Fh or somebody,

Could you please explain the colours of the lead indicators to the people who are going to keep/play this game because they for some reason were not mentioned in the manual.

Green = player who is clear of opponent
Yellow/Orange = it's a 50/50 decision on your part
Red = he is manned up and it'll be a contested fight for the ball

100% visible = he is within your kicking range. The more it fades, the further he is from you.

I agree with a few people when they say its hard to get a kick out of a contested position because u get tackled or smothered which is annoying. I try to get rid of the ball as fast as possible yet i still get pinged for holding the ball and the umpiring is not even on strict.

Also i think there needs to be a snap button in place. There is almost no way of scoring when hemed in on the pocket.

And in the start intro, why is there only one st kilda clip? Last year it was like that as well.

With time you'll know when to pick it up, when to knock it along the ground, when to handball and what direction to run with it. It's a feel thing that's very rewarding if you put the time in.

You can still snap...you just need to be extreme with your analog stick movement or selection on the goal HUD. I know it's not a dedicated snap button but it is possible.

Haha the guy who put it together was a Saints supporter. Actually I was unhappy at the removal of Buddy burning Harley causing Harley to snap his hammy.

Just a note
  • 10 min quarters for mine gives me the most realistic score.
  • Double the possessions of a player then minus 4 and you have very realistic stats. West finished with 16 but thats silly he was good. With my way its 28 which seems right.
What does everyone else think? Does anyone else care? Am i the only freak hee? :D

The stats were worked out based on 10 minute quarters in the game so yes, they are the most accurate. :thumbsu:

Just bought and played a couple of games. Is hard way harder than normal? Cos I've already mastered normal :thumbsu:

I dont like the hitouts, if you go 'tap', then the ball goes 20 feet into the air, and if you go 'punch', its goes about 70 meters.

Just kicked a nice goal but it was probably an IR Gurus stuff-up, cos the original kick hit the point post, rebounded back in play then I roved it and slotted it. (If it hits the point post in the NAB Cup is it still play on?)

And for the guy who said it is impossible to snap goals from the boundary, well, it ain't, cos I slotted one 'round the body with Browny and he was deadset on the boundary line, was awesome :thumbsu:

Hard is definitely harder this year. Good luck pumping sides. When you think you have it sussed out you can quickly find yourself behind in a game.

The punching of the ball in ruck contests was an issue for me so I just tap the ball and am enjoying the game.

Did you hit the point or goal post? Was the game a preseason or regular season game?

I agree, it takes practice but you can perform them.

Things i dont like:

So many smothers.
Cant mark at all.
Kicking for goal, 5 out and missing.
Too many draws.

Not bad if that's your list so far...that said though, I'd like to comment on them;

Smothers - it was our attempt at more contested football. It's a start, and we're aiming to build on it in future versions.

Marking - work at it. It'll come with practice.

Kicking for goal - if you know you've mis-timed the goal HUD I recommend hitting the play-on button and using the X button to kick. It's got me out of a few embarrassing shots 10m out :thumbsu:

Draws - what time setting do you have for quarters? 2 minute quarters will definitely produce draws but if you go 5-10 minute quarters they'll be more rare.

Alright so i've waited til i played the game a bit too make my judgements. The game play is good - the smothers are unrealistic but add a dimension of hardess around the ball, etc that "half-tackles" do in real football that i'd rather see a lot of smothers than too many tackles leading to ball ups, frees, etc. The free kicks are a little strict at points, particularly for holding the ball but you can justify that by the whole "not trying to get rid of the ball" "draggin it in" rules in proper AFL.

The people complaining about menus, etc who really cares?! Its the game i care about and if it was a great game with text-only menus i wouldn't care.

Now my only gripe and it means that i will only play season mode....Trading and Drafting in Career mode is shocking! I think personally i would have prefered that they only have the ability to play one season than to see such unrealistic trades being proposed and the draft being a "lets shuffle the teams" approach. I can understand the restraints on IR Gurus, etc when it comes to time, money and workforce, but as i said i think i would prefer that the trade/draft wasn't in at all than be so bad.

Although the Season and Single Games are very good IMO - we must all accept that we are not ever going to have a FIFA standard game as the market just isnt there.

I am VERY pleased with the new Brownlow voting. Instead of forwards winning the medal like in 2006, Steven King the Geelong ruckman won it on my first season. Plus the best & fairest awards have different a different voting sytem also. What's up with the umpiring? I barley touch the ball and it's a free against? Still a much better version than last years!

Thanks for replying mate:thumbsu: Settings are on 2 mins, that must be why.

One other thing, THE RAIN AT THE G!!! I hope you can predict the future because we are currantly in a drought:p If this turned out to be real life the dams would be flooded:D

But yes, this game is an improvement on last years thats for sure. A few tweaks here and there and you will have yourselfs a perfect game. Maybe next time you could give some copies out for die hards to test or something.

Well done FH:thumbsu:

Review: AFL 2007 One step forward two steps back.....:

Hey, not sure if this is your review or not - slightly confused there but I'll do my best to reply to all your comments (bear with me folks) :)

I'll start with the Pro's...

