He is a good looking rooster no doubt and a good player. Was there a QLD MVP announced? On "eye-catchers" they said Steele won the Rams MVP but no mention of QLD.

More of a forward, only played the mids in stints throughout the champs
I didn't record his time spent in the midfield v NT but he was to my eye the outstanding player on the ground and won plenty of contested ball. Extracts it with one touch when others are fumbling around him. He is not fast but quick enough and a perfect physique for the midfield.

Keays and all under agers terrific after not being rated before champs

Ben Keayes awarded MVP for Qld.

Keays was rated pretty high before the champs.

Just not so much by you irc BP?

Keays was definitely deserving clearly being the most consistent player across all 3 games. Pretty good effort for underager. His tournament was probably the equal of Heeney. For Qld Hammlemann was probably next best followed by Weller.

A pity Dawson was injured at the sort of game 2 because as I was looking forward to watching him play that day and again in game 3. I'm sure he would have been in the top 3-4 players had he played all 3 games.

Knightmare really rates Keays and thinks he's a first round prospect next year. I'm interested to where people think he'd rate this year if he was eligible.

Dammit hes supposed to be hiding! :p
I get your drift but chances are we won't have to give overs for him. They are saying first round next year and even assuming that is correct, likely we will finish bottom half of the table and it's hard at this stage to see any club bidding pick 1 to 8 for him, in which case we are looking at a second round pick or lower, assuming we want him.

As well as Keays played in the championships I think it's a bit rich to say first round talent. If he was an underager playing for either Vic teams or SA then I would understand. These state teams will have a number of first round talent who didn't make this years squad especially Metro I would assume. However I liked what I saw and hope the utmost best for him........and us.

Ben Keays named on the bench in the u-18 AA team! Only QLD player to make the cut.

Nah but he's definitely changed my opinion on him. First time in my life I saw him win his own ball and tackle instead of finishing off everyone else's hard work.

True, but this is also comparing him to how Weller and Dawson performed last year and their subsequent placings this year, which has seen Weller touted as a 5-15 pick all year and Dawson falling in that late first early second category. Top 10 is probably a stretch for Keays but anywhere in the first round, at this stage, is plausible. But alot of water to go under the bridge yet. Remember Conway...

Cautious of putting too much hope in the underaged guys.

We've got some sort of glass ceiling in Qld, when it comes to turning promising 16/17 yos into draftees.

I know I haven't been the biggest fan of keays but tbh his underager year has so far been better than Weller, Dawson, Conway etc.

You reckon they might over train our underage blokes as they move into their draft year after? I also am not sure how beneficial it is for a young player to not be allowed to go back and be part of a club for the rest of the season. I do think we have more of a chance of getting this right under Piggy Fletcher!

Had a look at the QLD 16s today vs Tasmania at Broadbeach. Very impressive with an 80+ point flogging (from memory) although a long time away before we start looking at draft targets there is already a lot to look forward to very promising group.

Jacob Allison played through the midfield and forward line. 192cm, quick and agile and has a booming leg. Very skinny only in the mid 70kg area but a lot to work with.
Reminds me of Marco Paparone but could easily be turned into a David Mundy like on-baller as he showed ability to win contested ball.

Eric Hipwood is a 17 year old having a second crack at 16s, playing at full forward. Very athletic and tall, again on the skinny side but kicked a bag of goals. Is 198cm but works on the ground and in the air. Dropped a few easy marks but very competitive and laid atleast 6 solid tackles.

Jack Rolls played on the wing and racked up 20-25 clean possessions. He has elite endurance and tackled really well. A bit of Matt Rosa about him. Went off with an injury in the last Q and no doubt could have ended up in the 30+ region had he have continued.

Declan Watson at fullback wasn't given much opportunity to strut his stuff but the tall KPD has extraordinary closing speed and defends aggressively, very similar player to Nick Jackson.

Notable performances were Dom Paino, a ruckman who is very good at ground level (possibly Lions academy -unsure) and Brad Sheer (GC academy) in-and-under Tom Libatore-like midfielder, 185cm and strongly built.
Long time to go before we start looking at who to pick but seems like a very good crop coming through. Heights are from memory as I misplaced the program booklet from today

You jump on that bandwagon sunshine haha

What? I am stating a fact that Keays was rated as our number academy 1 prospect by the majority of people that follow QLD footy? Doesn't mean I agree with it or said it. Just because I am not a big fan doesn't mean others aren't.
