I think it goes even further back than that. Kennedy was widely expected, on the Adelaide Board, to be the player we would select in the GWS mini-draft. Adelaide chose Brad Crouch instead.
Like selecting danger over Ebert - yet another example of our recruiting team going for talent over emotion.

After today's game Harrison Wigg or Caleb Daniel as local boys please.

Wigg a silky mover, wingman type, Daniel just a ball magnet inside outside it doesnt matter, he's only 167cm though but vertically challenged hasnt stopped Boomer Harvey. Wigg unfortunately might fall between our 1st and 2nd range (maybe Port, but I think they're in love with Johansen) Daniel recruiters are really unsure where to place him.

Don't think Wright is going anywhere - they tried to get him up to Brisbane last year and his management came out publicly stating he was not up for trade.

In any event his form is starting to head north back to where it was 2012
Is it ....seems to me to have been patchy ...had good games, bad games and within games

Great last qtr last week .....but quietish till then

Only problem with Wright, apart from fact he's slowish and similar to our other midfielders ......is that as a midfielder he doesn't hurt you
As a small forward he often does hurt the opposition

Someone mentioned Wright could take over the midfield tagging role, similar to the outside tag he often played in 2012. I like this idea, freeing Kerridge to play that defensive HFF role on the opposition rebounder. Part of Wright's inconsistency seems to me to stem from not being given a consistently defined role.

Daniel just looks so tiny
A smurf ......hard to tell where he goes but i suspect 2nd round simply as this is a tall draft

Really don't think we can afford another non marking midfielder .....love the speed aspect but ATM we lack midfield marking strength as well as speed

Why would we trade Wright?!

Kid is only 24 and is an absolute blue chip. Some of his play on the weekend was next level stuff.

Another AFC rookie selection gem!
That's extreme ? .......he may well get forced out next year from the best 22, and has good trade value at present

I can see Betts & Charlie squeezing out Wright as a forward

I can see certainly M.Crouch over wright & Lyons is unknown till after another PS campaign

Interesting.... But Tippett isn't?

Of course but that isn't the issue. He isn't coming back - if he allegedly wanted to return to the Crows - I would say the same thing "disloyal, flog - don't want him"

At the end of the day, he made it perfectly clear he didn't want to be in Adelaide but we didn't listen to him.

Anyway - Phil isn't returning to Adelaide.

Has anyone been listening to the rush hour? Apparently Jars was gonna be interviewing Phil Davis after 4 but I didn't get to hear it. I'm sure he would of said something along the lines of he's happy at GWS etc etc, but just interested to hear what he had to say.

Goes to show how good that SA side is. Only Durdin rated in the top 10 and even he is slipping on some mock drafts. Great team effort

Geez that Caleb Daniel played a gun of a game! He was everywhere mid and forward and so silky with his skills. He's the second coming of Ian Callinan...wonder what the recruiters will think?

What about that Petracca kid hasn't he got some 'WOW' factor too, be long gone before our pick I'd think!!

Knightmare seems to be suggesting that of late SA have been picking the best TEAM possible, whereas WA/VICx2 are selecting the best PLAYERS in order to give those guys the best chance of being drafted. Might explain the success of the SA u-18s over the last couple of years.

Ben Kennedy would be a great get, but don't forget the Pies are ruthless when it come to trading.

This is what worries me. I've never been a huge fan of Kennedy because of his size and think all the hype has been mainly potential.
He's not in Collingwood's automatic 22, why would he be in ours?
Bett's and Cameron seem like they'll be our first choice small forwards, both are as quick as Kennedy and better overhead. Cameron was a rookie choice who cost us nothing. Kennedy may edge him out but we definitely have more pressing needs with our first round draft pick which will be quite low.

A low first round choice, you grab KPP ala Talia /Davis or a strong and powerful midfielder type like Wines/Danger/Ziebell or add some elite pace with size, Rohan / Lewis Jetta... (IMO)

Kennedy's not a free agent so a trade is required.
There is no way on earth I would give away our first round pick for him and as you stated Kane McGoodwin, Collingwood are ruthless traders.

