Ziebell needs to be replaced but would not be thrilled if it were by Corr or Perez. Corr is close to 30 and is average at best, and Perez has shown nothing at this level and has very little upside. Young or Dawson would be my selections.

It all depends on the structure of the defence. I think we have been developing the backline around personnel, not the other way around. While taking into account personnel traits is smart, it can't dictate strategy. Are we a 2 KP defending team or 3? Do we play an undersized 3rd tall instead (eg Bonar, Young, Jack). How much run do we need?

Not Jack's fault, but reckon he has affected the structure back there a fair bit.

Both JZ and LMac completely unbalance our backline and it should be our first priority over summer. It really should be addressed now but no chance of that happening.

Neither player gives you much needed run out of the backline, their disposal is below average and they don't match up well on opposition players because of height or legspeed issues.

Yep, a worrier of the club. One of the grapes.

He's a warrior and I love the bloke to bits but his limitations with ball in hand means we can't be as creative back there.

If we're serious, he is depth starting next year and we start rotating our young brigade back there.

The improvement alone would make it worthwhile.

I miss him taking contested marks in the backline and hitting targets.

Now he drops marks and hacks it out as soon as he gets the footy.

Played some great footy early in the year but has dropped off. Maybe needs a rest and a refreshed, he has been a warrior for our club

Not a massive fan of a current player putting their hand up to be on the coaching staff of the AFLW team.

Shouldn't be splitting focus mid season, leave it til you retire.

i dont mind tbh

a lot of people do things outside of footy this actually keeps his mind on it so if anything he has more focus on footy and tbh he shouldnt be getting games in the afl side so may as well spend time focussing on post footy career

Emma Kearney did it to coach the men's side.

I'd say that's a clear sign that this year will be his last

WTF? Guys doing degrees, apprenticeships, playing golf, cooking, PS5, setting up businesses etc etc etc. Should they be splitting their focus?

Yep. Its clearly obvious Jack is thinking post footy with this gig and with a young family needs to keep the income coming.

KANGAS VETERAN STILL TO DECIDE FUTURE

FORMER North Melbourne skipper Jack Ziebell wants to move into coaching after his playing days, but is yet to make a call on what his 2024 will look like.

The 32-year-old is out of contract at the end of the year and has joined the club's AFLW team as a specialist development coach, with a particular focus on the midfield.

"I haven't got to that stage of planning just yet. I've got a contract for this year and my plan at the start of this year was just to enjoy each week as it comes, and nothing's really changed around that point," Ziebell told AFL.com.au.

"When it becomes time to discuss plans for next year, we can get into that with the club and do what's best for everyone.

"As of now, we haven't had too many discussions about next year – and I'm just enjoying footy week in, week out – and will continue to do so until the time we need to have those discussions comes forward." – Sarah Black

Interesting. Jamie MacMillan, Wright, and Ziebell all with jobs within the club. We’re only missing Atley to have me fully convinced that Scott held these guys to a rolling 10 year deals to the club
