Can we please not taint this thread which is about J Daniher with any more Gumby comparisons? 2 different beasts and one clearly has much more upside than the other

No.
Lemme just bask in the ambience here.....
So, if you have a forward line of Gumby AND Daniher, as a midfielder what do you do? Just kick it up??
Crameri would have a ****ing field day in that line up. Third defender and he could just position himself at the feet of the poor bastards trying to compete in the air with Daniher and Gumby.......
That'd be pretty cool, I just worry that with Ryder and Hurley as well as Gumby and JD it would lack a bit of speed and mobility up forward. A lot of teams last year with less tall timber than we are talking about here ended up subbing a big guy off to introduce more pace into the team, and with the changes to the rules making mobility even more important I think smaller, faster forward lines might be more common.
Of course it could be a moot point; if Hurley spends some time down back and Gumby spends some more time in hospital it never may become a selection issue. Also all the aerobic training they've been doing might put some of the my preconceptions about tall players to rest too.
Our you saying we are aiming for a team of 22 good playersJD is the 'new' breed of tall.. he is quick and mobile with very good hands down low. You only have to look at NBA to see that you can be 'tall' and still athletic!!
What we are heading towards is a system (imho) that means all 22 guys are good runners, good ball handlers and also tall..
I look at Ryder, JD, Gumby, Hurley as examples, Tbell is also not the slowest ruck around.. so no reason why we can't be a little taller than defenders and still be able to pressure the ball coming out /rebound.

Article on the Essendon website suggests Hird may look to play him more than was first thought.
Godd signs for the young fella, perhaps a Nick Riewoldt/Justin Koschitke debut/second year season for Joe.
Remember Nick Riewoldt killed it as a beanpole? Im in the same boat as you, I hope he is smart enough to know his way around a football field..
Agree.
People need not be concerned about him being rag-dolled. His great strength is to mark at the highest point with his hands outstretched, perfect for marking on the lead.
He showed that he is also capable of body-on-body marks, hwoever we are not reliant or expectant of this until a few more years.
I think he'll play 15+ provided he remains fit.
Do we though?Keep seeing this photo used in articles about the players during this whole fiasco, and can't help thinking; "Well, at least we know Giant Joe is safe."

Jesus!Bloody hell, didn't know Joe was so much taller than Hurley.
