Now some of you may be familiar with what a League club is, for those that aren't its a fairly common occurrence in NSW. They are clubs owned and run by NRL clubs, essentially they are restaurants, with bars, pokies, horse/dogs betting facilities. Usually they have specials nights where meals are cheaper and they hold raffles etc. Anyway they family venues for the most part (though in other areas its over 18 only).

Most importantly though, they make money, a fare amount to be exact. Now I thought for a while now that its an area that the Adelaide Football club aren't taking advantage of, ofcourse I wouldn't think an AFC version of a league club would be exactly the same, I'd expect it to be the club in restaurant form, kinda like the Crows shed, except a bit more formal, and open everyday.

I club like that run and owned by the crows would bring in alot of money, and would be good link between the supporter and the club, much like the Crows shed players/coaches/club officials could occasionally make themselves present.

Another idea slightly related, would be if the club did something like this they could have the normal menu that these types of places have (all sorts of things) but at the same time they could promote healthy eating, especially if its a family venue (Though with alcohol), then kids there would be influenced to eat healthy given the nature of the club environment what with kids looking up to footballers and all. Viewing of Interstate games would be good too.

Ideally the best place for the club would be in the CBD, though if it had to be at West Lakes it would still be better than having no club at all.

With a club like the crows and its high membership as well as many non-membership holding supporters I think a club like this would take off as I've seen in numerous places in NSW. Hopefully then Steven Trigg and can smile about the clubs increased profits.

Members meal deals etc.

It HAS to be in the city.

There are SO many people I know (being an Eastern suburbs boy) who would go to a shitload more footy, and more than likely become members, if seeing and experiencing the crows wasn't a 45+ minute drive.

If the Crows are going for the growth, I can't see why they don't have a city presence already.

Sounds like a killer idea mate- email Triggy now :thumbsu::thumbsu: :D

i love the idea of a AFC club in the city but they have already invested in the crows tavern at aami and are building the $15m expansion there to eliminate the shed

We've already seen how the Alma has been transformed since Roo and Goody took it over. Its a bit of sporting focal point. Plus there would be a lot of supporters who go there a) to support a players bar and b) it prox to the city means its a great knock off venue.

League clubs in NSW benefit from historically owning prime land parcels in much the same way as RSL clubs.

I think the AFC should consider a seperate training ground and venue (combined) closer to the city, not aligned with an SANFL club, that would allow and encourage fans to come to evening training sessions and stick around for a meal and drink. The facilities could be rented to the public or operated as a public bar/resturant. Our spiritual home should be away from Footy Park. It should be in or as close to, the city as possible.

So yes, I too like the concept.

Sounds fantastic and yes EMAIL TRIGGY NOW :)

It would be good in the City and does anyone know when Roo and Goody are workin at the Alfa like in times and days??

I'll send off an email to Steven Trigg right now.

Afaik the Crows Tavern is owned by the SANFL and thats where its profits go.

edit:

Could someone PM me Steven Triggs email address because it appears that the afc website is currently dead in the arse.

The SANFL owns the crows and hence the crows tavern. There is limited to what the SANFL will allow the afc to do.

I do know that Trigg & the board have been exploring other options to increase revenue into the club.

Haha yea it is you have to enter it through the AFL website!

These days the NSW clubs make most of their money courtesy of the one armed bandits (pokies).

Not sure if the AFC would be able to get their hands on enough pokie licenses, particularly considering the way the SA Govt is set on reducing the number of pokies in the state (and entirely a good thing it is too).

Still, they are a good place to go for a cheap meal and drinks (drinks usually cheaper than the average pub).

With membership specials it would be good way of getting people to become members, especially getting people to become unticketed members.

Absolutely. They could create a new type of membership - members of the social club, around $5 per year (some clubs charge as little as $2 per year).

In most places, the rule is that you have to join the club on entry if you live within 5km of the club (they generally have a map showing the area in a big circle). Here in the ACT it's slightly different with all ACT residents expected to sign up if you want to use the club facilities. People living outside that area sign in on a (free) temporary membership. As far as I know this is more about ensuring that it is only people over 18 using the gaming facilities and hence claiming the winnings.

Everyone quotes the membership figures for the Southport Sharks on the GC, most of whom have these cheap social club memberships and little interest in the actual footy team.

Many people have for years wanted the crows to do this, the problem though lies with the SANFL. There are restrictions about how much the crows can borrow and the SANFL also has to approve any significant spending by the club.

The SANFL wont let it happen, they wont let the club undertake a loan for it nor will they approve the crows to spend money towards it.

The answer to all of this is for the Crows to take over Thebarton Oval, but the only way for Thebby to work is if the SANFL lets the crows build a super club there and if they did that it would work in a massive way. Rucci knows the SANFL wont let them spend a dime so he throws the Thebarton bone out there knowing full well that if the Crows went there they would find themselves in a substandard facility with limited finds to rebuild there.

whatever happens, the SANFL will rape us

and long term the SANFL's treatment of the AFC will have extreme adverse implications to the Crows

I noticed in Rip It Up yesterday that the Night Train has closed down. The building at 9-15 Light Square is being used for the Fringe but after that ...does anyone know who brought it?

Combine the night Train Room with the old Le Rox/Pool Hall room and it would be a great sized venue. I'd love to see the Crows look at buying a site like this.
