There has been a whisper going around, that Sydney is helping Ben Cousin's with his rehab and that he will be with the swans in '09'.
Has anyone else heard this??

All I'll say is welcome Ben..!!!

It will never happen. Though it would be interesting to see if even the Swans culture is strong enough to put Ben Cousins back on the straight and narrow.

I wish people would just talk normally instead of whispering all the time. No wonder so many rumours get blown out of proportion!

All I would say is B### S### and F### O##.
He's not worth the effort or the trouble. The big smoke is not exactly a perfect place for people with drug problems to sort themselves out either.

We have invested heavily in the last few years in small/mediums so we need to make these investments work, so I wouldn't waste a spot in the senior team for an ageing player like Cousins (or Travis Johnstone).

whisper whisper....you guys need younger recruits, not older ones...cuz is short term value, and that only depends if your mob would be succesful in getting him off the gear. you succeeded with plugger and hall, but they had temper issues, not drug issues.

How old is cousins? 28 29? so the same age as hall, and how many years do you think hall has got left in him?

So going off the last couple of post, we wouldn't want him because he has an addiction. Would you recruit a gambler??

I agree with this poster. I don't normally agree with the enemy but this post is spot on!

We need much younger recruits not Ben Cousins, if he is recruited to the club, I'll seriously consider not renewing my membership.

I repeat, we need younger recruits not a drugged up, has been!!! I don't care how good he has been in the past, he'll never be that good again in my personal opinion.

I hope it's only a rumour and nothing more.

Cousins is 29, so he's a year younger than Hall. Hall is contracted till the end of 09 and he has pretty much said that he won't go on after that, he doesn't want to be playing on after he's past it. Obviously Cousins could play a few more years but why would we bother? Realistically (even this is a bit unrealistic) this year is our last shot at the premiership for a few years. So in 09 why would we bother with a recovering (or not) drug addict in years that we need to be playing younger guys who can build a team to win a premiership in a few years time.

Counsins will be 31 in 2009 (born 30 June 1978), and you will be doing great if you can get 2, 3 years out of him. By 2009, you would also hope that the likes of Versprimi, Meredith and O'Keefe will be ready for senior football, throw in the likes of Moore, Jack, Bird etc and I really don't see why we need to waste a spot for Cousins (especially since most of the better midfielders we have right now would be hitting that 30 mark by then). I will consider us very lucky if we can get another 3 years of injury-free, productive years from Hall.

And no, I will not recruit a player whose gambling habit is bad enough to warrant a stint in rehab.

Someone said it, Sydney has alot better and more drugs than Perth does..

So simply, no.. All the best mate but not here.

We already have. Kieren Jack has been known to chuck $5 dollars on the outcome of an AFL match :D.

ben is a dick...met him a couple of times and hes not so cool
i think he would do more bad for the club than good...and besides i read that roosy denied any interest in him, which i was VERY glad for!

There is absolutely NO CHANCE of Cousins EVER playing at Sydney let alone anyone within the club even speaking to him.
Save your time and forget this stupid post!!!!

Haha, this is a joke. We'd have to really stretch our "no ********s" culture to the very limit to let Cousins in anyway. He's ageing and time to invest on younger and cleaner players.

If Cousins has chosen to do some rehab in Sydney, I have absolutely no problem with the Swans helping him out. They understand something about elite sportsmen, have a well respected welfare team, and can possibly provide him with a small part of the support structure a recovering addict undoubtedly needs.

I'd be amazed if they were helping him out financially with his rehab, and I'd be equally surprised if they'd made even a tentative link to him playing with the Swans next season. For a start, he has some way to go before the AFL will consider letting him back in. Furthermore, even if he is ready in a year, the complications around recruiting mean that no club will committ much knowing they are no guarantee to secure his services.

Is he right for the club, playing wise? Great player, but the age profile of the list suggests not. On the other hand, if everything goes well for the Swans this season - Hall stays fit and returns to his 2005/6 form, Goodes has another blinder, the rest do their bit and the Swan win a premiership, I'd have no problem in theory with them rolling the dice on a back-to-back with the addition of one of the best midfielders of our generation.

But there's a long long long way to go yet.

There's always talk of disgruntled big names coming to the Swans. But you never know. Personally I would say no to him coming. But it's not my decision.

All are either crap or unproven

I would trade any of them for 2-3 years from Cousins.