  • Ball spinning - yeah we were pretty chuffed to finally get that right. It really is noticeable isn't it.
  • D.O.O.B. - yeah it's more lenient this year. I reckon the main issue stems from not having a proper animation to 'save' the ball from going out of bounds. It leads to a rather strict interpretation of the rule but I find that it rarely rears its ugly head.
  • Speed - we thought it important to speed up the game. It makes for a more hectic process of decision making and requires more skill.
  • Alerts - happy to hear that they are well received.
  • Training mode - is that the season/career one? If so, yes I agree. Providing the gamer with another opportunity to 'manage' the development of players was important to us.

And now the many, many cons...

  • Menu look n' feel - that's ok, it's not going to be everyones cup of tea. I personally found the old ones visually boring but that's my opinion. The title music had restrictions to its use - one of which was that it was for the intro only. The more we use it, the more it costs us. The music we use was made in-house.
  • Team Profiles - that should read GF's played, not Premierships. The premierships info is displayed below where it says 'flags'. I can see where that bad title caused confusion.
  • Gameplay (your reference to the handball in particular) - it's very much like the tackles in that you must face the guy you want to handball to.
  • Umpiring - are you referring to the holding the ball rule? The rules, much like the stats, are best suited to 10 minute quarters. That's where the game time/real time data 'clicks'.
  • Congested/Contested Action - as you may have read in another post the smothers are the reason for more contested football. We wanted it that way so we could create that scenario. The holding the ball rule still has some random aspects to it that will at times see 7/10 congested situations resulting in a free kick and other times a 7/10 ratio for the ball-up.
  • Match-up Screen Bug - sure it's annoying for the real in-depth player comparisons but it doesn't affect the team setup from front-end to in-game which is important to remember.
  • Player kick bar - player kicking distances vary and I've said for a long time now that you'll need to get a feel for your players by playing the game a fair bit. In the early days I recommend hitting players who have green indicators until you're sure of the kicking distance of your player and what the yellow area on the bar represents.
  • The old play - you will not be able to do that everytime like the other versions of the game. In fact it's been a while since I have managed to do it. You will still occasionally be able to do it but they also do that in real life (believe it or not).
  • Snap mark - that could be an animation system problem but it's only visual. The player has legitimately marked it as far as the code is concerned.
  • No Input marks - I don't see the problem in one of your AI guys taking a mark in your pack mark? Surely that's the same as laying a shepherd for you as you carry the ball? I personally like the idea of getting some assistance on the field. That could just be me though.
  • Reaction time - are you referring to the kicking motion or everything in general? I can only refer to my own experience in playing the game over time when I say that I have been able to adapt to the nature of the gameplay and are now quite proficient in my movement of the ball up the field.
  • Sound - not my area but I'll pass on the comments. Happy to hear suggestions for any area of the game.
  • Player Ranking system - read my comments in previous posts. I reckon you're a tad harsh there.

Disappointed to hear you have returned the game so soon, especially after my repeated comments that the game takes a while to work with you but each to their own in the end. You'll note that others have made reference to their perceived lack of depth/change to the game and how that changed after playing the game for a length of time. I hope my reply has gone some way to answering your questions about the game. Thanks for the feedback - most welcome and noted for future reference. :thumbsu:

FH

Been away recently. Pros and cons weighing up in my mind. I care much more about gameplay then menus and drafts. And that sounds good.

BTW FH I think you should be the commended on the way you have answered and replied to everyone, despite the often negative comments.

Your work is much appreciated.

Ok, can someone outline what you can and can't do with the Player Editor please?

For example in a career mode could you allow each side to keep their 'regulation' draftees and edit the gun players somehow back to their original clubs - either by specifying which club they play for, or by fiddling with their data and abilities and then changing names and faces?

In other words, is there any workable way around the unrealistic drafts? If there is, I'm off to get a copy.

I have a problem with the player ranking system. Just finished hawks vs brisbane and because Franklin was stuffed and had no energy left in the last term i replaced him with Dowler and then the lions chb which was Merret gets the number 1 ranked player because dowler only had 1 or 2 touches, Merret only had 3 touches. Surely, Mitchell with 11 touches or Roughead with 6 goals would be the number 1 ranked player????

Ha Fiery Hawk lol! i just downloaded the game:cool: as im yet to play it because i have to go out for dinner. But when i come back at about 9 i will be playing it for hours:D

Buy the game like the majority of other people!!!!! IR Gurus is not a big company like EA SPORTS etc, they put alot of effort into making a game to please the fans atleast shell out and pay for the game!!!!!

Thats absolutely wrong. They've worked hard on this game and people go out and download it to rip them off, and then rub it in peoples faces.
Its not that expensive, go out and buy it:thumbsdown:

That's great to hear. That was my experience too. I really appreciate it that the game is now more contested.

I'll keep repeating myself but...take the time to explore the game guys...you'll see there is so much more to it this year.

I hope it bombs pal, that fact IR Gurus still have the rights to produce these games is very disappointing to hear.

Stop blaming time constraints for all the bugs/problems etc.

You still expect people to pay $60.00 or more for a yearly tweak, what a scam.

Have you played the game yet????
It's been on here for ages that the highest priority is the gameplay...
Yeah, we'd like to have a perfect management mode....but it just took a back seat to the higher priority.

If you don't like it, then just play season mode (not career).

Stop having a go you moron, you haven't played the game and all you have heard is talk about what it is like, and also when you can create a game that is even remotley as good as this I will pay $1000 for it as you seem to think you could make it better, but you aren't going to make one because you are a loser.
