Commission has reportedly rejected the new bidding rule proposal (for now at least) and want to see more information before they reconsider.

A welcome development. Bring on Keays with a straight up second round pick.

The long term outlook is the only sensible one for the AFL to take on the Academies if they are serious about boosting the game at grass roots and Senior levels QLD and NSW in future...despite the big wins that the Swans are currently getting out of their Academy.

For time being they are really needed to get hte numbers in QLD and NSW up, but long term I do see the naysayers point. They can provide more inequality in the system. Once there is a better pathway for juniors up there and the numbers are evening up it should be taken away from us

Agreed, that means we can keep our academy for another 50 years or so....

how good is this, 3 under 15s making all australian squad and all part of the Lions academy, good times ahead
Actually there were 6 QLD boys named in the All Australian team from the u15 nationals. Bayden Goff and Tom Fullarton from the Sunshine Coast making it 5 Lions Academy boys in the team and Brayden Crossley from the Gold Coast Academy. They were in the Grand Final against the Big V and only went down by a goal. The first ever QLD team to make the final and was a combined country/metro Vic team.

thanks for that knowledge mate, looks like the academies are doing some good

If 6 out of 22 all Australians were from QLD last year then you would have to think the academies are further along in their development. These kids were about the third crop of boys to start through from age 12. At what point do qld numbers in the Afl become enough to drop the academies?

From my very minimal knowledge on this topic I believe I read somewhere that Qld is quite competitive at the lower teens years of championships and then we fall away quite dramatically, I could be wrong though. Hopefully with the academies this won't happen.

When the evidence suggests that local kids are choosing AFL ahead of other codes. That after all is the main game. That is some way off. If you have followed the Academy boys as it seems you have, you will also understand that what happens at under age levels doesn't always translate into AFL quality footballers, particularly in developing football markets. The evolution will take time and patience and the AFL will need to have the balls to resist the rantings of Eddie and others who have only their own club's interests at heart.

Qld went down 85-84 to Gippsland today. Just had a read of the blog on the AFLQ website. Sounds like a cracker of a game. Qld's slow start probably cost them with them being down by 20 at quarter time.

Sounds like Allison showed some real class out there and Buzza had a really nice period in the second and third. Keays got a few mentions as did Chol who was playing up forward. Hipwood playing in defence today. Looking forward to a match report.

Could Buzza be our Ben Brown?

In terms of hair or playing ability? They look like identical twins.

Queensland
Goal Kickers: J. Brown 4, W. Buzza 2, J. Allison 2, M. Chol 2, B. Keays , J. Licht , D. Budarick
Best Players: , D. Budarick , B. Keays , R. William , J. Brown , C. Wagner , J. Allison

Good to see a J. Brown with 4 goals next their name again!

:)
Just what we need - a replacement J Brown.

Lil Jack is coming along nicely. Imagine what he might do when he ditches the nappies.

After watching the game on Saturday I am stunned that 2 of the QLD players named in best players!!! Also stunned that Cory Wagner was not named best on ground as he clearly dominated the game in all aspects. Appears to me that best players must be a political choice.

QLD footy has always had questionable politics surrounding it.

On what I'm told, you can be pretty confident that the Lions really like Wagner as a draft prospect.
