Re: A very difficult desicion!

Gotta go poppy. He has just been sensational (not that Smith hasn't). Can definitely see him as a future AA BP or FP. Imagine poppy and Rioli in the forward line. Just dribble it in there and we score 9 times out of 10.

Imagine :

HF: Rioli - Roughead - Smith
FF: Puopolo - Franklin - Burgoyne

Re: A very difficult desicion!

Puopolo. Came in as a similar player to C.Brown but imo is better. Can run faster, tackle just as good as browny and has the heart and desire as Brown did. Also he doesn't get a loose head and do stupid things like Brown used to do so definitely Puopolo. smith too has had a great year but as others have said he hasn't been as consistent as Puopolo and have dominant performances like Puopolo has had.

Re: A very difficult desicion!

Smith is great and has had played some brilliant footy, and is going to be a star. But Poppy IMO has been more... just more.
Though I may be biased. I absolutely love watching the dude play, he throws himself at everything full blast.

Re: A very difficult desicion!

Both have added PACE.
Puopolo is ahead by a whisker in my estimations, however, we still have two more games to play this year;) and both these blokes are capable of great things still. We might need to wait until after the GF before we make the call!

got some great memories of both players during this year...

Smith after he has kicked goals on the run, and then arms out wide, like he is about to fly...on such a high

and of course

Pop, with his never say die run-down and tackles of opposition players, as well as the "go when its your turn" actually "go when its someone elses turn" as well...

I wouldn't argue with either getting the award, but on having to make a choice would go with pop...

Mine goes to Poppy.... Just. He has really stood up "tall" in some of our poorer games which shows that he is a great team player and never gives up.

Smith for me (albeit from an outsider) by the skin of his teeth. I feel he has just had that X factor about him this year at crucial stages with important goals and being able to break the lines. Was really good against GC (R.13) where I was really impressed by his speed, then along with the rest of this mates, tore Essendon a new one the following week.

In saying that, Puopolo has probably been the most consistent, and I was surprised by his flare when he took a big mark against Brisbane (R.16) in a rather dreary game. His pressure at games I've seen live has been first rate, too. You can tell he's got a big heart, and the desire to play at this level.

Bruest was also impressive.

You just keep on breeding them down at Hawk land!

Right now Puopolo gets the nod. He's just that bit more mature and likely to give four quarters effort. Smith's the Rising Star and the sky's the limit. Hasn't fully matured yet, especially body wise, but has all the traits of star. He's the one that could keep us on our feet over the next 10 years!

LOL. I must admit, when we drafted Pop I was wondering how long it would be before he whacked somebody; he just looked the type. Good to see he's not that sort of hardnut.

On a side issue, I think one positive of the Suns and GWS inclusions in the league is the unearthing of guys like Puopolo. It's forced teams to look harder for these diamonds in the rough.

Good point. Considering the compromised draft (and the next).....to have unearthed a couple of gems is a real bonus. When the GCS and GWS sides arrive (and they will) it will be nice to see a couple of Hawks picked in the same draft keeping them honest. ;) (Them along with a couple of hulking New Zealanders all going well)

I am going with Smith to win by the way. I think the club will try everything to encourage him to do great things. He could become a gun imo.

Re: A very difficult desicion!

My vote goes to Smith....just.

Poppy more consistant but Smith has more of an impact on the game - He is a finals player!!

The Poo is so versatile.

Sprinting down the wing, he is "Runny Poo" and when he lays a tackle, he is "Sticky Poo". But take the whole year into account and he has been "Solid Poo".

Poo for mine.

Thats pretty bloody funny, I can't stop laughing either!!

My vote goes to Poo - I've loved the work of both guys this year but agree with other posters that 'Poo' has been more consistent, some of his rundowns this year have been brilliant to watch - and i'm not trying to hate on our backs, but after only 20+ games i already have more confidence in Poo than some of our more experienced defenders!

If GCS wanted to trade C.Brown for P.Puopolo - I'd be suggesting they throw in Swallow or Bennell before we even consider it ;)
