Ha ha. So it wasn't the well argued points made here that convinced you?

I think my love for Lennon May have had something to do with my aversion for Cripps. But now that Lennon has crossed to the dark side, I'm getting around Crippa.

So Cripps ran a 13.2 beep test coming off a low fitness base due to broken leg in 2012.

Compare this to Vlaustin who ran a 13.6 last year. Wingard 12.9 the year before.

With the expected improvement in fitness after being in an AFL environment & the natural improvement coming from recovering from his broken leg still, there's no reason why Cripps can't improve his endurance dramatically.

I told you I'd come around once he was ours ;)

Welcome on the bandwagon, saved a seat for ya ;)

Those results actually surprises me, just goes on to prove that as long as you can play footy, have good traits, fitness can just be improved once you're thrown into an AFL environment.

Still would have preferred a few other players over Cripps, watching Dumont slip to 30 was criminal.

Sorry but think you are wrong. Cripps to me seems to move much better than Dumont and his hands in congestion are as good as I have seen at U18 level.

Will be interesting to see the difference when he converts 5kg of puppy fat into lean muscle.

Have not read the entire thread but surprised his sidestep has not been mentioned.

He has a skill that is basically instinct and not teachable. A subtle little sidestep when he takes possession which gives him extra time to dispose. Decision making seems to be elite as well.

Great combination.

Really looking forward to see how he takes on his AFL career.

The comparisons for me in terms of Carlton players are Ratten and Williams in terms of his style of play. Lets hope he can translate it even half as well at senior level.

Each to their own, I still prefer Dunstan and Dumont. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out long term, hope I'm wrong. Acres is another name to consider as well.

I for one am happy that a East Fremantle boy was drafted, thought you would be too.
I'm sure the coaches and recruiting staff knows what they're doing.

Despite already being ranked 3rd in the AFL for clearances in 2013, I think the addition of Cripps with his vision and ability to sum up the situation and distribute the ball from the stoppage will contribute to many more clean and effective clearances once his body is fit for AFL level.

I haven't read the entire thread so I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but Cripps is coming of a broken leg 18 or so months ago, his athleticism will only improve, not that it's even that big of a worry considering his game style and other attributes he possesses.

"the Extractor" is what our recruiters call him.

Likened to Jobe and Josh Kennedy (Sydney) too. Big wrap for a kid!

Broke his leg two years ago and hasn't got his fitness back so from what I've read, the club are expecting a slow burn to start with.

Welcome to the best club in the land Patty!

The boy should fit right in at Carlton ... 6.5 minutes of highlights, not one tackle! :)

Welcome Pat. :thumbsu:

You weren't looking hard enough! There was at least one :p

Great point !!
Players like S.Black and S.Pendlebury have this ability in thier game and combined with good hands , good decision making , and good size , makes for a serious midfielder !! :thumbsu:

Reckon Yarran, Murphy, Lucas, Gibbs and Menzel will be running past for a receive if Cripps wins the ball at stoppage or in space.

That would be the general idea.

Carlton’s National Recruiting Manager Shane Rogers says Cripps has already been nicknamed “The Extractor”.

“That’s what we’ve called him all year, he’s a ball Extractor,” Rogers said.

“He’s got a Diesel Williams-like brain, so he can see things out the side of his eyes at the tightest angle. His strength is that he can win the clearances and feed the ball out.”

Big call by Rogers to suggest the above but he clearly does have very good awareness and is lightning at executing the handball.
Hope all the new kids are up and about at the club next week.

Giles and Holman should be there tomorrow from what I have read. But Cripps has some exams according to the CFC website he has to do first then he will fly over.

Be pretty hard to study for exams after being drafted!
