Mayne kicked 39 goals in 2012, 37 2013, and Black has best of 33? Injury interrupted season for Mayne
but at his best, worth a first round pick? Can also play defence, tackling machine, second rounder and
Suban, and you would still have trouble sitting down.
What was injury interrupted about Mayne's season this year?

Mayne had a back injury which interrupted his preseason and injured his ankle pretty badly in round 3 against the Hawks. It looked like that injury restricted his output until at least round 12, but even then he seemed unable to hit the scoreboard regularly.

Having a fit and healthy Mayne next year will provide a massive boost to our forward line.

I think the comparison for Black would be Jack Darling, both very similar in build and their play. He won't completely solve the Key Forward issues but he would definitely help. I am a fan of Black but he won't come cheap, couple of other options would be if Geelong sign Mitch Clark as expected I would be knocking on Shane Kersten's door. Surely he wouldn't want the possibility of being further down the pecking order. And the other one is John Butcher from Port, who would be cheaper than Black, only played the 23 games in 5 seasons.

I think we just get games into Taberner and Apeness for our forward line and the likes of Smith, Alex Pearce in our backline.

We ain't far off and had a few injuries towards the end of the season.

We have reasonable midfield depth, but another step up in consistency or games from Crozier, Sherdan, Neale, Morabito and we are a very healthy side with depth to 28+ players.

If we can't get class I don't think we need the likes of Kersten when we have Taberner and Apeness. Much of a muchness for mine. Plus Kersten hates the Dockers.

Massive no to Butcher also.

This gets repeated ad nauseum and as fact. Truth is, there is no verifiable source for the assertion.
Why would you hate Fremantle? It's not like they are the Eagles. Or Essendon. Or Geelong.....

if we are the only way he is going to play AFL, that hate is going to turn to love very quickly

Someone posted his height being only 192cm, do not want.
I merely pointed out that Pav is 192cm, obviously not in the same hemisphere though, although some would give up our first rounder AND a handy player.

Crazy talk which always happens this time of the year, reminds me of the Schwabboly days

Good times, good times

With Apeness and Taberner being giants, 192cm is perfect for an additional KPF imo, especially if they are mobile, can mark, and have a defensive mindset. I am not saying I don't want Black, but his height wouldn't be a concern for me.

agreed but at the right price.

1st rounder plus a Crozier or Clancee is idiotic.

It wasn't interrupted. That's the whole problem; It should have been.
Look at his game against Sydney at the SCG. A ****ing joke that he was playing in that game and IIRC that was the game we dropped Josh Simpson to emergency for.

One year ago Black was considered one of the best young forwards in competition. He kicked the vast majority of the 33 goals he kicked in the second half of the year, where he demonstrated the ability to take a really strong contested grab, as well as elite leading pace. Some commentators were referring to him as a future Coleman Medalist. In 2014 he couldnt push of his man due to shoulder issues. North didnt send him for an operation because they wanted him to play a leading forward role to compliment Petrie's marking. He is contracted, so anyone thinking a player who has shown his promise wouldnt demand at least Crozier and a first pick to make the trade happen in reality is trulely clueless. For the record North would almost certainly knock back an offer of Crozier and first pick. I dont see why some people like coming to this thread raising trades that have as much chance of happening as Gillard and Rudd becoming best friends.

Dafuq. I'm all for being realistic in trade treads, but this is sheer stupidity. If we were stupid enough to even offer Crozier and a first round pick, North would be even more stupid refusing it. Even straight swap would be iffy and that is considering KPP extra value.

He's not saying we should offer that, he's saying that's the price that North would be looking at - with reference to people who are saying it would take our second. If Taberner kicks 33 goals next year and starts taking good 1:1 grabs, what price would we demand for him? I agree with sherrif, that would be cost of a contracted player of Black's age, position and potential.

I think that is exactly what he said but I was referring to the "North would almost certainly knock back the offer of Crozier and first rounder" anyway. That is friggin madness. He kicked 33 goals yada yada yada, he's no Coleman medalist ffs. North would be all over that. Don't take what their supporters say as gospel.
If Tabs kicks 33 goals next year do you really think that we could command pick 12 and a good youngster from GWS for him?

What he said was

anyone thinking a player who has shown his promise wouldnt demand at least Crozier and a first pick to make the trade happen in reality is trulely clueless.

A fair few people on this board remember the bad old days, when we used to sell the farm for a chance at instant gratification. Well, we all know how that worked out, and I would like to think we have learnt from those mistakes and now are far more conservative when trading.

I don't necessarily see that as being ' truly clueless ' either.

What he said was

Yeah. Which was exactly what I pointed out. Did you miss this part?

I dont see why some people like coming to this thread raising trades that have as much chance of happening as Gillard and Rudd becoming best friends.

You're arguing a different point. Sherrif's post isn't advocating that trade, just pointing out a realistic cost.

No I don't, not quite that much, because tabs wasn't a highly touted youngster - former high picks tend to command more early on in their career. A young KPF with that kind of season behind him though? Yeah, unless he specifically asks for a trade to us, I think you're looking at 1st + up and coming player.

At Taberner's age, Black had actually produced less. You can take Black's 2013 and say it was a good year ... but that is like the equivalent of Taberner's 2016. I don't think Taberner is going to be a star, but I think there is a good chance he ends up better than Black (whom I must be one of the few to think is overrated).

I know we don't want to keep waiting forever, and we want someone to produce in 2015 ... but I don't think Black would be much of an improvement on what we've got (short or long term). It's easy to remember Taberner's horror finals, but if we can get him back to the last few rounds of the season (plus natural improvement curve) ... I reckon he'd offer just as much as Black would in 2015.

He kicked 17 goals (over half) in his first 7 games and average 0.7 contested marks for the 2013 season.
