In 2006, will this actually let you kick realistic scores? In 2005, I tried it and the final score was something like (on hard):

Eagles (me): 51 34 360
Hawks (CPU): 38 1 228

Unplayable. Is this fixed in 2006?

Ok, scores will only really be like that on Easy as we haven't implemented a 'catch up' mode yet (something we'd like to add in 2007). After a while you'd win Normal mode games like that but maybe not to that extreme. You'll find yourself playing on Hard for a challenge and that is where my question is of great importance. A really good Hard level will provide longevity and variety of play.

EDIT: Egad!

See the Eagles player on the end? Who is that and what is his hair like that for? Its like a blonde afro with dark sideburns. Good thing is I can recognise Richo :)

These screenshots were taken before the final pass on player haircuts, sock types, skin colours and hair colours so don't take anything there as gospel. Spider hadn't even been allocated grey hair yet! :D

EDIT 2: Hey I can recognise Barry Hall! Very impressive stuff FH (These are screens from http://au.playstation.com/ps2/games/a/aflprem2006.jhtml) One question: Are banners back? They were a sad omission from 2005. But very impressive screenshots *thumbsup*

No Banners again this year. Mainly because they still looked pretty ordinary and it would take valuable man hours in the art department to fix them up (something we didn't have great amounts of). But we have greatly improved the intro sequences to games (as you see in that finals screenshot) so you won't miss the banners too much.

So what would be a typical score after you play a full-length-quarters game on Hard?

Whew what a relief I don't want any Eagles players with yellow afros :D

BTW Those screenshots are unreal. Much much better than last year

This game is allready unrealistic , haha us lining up in a final:p

Nice graphics though can tell there is improvment in them from last year, as somone said before you can tell its barry hall in 1 pic and i reckon in the geelong pic i can tell who Steven King is and a player towards the left looks like wojcinksi to me

In normal mode I have actual kicked 20 goals and 1 pt to the CPU no score.
If you can stop the AI CHF or FF taking a makr by timing your defenders punch, no one else in their forward line is much of a threat.
One trhing I hate, is although you can player at ruck ball up, but only to one player or when AI player takes a mark or gets a fifty, your player on he mark is the one that is getting your imput, you can't switch that to a player further up the ground, e.g a Ruckman dropping back in front of the forward.
Add that in 2006 or 2007 please.

Hate to rain on yer parade but in real life they line up for all regular season finals as well as the Anzac Day round. Not sure about pre-season finals however.

You don't have to be the man on the mark this time around. You can select from any of the nearby players which helps in pushing numbers back especially inside fwd50.

I have a question that needs some feedback peoples...

When it comes to difficulty what do you want from the hardest level of difficulty? LEt me pose a couple of hypotheticals to let you know where we may head with it...

1. A hard difficulty where you can still win a game by 40pts. You can do this by simply using the default setups for tactics and player positions on the field.

or

2. A hard difficulty where if you don't explore player matchups, team tactics and use the ball wisely (i.e. move the ball on quickly, kick to space, wait for a free man etc) you will lose by 6-7+ goals.

Essentially what I am asking is should you be rewarded on the highest difficulty for exploring all the strategical aspects of the game and exploiting your opposition through them? Let me know what you think as it's quite an issue here. Personally I am fearing that the hardest level is being dummed down too much and the User is not being encouraged enough to explore the games features in order to succeed at the highest level.

FH, Maybe you need Easy, Meduium, Hard and Expert

Option 1 can be HARD and Option 2 can be Expert.

If not then make OPTION 2 HARD...As long as it logical and not the Hard that was dished up with 2005..

A bloody good idea :thumbsu: Means the "decision guy" is happy coz Option 1 is in the game (On Hard) and us and FH are happy coz option 2 is in (Expert). :thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

There'll be no expert difficulty level but hard has been restored its former glory you'll be pleased to know...yay

Oh and when I say former glory I mean back a few weeks ago when I was crapping myself in the dying minutes...not the 2005 version of Hard difficulty...

Will do...you guys have pretty much backed up my thinking...now I just need to convince the decision maker. He favours the other way but now I'm armed with some ammo...
My philosophy is that this needs to be a footy experience and dumming it down isn't the way to provide it to people who (like me) are passsionate about their footy and who have suffered in previous versions of the game.

Tell that numbskull you work with that God invented EASY mode for dummies who can't play games.

When you make it hard, make it as you said. Ie. It will take strategy to have a chance to win. Don't make it impossibly hard.

And, I forget if this has been asked before, can you select the guernsey your team is playing in for each match? Eg. If I'm the Eagles playing Carlton at Subi, I can select the lighter blue away uniform and lighter blue shorts instead of having the regular navy and gold uniform? Or I can select the heritage jumper during any, and possibly every match, if I wanted to?

And for future season releases, you should make a create a team option, along with create a player. That way, you people can be creative and add teams to the comp, and make state of origin sides.

And get this sunnuvabeetch released on PC!!! :D

Dont know if this has been mentioned .. but has the Stats system been fixed ? and will you be able to see your stats(team and player stats) at the end of the game and also does it accumilate goals and games over the seasons like last years xbox version.

Would love this feature. I loved this feature in FIFA 2002, you'd make your team, and you'd pick players from any club in the world, sure you could make super teams, but that was only fun for a while due to being too good. This would be perfect for making SOO teams.

If it's not too late to comment, I think you should do both. There are no rules that we can't have Easy, Medium, Hard and Advanced.

Going by this thread the difficulty level of AFL games is in the top two or three issues of most behind gameplay. Every game up to 2005 was too easy, and 2005 was too hard but unnaturally so (it's tragic to think that if you're players could just kick at the same speed as medium difficulty it might have been just about right). So why not have hard and advanced to cater for both the casual players after a challenge, and the fanatics who are crying out to agonise over matchups and tactics for a material reason?

Failing that then definitely option number two.

Edit: oops sorry, already answered. But maybe for 2007....

Will we be able to kick drop punt goals from say 60 metres out on the run with big kicks such as Burgoyne, Lonies, Moloney, Buckley, Wheatley etc.

Imo there should be a kicking length and a kicking accuracy stat for each player. Moloney, for example, can really give a ball a good roost so his length would be right up there at like 90/100 but he tends to spray em a bit sometimes so in accuracy he'd be maybe a 70.
