Can you imagine the outrage on 6PR if this happened....

Would probably be the wrong move imo as there's no-one really ready to step into the role. Wouldn't hurt making it known that its a possibilty tho, just to make sure he remembers who's boss.

Yeah, I'm not so sure about that.

Sandi could adequately do the job for a year or two whilst the likes of Fyfe, Suban or even Barlow mature into the role.

Whilst Pav was constantly played out of position, and playing injured, this year, he was hardly the inspirational leader that we needed.

True leaders overcome their situation and lead from the front by their deeds and not their words.

Even if you accept that any of these theories about Pavlich are correct, I think that reliving him of the captaincy would be a bridge too far given everything else that has occurred. (For what its worth I think there is a bit of "I am Freo" about him, which may partly explain why he has stuck around.)
Then of course I think our prospective candidates to replace him are all too young as well.

People like to pick on Pav especially after this year. He will remain our captain until he retires which I am all for. The players, especially the kids, respect him so much. It's because he had a bit of a down year this season, people are just finding other things to complain about. Let's see how he goes next season with a new coach and playing in the correct position. I'm sure he'll do well again.

I'm not having a crack at him at all.

I respect him above all others at our club.

I just don't subscribe to the theory that the best player should necessarily be the Captain. And I believe that he would flourish even further without carrying the media commitments and associated pressure of being the skipper in the Perth football bubble.

Take Nick Maxwell and Cameron Ling for example.

I understand what you're saying, but all season people have said some pretty nasty shit about Pav - calling for his head and saying he's a pathetic captain. I don't think he is at all and people were just overreacting. It was the fact that he was playing in a position he sucks at all season. So that was the point of my post really.

In the future, seeing someone like De Boer (who isn't one of our best players) as our captain would be perfect. Kind of like Brett Kirk.

Yep, from what I heard they weren't exactly upset when they heard the news.

Harvs was good for us. When he took over we were a rabble. He played the young guns and tried to instill some hardness into them. In the Connolly days the way we tried to show hardness was by belting blokes with reports being common. Under Harvs it was by going hard at the contest.

I always felt Harvs was the guy that was needed to turn around the culture but didn't have the tactical ability to take us to the next step. Now we have a guy that can.

I'm still not convinced that we don't have a 'tail wagging the dog' situation at the club. If it's still happening hopefully Ross has the ability to get rid of it once and for all. My worry is that it starts at the top of the playing group, ie Pav.

IMHO there is a 100% chance Pav was consulted before they got rid of Harvey. At the very least the club knew, in no uncertain terms that Pav wouldn't be crying if Harvey left.

Cultural change can be very difficult, and someone coming from outside is almost always required. Lyon will give us that. Harvey tried but I agree, he didn't have the tactical nouse to beat the top flight teams. Like Connolly he would have been able to take the next step. Connolly was a great planner, terrible match day coach and poor man manager, and Harvey got the man management right.

Hopefully Lyon is the complete package.

Ben Allan is commentating on SEN tonight.
He was asked about the sacking.

SEN tweeted this:
"Ben Allan says he is sick of 'second best is good enough' we want to take this club where it needs to be!"

That's it right there.
Good to hear Ben is echoing the sentiments of the unsilent majority that don't just want us to get by on well wishes & bake sales. Good shit.
