AFL is just a terrible sport for a video game. Any given game is completely all over the shop.
It lacks any real tactics compared to other team sports, and there are certainly no real in depth set plays or anything like that. Absolute bastard of a sport to turn into a quality video game.
yes I have a question. what do i do?

great ideaI would love EA to do it. Imaging the Be a Pro mode, it would be great fun playing out of the forward line, or running through the midfield, even as a back with your main objective to spoil, although it might get a little boring when the ball is in your forward line or backline and you playing the opposite end just waiting there.
I would hope you start in the WAFL, SANFL or VFL and if you perform, you get drafted, if not you are stuck in the lower leagues for another year. Then once drafted, you continue to play in your league and get a call up once you perform.
It would be awesome, you wouldn't get to just choose your team either, you would get drafted just like kids get drafted, I could be off to Carlton for example. Perform and make yourself a star then you could demand a trade back to Perth to play for the Eagles, the opposite of Juddy.
I just wish we had the means to put some effort into an AFL game in this country.
J.Waite vs J.Brown 2007
Yeah it's a bit annoying...
1. Must extract all the files into one folder.
2. Run the setup (takes a while) must press the folder button to start
3. Once installed, go to the folder and run the setup and setup reg.
4. Play the Game
Excellent cheers. Dos this work on VISTA?
Do you know how to Play 2005 PC on VISTA?

As do I, but to be realistic, the "be a pro" mode would get tremendously boring (especially if you had to play through a whole career like that). Obviously the popular choice would be to play as a midfielder, but if you were to play as a full back there would be almost no action. An idea to possibly cure the boredom would be to include a lot of "off the ball" things you could do, like getting stuck into a player with bumps and sneaky hits, taunting the crowd/players, purely for entertainment purposes so you don't just have to watch your guy stand there for minutes. That's when the game could incorporate confidence and composure levels that affect a player's performance.
Of course, this kind of detail will never be included in an AFL video game, but it's a nice thought I guess.
Not sure if its been posted, but I am certian there is indeed an AFL game underway for PS3/360. Might have been an official announcment already?
I know someone who is designing it - happy to pass on some feedback on behalf of the BF community (they are probably reading this thread either way I imagine).

Yep, being made by Red Ant I believe.
You asked for it!!
I just want to feel in control of the entire club - not just play 4 minute quarters with no substance.
- Let there be an interchange rotation system you can use so you don't have to manually sub off tired players (I want fatigue in this game) An example of this: If McIntosh gets below 50% fatigue, then you can have the option of either automatically having him rest at FF and allow Hale or someone else to go into the ruck until McIntosh is 75% fatigue. That way it's at least REALISTIC. Or automatically sub players with predesignated spots on the bench. I.e have a midfielder spot on the bench - whenever a player gets below 40% fatigue, they get automatically swapped with the benched player. When the benched player recovers to 60%, he automatically gets subbed on for another tired midfielder. And so on.
- Be able to upgrade certain departments of your footy club throughout the year ala FIFA09. For example - your defensive coaching staff - the more advanced they are (perhaps upgraded through experience or money or how your backline performs) the more advanced plans and strategies they can use. Same goes for the forward, ruck and midfield coach. Perhaps have the rating out of 50, and say, you upgrade your midfield coaching staff above 35 - you have the option of buying a player tagging coach who can then personally train a player to learn the art of tagging. Therefore upgrading the teams performance and individual player performance and would allow you to sculpt the kind of team YOU want.
- Gameplans. Be able to give individual players orders and strategies. For example - give your CHF a free license to run around anywhere in the forward line to take grabs. Order your forwards to make room for a particular forward because you like the match up. Order your midfielders to create runs. Order your defense to slow the game up when bringing the ball back in. Have a flood. Have a fast game plan with high risk factor.
- Opposition teams actually make positional changes to try and benefit them - not just putting Ottens in the back pocket to mark McIntosh. I.e if they are getting killed from inside 50 entries, they drop a man back. IF the opposition coach makes a change like this (going back to the coaching staff rating system) - depending on your coaches rating, they will pick up on this and decide an appropriate action - or give you an option to make a counter decision yourself.
- Drafting. Going back to the coaching staff - you have talent scouts of which you tell them what YOU want to draft in the up coming draft and they provide early reports on players. I.e North want a midfielder in the 185-190cm height range, weighing around 80-85 kg who can play as an inside player with reasonable pace and great decision making. The scouts then find the best player for your needs. For our second round we want a solid FB, all we want is speed and strength etc. etc.
- Going on from drafting... having a realistic trading simulation. Clubs inquire about a lot of your players... you can float your players. See who nibbles. Make it essential to your success to building a winning team.
- Create a team + create a player. Have All Australian sides as unlockables as well as premiership teams as unlockables.
- Match weather and conditions actually effect how the game is played. Forrrr exxxample... if Rawlings has a kicking attribute of 65 out of 100, then kicking in the wind will be a problem, but Judd has 93/100, so therefore his kicks are less effected and therefore are still low and hit the chest.
- Make taking a player one on one fun. Be able to slow up the players run, then dash past them. Give the gamer some control over their player. Allow them to do a fake OR call in another team mate to provide a shepard OR press a button to get a player to give a short option. Complete control is awesome in sport games.
- On-field play. Kicking - power up bar. Too much, the kick is a floater, too low, the kick is a dribbler or goes wide of the mark. On the money, the kick travels to the destination. Same goes for handballs.
- Real injuries FROM fatigued or battered players playing crash and bash for too long. For example... if you have a player at 10% energy who goes for an extended dash, he might do a hammy. If you play Jon Brown 100% of the time till round 20, he crashes a pack and he does a shoulder. Realllisssmmm.
- Commentators don't sound so goddamn generic. Its 2009. There is A LOT of room on a DVD / Blu-ray disk. Have more than 5 hours different commentary or something.
- Contracts - allow the user to negotiate with players in regards to performance based etc. How much we pay them etc. That'd be cool.
Sweet![]()
Some very interesting comments and points mate, I would like some of them as well, but I doubt with the limited market for this game, they will have the budget to do much more than IR Guru's did, but we can hope they are reading these forums and taking note.
Yes with duel layed DVD and Blue ray discs the capacity is certainly there
Even EA Sports Cricket had some of this, e.g bowlers coudln't always bowl their best balls during an over and got tired more they bowled and lesser ranked bowlers had less deliveiries they could bowl and batsmen gained confideance the betetr shots they played.
Pity EA has from what I can tell stopped making the Cricket game although I cannot get 100% anwer if that is for real or not.
I've not play Fifa for a couple of years, but that game was always ahead of it's time for sporting games.
