After reading through the changes for Richmond thread and wondering who to drop to make way for Col Sylvia I started to wonder what our team still has to add and were we will fit these players when they are all ready to play.

This is a approximate list of Melbourne players that did not play in our rd 3 victory over the crows. We have some depth.

Jared Rivers
Neville Jetta

Daniel Bell
James Strauss
Kyle Cheney
Tom McNamara
Stefan Martin
Cale Morton
Sam Blease
Jordan Gysberts
Colin Sylvia
Rhys Healey
Luke Tapscott
Max Gawn
Paul Johnson
Austin Wonaeamirri
Liam Jurrah

Jack Fiztpatrick
Addam Maric
Brad Miller
Jack Watts
Daniel Hughes
John Messen
Jake Spencer

Here it as a team view for fun. I am aware some of these position may not be 100% but meh, just pretend its the team list from the HS

Good post, loving the depth there.

Except the interchange bench. Spud central, get rid of it. Just play with 18 lol.

Dcrock, I feel we should talk up our interchange bench in hope they become future 'stars' as the gold coast.

Also every year we do have to make a few changes to our list I suppose. Why not start there.

Good post.

All the injuries we've had will actually work in our favour in the long run with depth. We've had to improvise with the forward line and make changes we may not have made if everyone was fit. Bennell for instance may have not gone forward if Wona and others were fit, but IMO Bennell was Wona beat.

Established players:
Sylvia, Jurrah, Morton, Rivers
Frawley, McDonald, Bruce, Moloney, Green, Davey, Jones, Grimes, MacDonald, Bate, Garland, Warnock, Petterd, Jamar

Largely untapped young talent:
Watts, Strauss, Blease, Jetta, Gysberts, Tapscott, Fitzpatrick, Gawn
Scully, Trengove, McKenzie, Bennell

Those who might make it:
Cheney, McNamara, Maric, Wonaeamirri, Martin, Spencer
Bartram, Bail, Dunn

Those in need of a miracle:
Daniel Bell, Rhys Healey, Paul Johnson, Brad Miller, Daniel Hughes, John Meesen(inj)
Newton

Our current line up of depth is quite decent. We're playing without 4 guys who are comfortable AFL footballers. That said its only because we are playing well that it looks good. As soon as our established players drop off the heat probably goes on our lesser players. That said the kids and those lesser players are doing a very good job at the moment.

The other thing is our key forward and ruck depth continues to be tested. We are currently playing only 1 key forward who backs up rucks in Newton. Realistically to win big games we probably need a back up ruckman and at least 1 big forward (and probably not Newton). I sadly think the best chance we have of finding these guys is in the untapped young players list with Watts obviously, and then Fitzy and Gawn. Spencer and Martin have their chance whilst they are fit and in form at Casey at the moment.

Jurrah should not be at Full Foward! I know this line up is imaginary. But when he's fit i hope he doesnt line up at FF. Thats greenys job for when the Jurrahcane returns.

There is a few players out of thier ideal position but as mentioned its just a rough reference of were he may play or play close to.

Dont look to much into the specific positions I have slotted the players in, more or less sit back and admire the possibilities.

Yes, we have depth. But most of it are mildfielders and backmen, not much forward depth to work with that's my only concern. Just thought maybe we should have picked up a taller forward with pick 11 or 18.
In saying that i can see what game style dean bailey is heading towards and can see why he wants plenty of midfielders.
Not sure if it will work, similar to carltons except we have watts not sure if it counts for much atm. However we both have plenty of midfielders and i would say our defence atm is a little bit better but will definetely improve more.

^^ Exactly right. Be ready for (lets hope only) a few to not cut the mustard, I think that's natural. Turnover of players will be interesting in the next few years. How will it be affected by the compromised drafts? Cut more dead wood and take punts with high picks?

On a side note, I hope we get another player or two through the rookie list - Gems that can round out a list (Clint Jones).

I thought this was a pretty fair post.

With only a hand full of draft picks likely to be taken in the next 2 drafts, I would suggest we will be delisting or retiring a selection of about 8 out of the 10 bolded players in the next 2 years.

Our depth will really start to show after that time - our good young players will have to play for Casey not the senior side.