Kennedy was a pick 19 and has a few years invested in him, they'll want a bit for him, not just a couple of depth players who can't regularly make our top 22. Would they take our second pick?.....with a player.... they may.
Would I risk our second pick on Kennedy personally; I'm not sure I would either. Just can't see a real pressing need for him.
Not a key defender which we need, not a true wingman and could create match up problems for us.
He is a quick forward but I already like what we have and Crouch /Wright/ Kerridge /Douglas can also run through there.
He just not the type of midfielder I would recruit because of his size and IMO it's not his natural position.

Having said all that if the Crows can work out a deal where we lose our second round pick and perhaps a surplus player but regain their second round pick then I think I could live with that and he could be a handy pick up.

If he was a free agent then I agree go hard at him.
I'm sure the recruiters won't give away too much to get him but after losing so many draft pick's over the last few years I really think Kennedy can't come at a premium cost. We have some real pressing needs and this year Kennedy doesn't fill many of them but I'm not Hamish Ogilvie.

Very doubtful he would go into the psd. How often does that happen?

2nd round pick with Johnston would be laughed at by the pies.

Pies are ruthless traders & they would ask for a decent player.

So they're going to force him to sign a contract if we don't meet their terms in a trade are they? We have all the power here. The more 'ruthless' Collingwood are, the more likely it is they'll get nothing for a player that is essentially quitting their club in the scenario being presented.

As I said before though, I'm far from convinced Kennedy will leave Collingwood. Just because he's not getting a regular gig in the 22 doesn't automatically mean he's miserable.

The reason why the PSD doesn't happen often is because the club getting bent over a barrel by the uncontracted player leaving realises they're either getting unders or they're getting nothing.

You have a bit to learn about trading...

Why don't players move via the psd all the time...

PSD is a terrible option for the player. Unless we finish bottom then he could end up anywhere when he's trying to get to Adelaide.

Tippett was an exception because the size of his contract. We would only nominate a contract that is commensurate with his standing which will easily be matched by 7 or 8 other clubs.

Some get through to their chosen club, but some don't.

Can't imagine Kennedy would want to take that kind of risk - could backfire very badly for him

Yep he is probably top 5 if not top 3 now, I reckon GWS bound.
Saints & Lions will go talls (Wright, McCartin, Durdin) GWS have plenty so mid or rebounding back/mid is what they'll need. All depends on the finishing spots.

I'm also surprised nobody has taken note that Troy Menzel hasn't signed with Carlton yet and imo brings much more to the table then kennedy.

Troy Menzel? WANT WANT WANT! There's a lot of wingard about him and will be a star. Should go hard for him before Kennedy imo. As an SA lad there is always a chance ;)

I answered that already.

A la Jack Gunston, Brett Ebert, half of Brisbane's list etc. If he's leaving Collingwood and nominates us, we hold all the aces on the trade table. In any case, our second round pick will likely be around the 28 mark. That plus Jarryd Lyons isn't a bad deal ayway for someone who was selected at Pick 18ish and hasn't established himself yet.

Correct. And Collingwood receiving nothing for a player who is worth something is a terrible result for them too.

Which is why Pick 28 plus someone like Lyons for Kennedy (a former Pick 18 who hasn't done much) would get accepted.

No - most players do not want to go into the psd as there is no guarantee they will get to their club of choice. Hence they prefer the certainly of a trade.

Afc gained jj, kerridge & Grigg for gunston so it's not like we got done over by the hawks!

Unlikely Kennedy will walk into the psd!

If pies were going to lose anyone via pad it would have been Shaw when giants had #1 pick... Yet still did not happen.

Why are you so keen on him?
Giving away a second round pick and a player for (a former Pick 18 who hasn't done much) might get accepted but does he upgrade the team in those areas we are weak in.
Keeping our second round pick and choosing for a position we need to strengthen seems the better option to me.
The fact that he may become available is certainly a reason to look at him but what qualities does he possess that you think will improve the team and what position would you be expecting him to play?

If we can somehow keep or snare a later second round pick and get Kennedy then I'm in agreement.
