Toast A Swift Return

Really, really rated his first half.

Just needs game time to build match fitness. When he gets this his disposal late in the game will improve.
agreed, no issues with disposal in first half. yes last quarter butchered a few but it was a grubby quarter for everyone. did enough to hold his place. looks better than masten in that outside & HFF role. presents alot more than masten and always was in space to present an option outside stoppages.

loved his first half in particular.

swifty is a player of high quality. i really hope he continues on with this good form, he's worked hard and now he has a chance to cement his spot.

It expectations like these that will make Swift a perennial disappointment.

At least wait until he plays unarguably well for a few weeks before you say stuff like that.
Agreed.

Will have his ups and downs.

Some players can develop ok in the seconds and impact straight away, some like Smith and Swift have some great qualities but need consistent game time at AFL level to hit their stride.

One reason why I think opinions on Swift are so polarised.

Give him game time though and I think we will reap dividends. His outside game has improved though at Claremont which is a win but certainly his best work is still done around the contest.

Creative, good disposal by hand, smooth mover around congestion and takes time to pick the right option.

The last may get him into trouble but as his awareness improves should become a great asset.

agree, will take him til at least mid 2013 to be our best mid

Hope they stick with him, give him some more games. I can see him improving with every game and doing some damage. Masten on the other hand - Goodbye.

Thought he had a good showing today.

I've said it before: The guy does his best work in close. He is an inside midfielder. Behind Kerr, he is our most creative option in that position.

Making good progress and hope to see further signs of development.

I have said it since it for weeks before he played his first game vs GC this year. Not just because he has played a game and a half of solid footy.

I don't think it matters how long you've been saying it, to be honest.

Still, if in your eyes he's done enough to be branded as our best mid by the end of next year, fair enough. I just think it's praise far too glowing for what he's produced.

Just the same as all the people who raved on / are raving on about Shuey.

Must be a pretty frustrating guy to have on your team. Every time I saw him disposal of it by foot it was a straight turn over or at least put your team under pressure.

Not really, turned the ball over going inside 50 trying to hit targets.

Likes to use his left as much as his right. Has all the attributes to be elite we just need to be persisted with him, his work early on was excellent. Was clearly our best player in the first for mine.

I don't know where to find clangers/efficiency but from what I saw of him seemed to turn over every kick (not sure why trying to hit targets inside 50 is "not really" a disposal by foot). Anyway, was just an honest observation.
Shannon Hurn is second in our list for clangers for the year.

65% disposal efficiency, pretty much the average of a whole bunch of our list.

Not claiming he is the smoothest user, but like Waters, Smith, his errors are often blown out of proportion when his good kicks are shoed away.

1st half he was great. Last quarter he missed a few in a row. Musta been buggered though.

Agreed, he had poise early and looked spent late. He didn't try to do too much and looked altogether more comfortable with the pace and pressure. Another preseason and we may have a contender. He has moved well past masten.

His first half was bloody sensational, especially the first quarter. So many contested handballs to advantage... good lord it was pr0n. If he does this week in week out for full games, we have a player.
