He's capable up there too.

Don't mind it given our total lack of small forward depth.
but that would just make that MSD outcome even more of a head scratcher..

we had a small forward deficiency all year.. nicks just a week before the MSD even said that if we took someone it would be a small forward… then come draft day we picked up yet another half back type.. and one that, whilst he looks a good prospect, is miles off taking a spot away from all the other half back options in the team..

are we really now gonna try him as a small forward?..

why the hell didnt we just pick that young WA lad, tyrone thorne, who is an absolute livewire with tons of xfactor and was good enough to make the WAFL team of the year..

just *in weird.

I still hold out hope for Milera being a mid.
Seeds might have 1-2 years left.
There’s always some injuries
I’m just holding out hope that milera even gets back at all… but he plays his best footy off half back. so thats where he should be.

looked nice the tiny bit we got to see of him.
still remember that rocket pass he kicked to lynchy that was unfortunately just intercepted by a finger before it hit tom lace out on the chest..

he definitely looked promising.. and ****ed if you could say he hasnt got courage in spades..

Milera is a half back

He's not, has always played his best football forward of centre, can't defend worth a damn - you can mitigate that by sticking him in a half forward zone, but he's always been torn up by opponents he should be beating down back.

Our half back flankers are Smith, Hamill, and Hinge, though in a pinch we also have wingmen and a mid in Seedsman, Sholl, Laird, and maybe Cook (and soon Dawson) who could do it but are better utilised elsewhere. I don't know what Parnell is yet.

When?

His first couple of seasons. When we tried to turn him into a half back flanker the next season or so it didn't work, and then not long after putting him into the midfield proper he got injured and injured again, which is where we are now.

This is correct - played most of his junior footy up forward and all of his draft hype was about him being a forward who had some midfield potential - heaven knows how he’s made his way to defence at AFL level

I don't recall Milera doing much in his first few seasons as a forward, numbers wise theres nothing there. He was moved out of half back because he played there in 2018, and in 2019 Smith came back from his ACL. After the first month they couldnt make it work with Smith, Laird and Milera, and sent him to half forward where he's been injured or terrible.

He's been a flash in the pan as a midfielder. There was a preseason interview on the website a few years ago saying he wants to play defense and he thinks its his best position.

Wayne has now played 62 games of AFL, his junior footy means SFA now. Besides most juniors of his talent dominate if played forward in junior footy, even at SANFL level, doesn’t mean they replicate it at AFL level.

He has now played significant patches of footy both forward of the ball and behind it. His best footy, by far, has been behind the footy.

The hope would be he might transition to the midfield, unfortunately injuries probably have put paid to that.

EVERYONE’s best footy is behind the ball. It’s where you push failing midfielders to regain confidence

Not sure I agree with that.

Ricky Henderson for example was rubbish behind the ball, moved to the Hawks and played his best football on the wing and half forward

The weak, defensively inept outside players tend to be exposed behind the ball - Rory Atkins and David Mackay also come to mind - and are better played midfield and forward of center

Ricky Henderson wasn’t rubbish with us though. That’s part of the problem

Often it's a solution for inept coaches.
Teague shifted SPS to hbf when he definitely mid/hf

Jones they put to high expectation to early but I also think our coaching set up was atrocious

Good coaches that know their.stuff and their players can often avoid it.

Not sure Andrew McClellan was a failing midfielder, I probably think he revolutionise that role and importance of that attacking and creative HB

We have seen players like Zac Williams and Brodie Smith start their careers at HB but then have failed to have the same consistent impact in the midfield however playing midfield is a different look then playing as a genuine mid so not all players will make that transition.

Whereas players like Laird and Pariah have now made this transition at AFL level

He was a struggling half forward when first moved to half back

We should recruit Rankine before he goes to half back, everyone realises he can play and the cost doubles

Consistency was his issue. Not helped by constant soft tissue injuries (Burton and Hass FFS).
