Been following the progress of Adam Selwood over there as he grew up around where I did. He definately looks like a player, and barring injury would have probably been in your best 22. Just wondering what you guys over there think of him? was a bit of a roughie when the eagles picked him up, and looks like he will repay their faith. is he getting homesick at all? i am sure the pies will be able to figure out a trade for him if he was! :)

Welcome to bigfooty Stevo.

Selwood played a few games in the middle third of the season and then got injured. I don't know whether he's getting homesick, but I know that I rate him quite highly and wouldn't like to see him leaving the Eagles.

I started to love Selwood (No, Streaker, not in that kinda way) when in his first game during a stop in play he ran 50m to try and deck Wayne Carey.

I don't know what other people think but personally I rate him very highly, higher than Butler and about on par with Waters. Not the best of skills, but very quick, absolutely fantastic tackler, and with the grunt and attitude to make a very good in and under player and tagger. For that reason, he's probably a big part of WC's future, since its a lot harder to develop a genuine in and under midfielder than wingmen. Selwood has the size and the physical ability to be that, and far more importantly he has the right mentality. Put simply, he's the type of player John Worsfold loves.

I would be very very unhappy if we traded him. If he can beat the OP I think he's in our best 22 next season.

he would have played the majority of this season had he not been injured. He's rated pretty highly down the club and signed a new 2 year deal about 2 months ago, so i'm guessing he's not too homesick. I agree with Mead, if he can get over the OP then he'll be in our starting 22 next year. I think he has a a great future.

I reckon if we can keep him, which seems likely since he just resigned, I think he'll be right in there in our midfield. Hard to see atm where he'll fit in, but i think hes a great player. When we played against st.kilda he lined up on Dal Santo and played on him quite well until he came off injured. Should be a good player in the future

If there were no questions over his ability to stay healthy I doubt the Eagles would be going after Stenglein. He did some tagging roles this year and looked good. Hopefully he can have a good preseason and have an impact in 2005.

Great news I wasnt aware of this. Was it for another two years?

Selwood is absolute class. I wouldnt say he was a roughie.... but he has been injured and was injured in his junior career. Most scribes thought he was definately the most talented of the 2 brothers.... and I believe his parents even said so.

Good to hear he is rated so highly. He and dal santo were best mates growing up. them two plus troy played juniour football together for years. the other 15 didnt even need to take the field. i heard that stenglein looks to be heading home. from what i saw this year he played a similar role to him. would you develop selwood or rather pay a high price for a ready made tagger? personally, i dont think paying big dollars for taggers is worth it. he seems to have the traits to be a very good run with player at that level, but if eagles want stengein will they off load him? hopefully he keeps pushing on, but if he is given up... we will make him at home

I knew about him and Dal Santo... Selwood said after the st,kilda game that it was the closest thing to playing against his brother when he lined up on Dal Santo

Well Stenglien is about 25, and Selwood 20/21?? that Selwood might still take another year or so to develop into a good tagger, so Stenglien would fill that void while that happens. If selwood hadb't injured himself he would have played pretty much the whole year which would have helped with his development but he's now a year behind. Personally i hope we can develop him into a 'tagger' as a defensive midfielder is something the team lacks a bit atm, and if we do get Stenglien we'd have two of them to try and take on the oppostions midfielders

Depending on how Stenglein shapes up- (and personally I have my doubts about his ability to tag the smaller quicker midfielders nowadays) I think we may end up playing one of the two as a tight small defender.

FWIW, two years down the track, I think our ideal midfield rotation could look something like this-

C: Morton Judd Butler
R: Cox Kerr Fletcher

Int: Braun, Selwood, Stenglein
Embley and Cousins on the HFF, Waters on the HBF.

Stevo you sound like a nice, intelligent bloke. Are you sure you support Collingwoood?

I'm really liking to look of our midfield. and only a few years ago our midfield was basically just cousins :D

Very promising, and hopefully we don't lose Judd (I'm praying mighty damn hard) our midfield could be classed right up there with the brisbane midfield as it is right now

if he is to leave the toasters i reckon its the lions he may go to link up with his brother who is tipped for a senior spot next year !!!!!

yeah maggies through and through. not all of us are one eyed. some of us do understand there is more than 1 team in the comp :)

no its true, one of my best friends is a collingwood supporter. not only does she have all her own teeth, but shes got a couple of university degrees too. and shes really nice and well adjusted as well.

tell you the truth, joining bigfooty was a bit of a shock after knowing her for so many years. you gets a very bad impression of collingwood supporters on here.
