I was wondering if anyone know's the song that was played on the radio in the kitchen in The Wedding Singer? All I know is that it's an 80s song (around 1984 or 1985?) and it was by a Japanese band. I would also like to know the name of the band that sings the song. I have heard it a few times on the radio down here, but they have never said the name of the band, well that I remember anyway.

I dont have the DVD to look it up but here are the songs on the movie's two soundtracks, perhaps it is one of these but none appear to be Japanese.

1. Video Killed the Radio Star - Presidents of the United States of America
2. Do You Really Want to Hurt Me - Culture Club
3. Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic - The Police
4. How Soon Is Now? - The Smiths
5. Love My Way - The Psychedelic Furs
6. Hold Me Now - Thompson Twins
7. Everyday I Write the Book - Elvis Costello
8. White Wedding - Billy Idol
9. China Girl - David Bowie
10. Blue Monday - New Order
11. Pass the Dutchie - Musical Youth
12. Have You Written Anything Lately?
13. Somebody Kill Me - Adam Sandler
14. Rapper's Delight [Medley] - Ellen Albertini Dow

Volume 2

Too Shy - Kajagoogoo
2. It's All I Can Do - The Cars
3. True - Spandau Ballet
4. Space Age Love Song - A Flock of Seagulls
5. Private Idaho - The B-52's
6. Money (That's What I Want) - The Flying Lizards
7. You Spin Me 'Round (Like a Record) - Dead or Alive
8. Just Can't Get Enough - Depeche Mode
9. Love Stinks - J. Geils Band
10. You Make My Dreams - Hall & Oates
11. Holiday - Madonna
12. Grow Old With You - Adam Sandler

The biggest "pop" hit from Japan in the 1980's was Sticky Music by Sandii and The Sunsetz.

Not sure about whether thats the song you refer to though.

What a soundtrack. Well if you take out Adam Sandler and rapping old ladies.
Agreed. I'm not a huge fan of 80s music but my sister has the soundtracks and it's quite a good collection!

You don't mean 99 Luft (Red) Balloons do you?
It's not Japenese though its German. Its in the scene just before Drew Barrymore gets proposed to.

I think that might it, I only said Japanese, because the idiot on the radio made mention to the band being from there, I had a feeling that I had the wrong country. Thanks, for all the info. Now I just need to track it down.

The artist is Nena I think (it might be nina but pronounced nena) there are both german and english versions of the song by that group. I prefer the german one - sounds better

It wasn't from Japan but there was a song called "Japanese Boy" by Aneka. She was a Scottish opera singer who wanted to go pop so she got the song written for her, had a hit and went back to the classics.

Probably nothing to do with the movie - but there you go anyway.

These types of threads are becoming more common. Maybe we should start 1 thread for all these questions? :)
(whats the name of the song from - movie, tv show, advert, goes like '... etc.

I probably should of posted this over at "Media & Entertainment" board, but I thought seeing as it was music, I'd post it here.

Theres a song called "Turning Japanese" by the Vapours that's very 80s. Not in the movie though, I don't think.

No, it wasn't, but it was in "Beverly Hills Ninja" though.
