Just to get right ahead of ourselves: whether we finish 6th,7th or 8th, if we won our first final we would likely be the lowest placed winner in week one of the finals. I think this would mean we'd most likely play the loser of 2 and 3 in week 2 of the finals. This looks like Adelaide or Sydney away.

We are more likely to play Geelong at etihad (which i have no problem with) now than WC. Love it if Syd could beat Geelong and we possible jump into 6th and a home final against North or Geelong at home!!;) One day the media will start looking harder at us, just hope its not for a four more weeks...

We should go for broke. Forget the derby final, who gives a shit about that?

If Geelong lose and we win, we face North. Either at the MCG or at Subi. After today's match, isn't this preferable?

The derby is 50/50, and both sides could belt the shit out of each other physically. We play finals standards football now - North do not. Their high uncontested style game should be exposed by us wherever we play.
This, just go for broke.

Who cares what team it is. Any place, any time, any team.

Yep i really dont care who we play.

I believe anytime we approach the game with the right attitude and intensity we can beat geelong, roos, and egirls.
Apply the pressure and work as hard as we did today will cause all those teams problems.

The higher ranked teams have abit more class which helps them to cope with it better, making them harder to beat.
Until we get abit more class to handle the pressure those teams apply we will struggle against them.

Bring on the finals 2012.

If we get you guys at the G i would expect a much better performance from us.
Today's game could be a valuable lesson if we face Freo in the finals.
We will have Wells & Grima back by then.

wallabies play the springbocks in a rugby test on the first saturday of the finals weekend i'm pretty sure, this will pose a few headaches for the fixturing department
Yep i reckon WC Friday night - wallabies sat night - Freo Sunday 1100-1300 star time final - 8 day break would be good, but we'd be back to a 6 day break for next one - over east somewhere...

Assuming Cats have beaten the Swans, surely you would rather play West Coast at home, than travel over to Melbourne to play the Cats.

Ordinarily i'd say yes, especially as we can see the game live - but for the team's development it's better that the who and when becomes irrelevant. We need the team to develop the confidence to back themselves against all comers. Even if it means we don't travel far into the finals, the mindset and establishing that culture is more important IMO

I'm with Clay. Bugger a derby final, in fact, who wants to share a 50/50 game with them first up when it's not in our best interests and there are better options for us? Best case scenario for us is we make it to 6th, and get a home final against North (which we would, of course, presumably win).

And extrapolating further - then it would be good if:
  1. WCE made it to 4th, lose the QF and get a home semi.
  2. Geelong def Collingwood in the EF, making Geelong the lowest placed winner, and then they would play the loser out of the 2/3 QF, while we would play the loser out of the 1/4 QF - meaning...
  3. We would get another home game for the SF as we would be playing WCE. This would then be a 50/50 home game, and it means we wouldn't have travelled for the past 2 weeks, while WCE would have travelled both of the past two weeks. We would have the decided advantage in their home semi.
  4. Beat them and we find ourselves in a Prelim, and from there anything is possible.
Ah - it's fun to dream...
