play a few senior games but this year should be more about him playing for Williamstown.

I really hope this kid turns out to be a star and hopefully sooner rather than later because first impressions of Henderson are that he is a ready made player.

Not too sure if i get this.. We were tipped to take Henderson kid.. He look very good in the forward line.. Could this be another Buddy franklin mistake?

Do you think it is too early to call on one NAB cup game that Henderson played?
Do you think Buddy will maintain his great form of 2007, or will he be double teamed?
Or do you think the answers to your question will be answered in another 3-4 years time?
