Adelaide's decline

One media narrative about the crows which I do think is bullshit is that: "their drafting has been bad". That implies that it's the fault of the draftees not being good enough. I actually think the draftees aren't that bad and are the least of Adelaide's problems. I saw this on footy classified and thought it was poor form.

McAstey is a young KPD, too early to judge
Jones has been picked on by a few crows fans here but he's a young midfielder in a bad team, not the easiest of roles
McHenry has been rotated from midfield to the forwardline which is a really tough role to fill in a bad team
Fogarty probably needs to play in a different forwardline with different players

Gallucci has been a bit of a disappointment and has been criticised internally. But they're not the only team to miss on a teens pick.

If I were the crows, I'd be playing the kids as much as possible. Figure out if they can play, and if they can't delist them. Their trading has been bad, particularly the Gibbs trade.

Why? All he would be doing is taking a younger player's spot. If he wasn't contracted until 2021 the Crows would have let delisted him at the end of 2019.
Yep, more likely to be playing for the Bays next year than going to Carlton.

Tex is done and Sloane is now a mediocre role player on $800k. Signing him for 5 years after it became clear he was no longer a gun mid is as wasteful as Gibbs' contract. We've got to stop rewarding these guys with their biggest contracts in their declining years. It's god awful TPP managemenr.
Does Tex have another year?

Agree, thought it does make it harder when most of the SA media are full of club ambassadors/apologists who seem more intent on protecting those working for AFC as opposed to best interests of AFC.

Then there are the sensationalist AFL media who seem more intent to cause a sh*t storm from the largest camp rumour, as opposed to analysing the inner workings of AFC that has taken the club from a premiership window to one of the worst wooden spooners in a long time.
But in SA surely there is anger building that those in charge have presided over this?

Reid is a terrible list manager. The Gibbs trade was bad but giving big contracts to JJ and Sloane reeked of desperation due to our retention issues. Sloane's been a great player for us, but with his style of play, he was never going to play well into his 30s like Burgoyne or Simpson. Offering Jones a 3 year extension could come back to bite us as well. Hopefully he can turn things around.

Not in the media as the club have them covered by club ambassadors... which is why it's so hard to get change at the club.

Camp
Tippet-gate
Burton
Haas
Most inexperienced coaches.

Very silent Chairman who has presided over all of this.

Lack of pressure on the Board, CEO & management is astounding.

They know we have no say as members & they have bought most of the media off to be apologists.

But surely there's someone in SA media (rightly) having a crack?
I mean, it's a disaster

You would think so if they were doing their job.

Seriously most media here have club ambassadors.

Is there another AFL Chairman who has lasted this long overseeing 2 disasters? Should have resigned after Tippett-gate & still waiting his promised explanation to members.

When Fagan joined AFC, he said it was his mission to build the best football department in the AFL. Well we now have the worst football department in the AFL! If he had any integrity he too wouod resign.

We pay our deputy CEO Smart to oversee non-football related activities for what?

The AFC are a disgracefully run organisation compared to the Hammond/Sanders days.

What about K.Cornes? He seems to have a profile and not shy of criticising the Crows

No one listens to him as he mainly sprouts attention seeking BS.

not Reid, he's only the instrument of the 3 amigos. Do you really think the list manager cares about the optics of a Rory Sloane leaving? This is the guy that refused to pay overs for Gibbs in 2016. Fagan bragged to the media that he instructed Reid to not walk out of trade period without Gibbs. Use your brain, the problems are higher up than Reid.

Rucci wrote a 4 part article for InDaily a few weeks back. It's was the probably the best I've read from him in years. Seems to have gone quiet again now though. I'd be more than happy if he wrote a few more along the same lines.

Offering a 3 year extension to a 2nd year player could come back to bite us how exactly? Form is obviously poor this year, but the extension gives him one less thing to stress about so he can focus on his development on field.

Reid isn't the biggest problem but he shouldn't be immune from criticism either. He's made some very questionable list management decisions with overblown contracts to senior players and, of course, caving into the Gibbs trade in 2017.

I just feel that 3 years is one too many. By all means give him an extra year or 2, but we'd want to hope that he starts showing improvement next year or else we're stuck with him contracted until 2023.
