Personally, I'd like to trade 23 and a 2022 3rd for Dawson - and trade our 2022 2nd for the GCS pick 22.
I’d try and do the 2nd deal only if Sydney requested 37 or the Kelly compo instead of a 2022 3rd. Don’t want to give up toooo many future picks

GC might just take it too, considering their list spot squeeze

Not next year, not 2023, but if we continue to make good decisions 2024-2030 we will have window.

Next 2 drafts and a couple of decent recruits and we are set.

We’ve been crying out for the club to do this, took Burton and a camp to lead it to, good job Roo but no more mates.
With the Dees just winning the flag on the back of a supreme fitness base that Petracca himself made specific mention of, having Burgess here might be a lure for players we want in future trade periods

For sure it would be, now when it comes to a choice between us and Port, we’ve got a huge advantage.

We are the bigger club, we are getting our shit together and they will start to go backwards.

Where’s Big Kev?

I really thought Rendell had lost his marbles; he probably still has but I didn’t disagree with much he said about the Crows.

Rendell has lost his marbles is a narrative code a few use to explain away the difference between his opinion and theirs

he’s always been a great judge of talent and I’ve not seen anything to change my mind

He did suggest last year that we’d have to use the GWS pick (Pedlar) to match a bid for Newchurch.

he’s a huge wrap for newchurch (I am not), and on talent alone I can see where he is coming from.

but fu** me I’ve never seen a less competitive player in my life, and I’ve watched Troy Menzel!

I always felt we judged Troy harshly; he had a shocking run with us - several concussions and constant SANFL byes meant he never had any ‘continuity’ but wasn’t useless when he played at AFL level.

Appears the rest of the league agreed with us though so what do I know.

I guess this thread is a good spot to talk about mcasey’s value.

I know he’s a young kpp and they take time, but on what we have seen so far there is every reason to be worried. He’s already obviously behind butts and Murray, and maybe even Frampton, on our coaches’ kpd depth chart. He has never played a really good game at AFL level, and I am not aware of him ever having played a breakout game at SANFL level. Again, I know, he’s young, but it’s worrying that we haven’t really seen any signs pointing to a really good player yet.

despite this, I get the feeling people on here value him highly still. Why? Is if because we picked him so high? His junior career? He is not fast, or super competitive, or an amazing mark. He’s not a great runner. He’s not an incredible kick.

I think he’s probably worth something in the pick 20 to 30 range at the moment. To us, he’s probably worth even less, precisely because we don’t really need kpds. We’d be better off with another young pick 20-30 mid or small forward than continuing to hope he eventually gets to a schache-level career.

I agree with most things you say except no one will give up a pick 20 to 30 for him which then starts to reach a point that we may as well hang onto him for another 12 months given we won't take late picks.

We are also not a top team where we might have a squeeze on list numbers

He's certainly not one for going with the group think which can make some of his calls stand out like the dog's proverbials. Draft watching is an imperfect art and so it makes sense that someone with a unique take can still be a good judge of talent - even if they occasionally sound a bit kooky.

Hard to say, but I would think the fact that he went and played ammos the year after he got cut instead of going straight the the SANFL to try and get back into the AFL does suggest that he’d lost the drive to make it by the end of his career.

Not knocking him for that btw, I’d imagine the concussions probably took their toll and it’s perfectly understandable to just want to enjoy playing footy for a while.

Rendell said today if sloane was played forward permanently for next year he'd kick 40 goals, got to say he got me a bit excited when he said that because i agree that sloane would be a pretty good pest forward and he should let our kids learn their midfield craft, but i dont think he'd kick as much as 40 goals.

Yeah I had to replay it when he said that

He could average a goal a game or a bit over, but he wouldn’t get to 40, particularly if Fog/Thilthorpe continue a trajectory (hell, even McAdam might find some consistent form again)

He’s right. Played as a permanent half forward, I could see him easily at 1.5 to 2 goals per game

he’s smart, ultra competitive and good overhead
