Adelaide v Carlton: Round 6, MCG

What was once thought a gimme game, this round against Carlton looms as a bit of a danger game. We have not played good footy in the last 2 rounds although managed to come away with a win. Carlton on the other hand are running hot and have strung 2 wins together. Carlton now have the Judd machine making all the difference to their mid-field and delivery to Fevola. Fevola (26 goals) has been in awesome form in recent weeks bagging 7 goals last week to be second on the goal kicking ladder behind Buddy Franklin (29). For the first time ever, we have two goal kickers in the top 10 - Goodwin (4th with 16) and Burton (6th with 14). Chris Judd is averaging 25 disposals per game while our closest is Andrew McLeod with 23.6. Some might argue that Judds 25 possessions may have more of an impact on the game than McLeods. Scotty Thompson (23.4) is not far behind, but he has been heavily tagged in recent weeks and is not having any real impact. We need him to lift this week. Our back line - normally our strength - has been down for the last two weeks. Is it a coincidence that we have struggled in the last two games? We need the boys - Bock, Rutten, Johncock, Bassett and Stevens to fire against Carlton. Probably need to play Bock on Fevola (matches him with speed) and have Bassett or Stevens dropping in front to cut off his leads. Our rucks should be able to hold their own against the Blues this week but the determining factor will be if our mid-field can get on top of the Judd led Blues. VB definitely needs to lift this week. A winnable game, but we will have to play substantially better than we have the last two weeks. Hopefully we will see a return of some experience (Massie or Knights) and perhaps see the debut of Dangerfield.

Will be a good game. I have to tape it because i will be at work. just one question what strip will we be wearing?

I think we can say that Fevola will kick atleast 3 or 4. It's stopping Judd/Murphy/Stevens from giving him the chance to kick 7+. If he does, we lose. Pretty simple equation. We have the backline and midfield to do it, it's a matter of whether our heads are switched on. We only managed to beat Carlton by a few late goals last time, and they've improved significantly since then.

The next 3 weeks - Carlton, Kangaroos, Demons - should all be wins, but I think we may drop one, which will be this week. Just.

Will be a close one.
Cant wait.
Bit nervous though.
Was going to go to this one but mum said no after a while :(
Have to wait till the Collingwood match....
Truck to keep Fev quite...hopefully

Will be a major test for the Blues. We haven't played a team nearly as well-drilled, fit and defensively skilled as the Crows. My guess is it will prove too much for a team that's still learning what to do, how to control games and how to NOT give up easy goals.

But I'm looking forward to how we go against you. Rather than dreading a fearful hiding as I would have the last few years, I'll be interested in seeing how things play out. There are now actually a few Blues worth worrying about (Judd, Fev the obvious ones, but some others are showing talent), and the much-maligned defence is improving rapidly before our eyes.

My tip is Vince, Porpz and VB young middies prove too good for the Blues, but I think we'll put up a solid fight.

Carlton are slowley working out that they should give it to Judd when possible. Too many times i saw Judd running shotgun ready to recieve and he wasn't honered.

Hopefully they dont pull their finger out too much this week, because as far as talented teams....their about it.

I'm backing Truck to do very well against an in form fev, maybe fev could worry with a bit of pace, but if truck gets body contact before the lead then he will own fev.

Im hoping for IN: Danger, Knights, Maric (if dry, although his form should mean in either way)
OUT: Kenny, shirley, Jacky (a few more SANFL games buddy, to get in rytham)

If Maric doesn't come in then I would wet myself to see Walker, he's that lead up forward we're missing, great footy brain.

Would not be suprised to see Bock on Fev. Fev is a quick leading type player, and this can worry Rutten who does not have explosive pace. If Craig floods back then I expect Rutten to play on him, but if he decides to stay attacking and open, then Bock.

From our view

Goodwin - Jamison (Stopped Medhurst and Robbo recently)
Burton - Waite
Tippet - Bower
McLeod - Russell / Bannister to tag hard.

If this was at TD, then I would lean towards the Crows, but we like the G and have a decent record there, so BLues by 12 :thumbsu:

IN: Maric, Knights, Dangerfield
OUT: KMac, Shirley, Jacky

Fingers crossed anyway.

I would agree on the Shirley=Knights; Dangerfield=Jacky, but do you think that Maric for KMac would really help the team at the moment?
I know that KMac is not fast, but I don't think that Maric can cover the ground as well as Kenny. Knights is coming back from a 4 weeks lay off and may not be fit enough to play a full game. With Maric in, would we be able to have the right rotations to keep the centre going?
With Judd, Murphy and Stevens in, our centres need to be kept reasonably fresh to keep up with them. I believe our middle is pretty good but not fully hardened yet.
One question I would like to pose is: Assuming that NC wants to keep the structure as it is, with Maric's showing in the SANFL, would we swap Griffin / Teppitt for Maric? If we don't, then I don't believe Maric should be swapped for KMac. IMHO that is.

Kenny needs to find some confidence again. We lose nothing allowing Tippett to stay forward and Maric to ruck with Griff. Tippet effectively plays his/Kenny's forward role with Maric rucking (with Griff) and possibly playing the deeper forward target that Tippet was.

IN: Maric, Knights, Dangerfield

Thats what I'd want too.

At a bare minimum,

IN: Maric, Knights
Out: KMac, Jacky

I've not seen Tippett soundly beaten when the footy is in his area yet. Let's use that ability and kick to him getting runners like Douglas etc hitting the pack in front of him!

Tough test for the younger Carlton players to do it 3 in a row. Adelaide are very even over the ground with a sprinkling of brilliance and are a big-bodied team. Hopefully Gibbs comes back from injury, and if Judd, Murphy, Stevens, Hadley et al perform at their best then I think Fev, Fisher and Betts might just get enough opportunities to hold out the Crows. Looking forward to seeing young Dangerfield play (looks a likely prospect - the word electric comes to mind) - but not this week against Carlton.
