Am i alone in wishing we would play him in the middle? i have salivated over the prospect of this happening for a couple of seasons now but it does not seem to even be a consideration for the powers that be.

A perfect example when it may have been appropriate to throw him in the middle was last weekend Vs. Freo johncock was wasted for virtually the whole match. when down back he was dragged to the goal square and isolated by Hayden then when moved up forward had little effect appart from 1 goal (i think?)

at times during the game our midfield was lacking in both grunt and pace around the footy. we've all seen his brilliance in reading the ball off hands down back, do others think this could translate to success around ruck contests?

I realise he may not have the enigine but surely to pinch hit in there for 5-10 minutes in a game where he is struggling to shake a tag would be benneficial to the team?

Every preseason for about the last 3 years we heard same story about Johncock playing in the middle and how he is working on developing his engine. yet every year since then he still has got near the guts.

At least Craig has shown him a willingness to throw him forward, but I would like to see him start forward sometimes, and then pinch hit in the middle.

This is wishful thinking however given the current backline depletion.

Let's be honest here.
Johncock smokes ciggarettes, until he stops he won't be playing in the midfield, it just can't be done.

I'm pretty sure he still smokes too, but anyway, he's a great player regardless.

That's the problem. Pretty poor effort really, think what he could have been with a full set of lungs!

Where is the intervention that is just beyond stupid.
It's more dangerous then the things other players get delisted for using.

IMO, the way we are travelling, we can't afford to luxury of both Stiffy & Macca in the backline.

However, I reckon we have more of a need for them in the forward line as a crumber than in the midfield ... although the odd 5-10 min burst in the midfield couldn't harm.

I have long given up on hope that Johncock will develop his aerobic capacity to the point where he can be a midfielder. He has all the other tools to be a gun there.

With Bode out (and we are DESPERATELY missing him) I would like to see Johncock play as a forward. He would provide that little bit of bite there and his defensive side (chasing and tackling) would be a much needed aspect in the forward 50. He has a bit of a X factor as well and has shown in the past that he is a genuine goal kicker and match winner there. I still remember than game at Subiaco where he ran rampant and one of his shots at goal literally bounced off the top of the goal post :D

I think that day he kicked 6 against the eagles. Was that the year too he lead our goal kicking?

Johncock is actually a great overhead mark for his size, if he was matched up against a small defender he would dominate up forward IMO.

Stiffy and Kane. I also dont mind the idea of Johncock in the forward line... as long as his replacement is adequate

We ask NC to make match day moves and he did on Saturday by moving Stiffy to the forward line but he left Mattner in the back poclet????

My move would have been Mattner forward and Johncock back. Douglas played in the BP against Western Footscray Dogs and I felt he handled it well....I think he can do it again and then Johncock can move forward at times..maybe alternating Douglas at times

I couldn't agree more and I suggested this very move after the Freo game in one of the threads.

Douglas to BP/HBF to take Johncock's place and move Johncock forward to fill in that hole that has been created with Bode out.

Makes sense to me Stiffy.

Craig needs to try something different, as the current game plan is broken.

Agree 100% with this. He has not got a hope of playing midfield because of his fitness level. Macca however, is still capable of bursts in there I think. If Macca is up back, play Stiffy in the forward lines (at least until we get Bode back). If they put Macca in the middle, drop Stiffy back.

I would love to see stiffy in the midfield, surely he could at least get a five minute burst in there every once in a while. If not we need him up forward as has been mentioned, agree that douglas could use the time down back to develop his game a bit. Would also love to see Mcleod in the middle again, cant understand why he doesnt get a run in there anymore, dont tell me he smokes too :). If that is true about stiffy thats almost as shocking as sheeds getting sacked

i just think that with his freakish ability in traffic 10 minutes in the midfield could prove match winning on occasions. think Judd like centre breaks to set up the leading forward!!

I actually dont think Stiffy would be as good in the midfield as some suggest. I think he's a straight line player - loves the ball coming to him where he can see it coming, attack it, then evade. Either forward or back. I think he might get lost in traffic in the midfield.

ala Brett Ebert?

BTW, who watched the Footy Show, and saw that kid refuse to say Johncock's name?

Was very funny stuff
