Speaking of mental health issues I imagine most players would have to forgo antidepressants right?
In my experience as a sadboi most SSRIs mess with you a bit physically so it's hard to imagine a professional athlete being able to stay at the level while taking them.

I would think if you are clinically depressed, you take them.

Just to plant a cautionary flag about focusing too narrowly on happiness, Huxley's Brave new world is a good counter, a lot of people find meaning in life through struggle and meaning is a better way to orient oneself than the search of happiness which is transitory. In addition when dealing with mental health issues and depression searching for happiness can leave a person lost and hopeless, especially for anhedonics. The mental landscape in Sydney will probably look much the same.
Quality book. Depressing and yet incredibly believable.

It would make it tough, they would probably want to exhaust other options first and begin medication in the offseason, to avoid the ramp up and get the dosage right. Given the variable side effects, some players would be stable enough to compete.

He's got to do what he feels is right for him, if that means staying great, if it doesn't it's a bummer but not the end of the world. I hope he finds peace and happiness as god knows the alternatives are fairly shit.

You’re right, we should focus more on Huxley’s Doors of Perception and transcend happiness altogether by popping some mescaline buttons.

Not sure about that that. Yesterday they wrote about Ben Reid on the move, yet same day it's announced he's signed a one year contract.

Social media and the growth of the trade period has created this sort of monster where all these reporters are scrambling to be the first. I think some just go on hunches that may be from people connected with the club or even in the club, but not close enough to the people who actually work in trading & recruiting.

I know a few in the media. They do not go on a hunch or they will be without a job pretty quickly. Everything comes from a genuine source. They do not all work out but it is coming out of club land or player managers. Trust me clubs actually leak a bloody lot of stuff about players they think may be available.

He just needs to get back to playing. He's obviously had some dark days the last 2 years, but If this surgery is successful he can come out of it as a better person and player and lead us to glory with his best mates. Wonder if hes spoken to Hird. Brownlow in 96, 97/98/99 ruined by injury, 2000 premiership/norm smith.

Yes journos can’t make a living on hunches in journalism in general. Trade period is another kettle of fish. Look back on past periods and you wonder on their sources. Happens in other leagues around the world.

Yes managers and teams leak all the time, but like I’ve said some journos get leaks from club but not all at a club are privy to proper info.

How would they be without a job? There is no consequence for reporting something that turns out to be false. And a lot of them have a terrible strike rate.

There is now days. You end up on some backwater social media site as a blogger pretty quick if you are way out of the ball park too many times.

We also have the whole thing driven by Hutchy who is becoming a very powerful figure behind the scenes.

You only have to listen to him speak about the web traffic certain articles get to realise the more they can manufacture discussion being right and wrong isn't that important.

The open discussion of moves and possible moves is the product. It's fantasy football, water cooler talk packaged as a product for consumption which generates more talk and discussion. It feeds itself.
Someone can come out tomorrow with a whisper that Buddy for Daniher will be switching clubs so we aren't without a forward in the immediate term. It's total rubbish but it works and generates discussion. The managers won't shut it down because it's good for the brand awareness of the players. In 6 months time no one cares it didn't happen except the revenue and clicks it generated at the time.

Have you noticed that in the last 3 or 4 years the predictions have become a lot more accurate ? and when I say clubs I am not talking about the door guy or someone on the periphery . The leaks are from inside football departments and they have a purpose weather that is to undermine another club or put pressure on the complete a trade. The back room stuff has changed a bloody lot since I first got involved in recruiting. I say what I do because I speak to the contacts I have made over the years on the inside of football departments. Clubs are very cunning in strategic leaking. Over the years you build up friendships with lots of people in different areas.

You still need a starting point. Buddy for Joe does not get off the ground without Joe being seen meeting Sydney's CEO no matter how innocent the visit is.
There is no point blaming the media either. If there was not a blood lust for this sort of stuff from Mr Public then it would not happen.

This sounds very familiar to a poster on here that used to quote his own Twitter as a source.

I agree there has to be some substance to a narrative. Otherwise it doesn't capture people's imaginations and doesn't become a talking point.

But I don't blame the media at all (I dislike them) I totally understand why it is the way it is.

We only have ourselves to blame when it comes to social media and click bait type headlines.

Buddy is past it whereas Daniher hasn’t hit his peak yet (unless 2017 was his peak)
