I was priveleged last night to witness 2 great teams, play a great game.
Brisbanes great team game, was overcome by the St Kilda team of stars.
It did highlight the need for a traditional rover for the crows, what great performances by Power, and Ball. We have not had someone of that ilk since Liptak, and we sorely need a pacey rover, in the traditional sense.
The game also hilited our need for good, big, marking talls, as until we do, we will be a long way of matching these two teams.
The Gehrig/Michael duel - fantastic
The Brown pack marking on his chest - fantastic.
The Leppisch/Reiwoldt duel - fantastic
Sadly we have no KPP who are anywhere near the quality, speed and strength of these guys.
The benchmark has well and truly been set.

Yes - a great game - and certainly it would appear these two sides are benchmarking things for 2004 - and - food for thought for those who considered the Saints might eventually feel the weekin/weekout pressure and be found wanting later - I guess it still could be true and they have more challenges ahead, but they are looming as a top 2 side.

I think though they did really well in the corresponding match last year- which maybe suggests they have what it takes to counter the Lions in Melbourne.

Brisbane do have a great team game but you'd have to say there are number of stars in their team as well, more established than the emerging stars of the Saints, who themselves play an excellent team game, and were prepared to take them on as they had done with all other sides this year.

BUT - do we need 4 goal umpires!! ?

AND - if you tipped Lions, Hawks and Roos you'd be considering yourself having walked under a ladder to avoid a black cat!

[I only got the Saints out of those 3]

All in all after 5 matches, you could say it has been a great round, one that would please the AFL in terms of closeness and results.

Can't argue with a word you've said above.

Teams that have a strong classy spine and natural on-ballers rather than man-made ones have a huge advantage over other teams. As you said, it was a privilege and a pleasure to watch two such teams playing each other in that game.

We've got a way to go before we're at that level.
