Is Scott Clarke an academy boy?

No:

Bourke paves the way:

When Jordon Bourke’s name was read out by the Brisbane Lions during Tuesday’s AFL Rookie Draft, it proved a significant announcement in more ways than one.

Not only was Bourke set to follow in his father Damian’s footsteps by representing Brisbane’s AFL team, but he also became the first ever player drafted to the Club via the Hyundai Lions Academy.

The Lions Academy program was introduced in 2009 to help the Club develop aspiring young AFL players (between the ages of 12 and 18) in their own backyard.

Budding basketball prodigy Archie Smith – the son of former Brisbane Bullets NBL All-Star Andre Moore – is the latest athlete to join the Hyundai Brisbane Lions Academy after being identified through the Rookie Search program.

Although a number of US Colleges have already expressed interest in signing Smith to a basketball scholarship, the talented 17 year-old is seriously contemplating a potential AFL career.

Smith’s supreme athleticism first caught the eye of Academy scouts during the U18 State Basketball Classics last year, and the Club acted quickly to provide him with a possible alternate pathway.

He has since started training with the oval ball as part of the Lions Academy’s U18 summer program, and will soon feature in two matches against the Gold Coast Academy in a bid to earn selection in Queensland’s State U18 squad.

“I’ve been mainly following Nic Naitanui, and see myself as being a similar type of player. I really enjoy the high-flying aspects of the game.”

Interesting. I remember watching his Dad go around at Boondall all those years ago.

Ahhh the glory days of youth! I remember those days too, little Bullets autograph books signed by the players. :thumbsu:

Just watched his vid on the website. Dunks looked great however it was his ability to cut and drie through players with ease which caught my eye and also the tap in. Obviously it is only just a spot on the academy but I'm quite excited. Quite jack of seeing other clubs identify players in our own backyard.

Hopefully we will make something of the young fella. Looking forward to hear how he progresses.

Interesting. I remember watching his Dad go around at Boondall all those years ago. Wonder how tall he is...

I once played a pick up game of basketball against Andre Moore. He is enormous. Not just tall but solid too. Not exactly the best mover going around but was OK for his height.

The "son of" might be an interesting proposition.

What height do you reckon he is? It is a little hard to judge off the film. I am thinking about 195.
That'd be my guess based off seeing him today. Looked taller than Tickner, though I was a ways off so angles may have been deceptive.

My little brother is fairly into his basketball and knows of him and said he was over 6'4 as of the middle of last year. By my calculations that makes him 193cm, at least.

Excellent news ;)
Lions Academy playing Gold Coast Academy in 2 games, Sat March 16th and 23rd.
From these games the Queensland Scorpions squad will be selected for this year's NAB National Under 18s Championships.
Not sure of the venue/s, but might be worth a look to see how the summer has treated Tickner, Conway, Rutledge, Gribble etc

There is a rumour of them playing this Saturday morning at Yeronga against Mt Gravatt. In a big day of practice matches at The Y.
