if we did trade pick 10 for 14 and 21... what about the following trades:

1. Pick 14 and 50 to GWS for Sheils and Giles

2. Pick 31 to Hawthorn for Schoenmakers (i like this far more than Cheney deal);

3. Lyons to St Kilda for pick 22 (unlikely) or 41 (likely)

We bring in ruckman, elite speed (first round pick) and Tall defender whilse still having pick 21...
Would have to include pick 21 for shiel as a minimum. I think 14 for Davis is fair if he requests a trade back. Then use 21 in the draft for some outside speed

I had vb pencilled in at half back next year, the only position i could find for him. If we recruit Cheney is it curtains for vb?

I'd have VB and Kerridge rotating through half forward and the midfield, with Wright out of the side

Brenton Phillips is on trade radio talking up Dean Gore. Shut up Sticks! Tell them he is a spud!

How the he'll are we in rebuild mode?

Rebuilds are for clubs on a downward slide which we are most definitely not.

We will be looking to push for a premiership in the next 3 - 4 years.

Smart trading and drafting is what we need, and that means holding onto our best players!

I didn't saw we are rebuilding, I said if we bottom out next year then we would be.

Ah, ok.

Sorry . My bad. Misunderstood..

Zero chance of us bottoming out IMO.

The only reason we would bottom out with the players we have is if the players are disenchanted.

And that was 2014.

Only way is up from here.

On the assumption that a) he doesn't want to be here; and b) we'll match any offer (which we will) then his preferred destination team will have to give up something for him next year, and still give up a large portion of their salary cap.

As I said in another post, if we match and he still wants out, I'd be very interested to see if his preferred destination team would still have the same offer on the table once they actually have something to lose. This part of free agency is yet to be tested.

Regardless, I think he wants to stay and will sign early next year, so we won't have to worry about any of this.

I bet he is offered 1.5 million next year.. That is why you wait.. Even if he intends signing with the Crows, he must wait until next year

If I was Giles, assuming Ryder goes to Port, I'd pick to go to Essendon. He's only got Bellchambers to beat there, whereas he ain't going to get near Sauce at the AFC. The delay with Giles picking a club, may well be resting with the Ryder move.

If we're willing to turn down offers now, we're likely to be willing to match any offer.

Or that there is eternal optimism that he won't leave the club. Patty has said time and time again that he wants success and wants to play in a successful environment. What then happens if by mid-season, then club is not a lot better than we are now? There aren't any guarantees that a new coach will suddenly make this side play better. Then a Geelong come in with an offer of $1.3-1.5m per season for a few seasons and he walks out the door.

The club are all in at this point and are banking on onfield success plus peer pressure to keep him at the club.
