Ballenden is obviously a massive Jet. We need to get ourselves a gun midfielder with our 1st pick this year, an out and out absolute Jet! We will have pick 1 or 2 so it will be interesting.

Think Essendon and likely Fremantle will finish below us, so likely pick 3. Bowes and Macreadie may get bid on early, so nominally it might become pick 5.

Honestly, take all the academy kids out of the equation. They'll get bid on and the academy clubs will match the bids as long the kid is bid on at a reasonable spot and the team has enough points. If we're selecting in the top 3 and we don't have one of our own academy kids rated that high, currently the three non academy players projected at the top are SPS, Brodie and McCluggage. Each is a different type of midfielder, maybe not the type we really need, but at this stage there are no contested ball bulls projected in this draft.

It's early yet, but if Rolls keeps performing, I have a feeling we'll be walking away from this years draft with a young midfielder and three academy players.

Just to be clear, even if we think Allison is the 3rd best player in the draft, we'd never draft him there. We'd wait for another team to bid on him at 4, or 5, or 6, and then pay points equal to 20% less than that. Effectively, if he's bid on at pick 4, we only have to come up with the points for pick 7, so there's no way we'd pay pick 3 for him. Two gun mids for the price of... well, one and a half... but two gun mids in a draft!

I still think Freo will pass us. They'll beat us when we play them. The way we're going I'm not confident of beating Essendon either.

Yup I understand all that, but there is still most of the season to go, so we don't where these kids are going to be ranked by the end of the season. I don't believe Allison will be a top 10 selection. But if his game clicks in the Div 1 champs, he could see his stock rise much like Oliver's did last season. My comment was more about if one of the other teams above us in the draft bid on one of our academy kids. I would never use a live draft pick on an academy player.

Yeah, hard to imagine Freo won't win at least 4 or 5 games and I can't see us matching it. Will be between us and Essendon for the spoon.

Wouldn't rule out Carlton regaining it's poor form of last year. Hard to see us catching up to them though.

I was forgetting Carltank.

Cool bananas. Absolutely agree - would love him to shoot up the rankings like that...

Interesting that a player who was rated lower (than all our academy selections) is debuting in a team that is rated higher (than us) at the same time as our no.1 academy pick.

If Hipwood played for North he wouldn't be seeing game time until 2018

two completely different players given one is a tall and one is a small
I thought of three or four responses to that, all of which would probably have made me sound like an ass. So I'll leave it at "I think I get the distinction".

I think it's got more to do with the players next in line. We've got lots of developing talls, whereas North have been crippled by injuries to medium sized players in the past couple of weeks forcing them to play Wagner, who if you look at his brother, should fit in well at AFL level.

3 academy kids worth watching at the 16s national championships tomorrow- Darcy Marsh (luke power like) Adam Peak (general) and Keidean Coleman absolute weapon (brother of Brian Coleman-Broome). Good luck lads!
