Maybe the FFA are pushing the merger and Phoenix would rather crumble than lose their identity??

We've bet all our chips on an independent A-League, so I would say this is closest to the case, and the FFA don't like it. A very "* the FFA" way of going about things, for sure, but the clubs' owners are behind us all the way so we have the support there.

I think the idea would be an initial merger then gradually the nix will dissolve in to South SydneyFC over time. If you read the article its already mention shirt and color changes.

Even though the FFA supposedley have nothing to do with it, it would be a win win for them.

1) No having to kick the Nix out and in so doing admit they fukt up.

2) Another team in Sydney.

All their Christmases coming at once.

Media outlets have reported all manner of approaches to and outcomes for the Phoenix. Some of the approaches are real but the majority are imagined.

With reportedly interest from ten groups for two expansion teams, there is plenty of scope for speculation.

As the club has previously disclosed, the Phoenix have had discussions with parties interested in participating in the expansion of the A League, as well as the future of the A League and it should come as no surprise that continues to be the case.

Welnix as the owners have consistently maintained that they are open to external investors who could bring capital and players to the club as well as providing professional development pathways for the players from New Zealand.

Although there are currently potential options that are worth exploring what is certain, despite the leaky nature of the industry, is the Phoenix will not conduct any of those discussions via the media.

The speculation is hugely disappointing and clearly upsetting for fans and sponsors but unfortunately the club cannot control it.

We can reiterate however, as stated by the Chairman, Rob Morrison recently, that the club is not looking to sell its licence

Of more immediate concern to the club is the state of the A League.

With double digit falls in viewership levels, falling crowd numbers and all clubs losing money there has to be a material change to the construct of the League.

The best case scenario for the A League clubs, including the Phoenix, is the creation of a truly independent A League with new management and a distribution of revenues that reflect the way they are generated.

The needed structural changes will not happen in the short term but it is clearly imperative that decisive action is taken now by the FFA ahead of the 18/19 season to halt the decline in the Leagues metrics. Tinkering around the edges with marquee funds and the like is not sufficient.

For the Phoenix the club is focused on the off season, with the club's fourth appearance in the annual Hong Kong Soccer Sevens next weekend against clubs like West Ham and Kashima Antlers, as well as its annual Sister City Cup match against Beijing BG in China's capital in July.

The club continues its active search for a new Head Coach with a decision expected soon.

4 of the Yellow Fever head honchos met up for dinner with our CEO Rob Morrison.

This is the run down of that conversation.

Basically we're not selling, SWS didn't approach us for our licence, and no one lied about a meeting taking place. Just no one clarified that it wasn't to do with a 15mil bid

Also, from the accompanying podcast that went with it, it appears Gallop and O'Rourke are quite supportive of the Nix, after what these 4 YF members were saying. It's Lowy that's the problem, and even more so Fox Sports, as NZ are with Sky, of course.

Mmmm Rudan is from Sydney The Nix where rumoured to merge with a new Sydney club. All makes sense now. ;)

Good to see another Aussie getting a gig! Rudan has been waiting in the wings for a while all reports indicate he’s been ready only waiting for the right opportunity. No better opportunity then the Nix where the only way is up :D
I wish him well for the Nix sake despite being a Sydney scum.
