This is what is wrong with footy in canberra, for two days all you have talked about is money.:thumbsd::thumbsd:

Give me Canberra District Footy any day of the week. At least you know the bloke beside you is there because he wants to be.

This topic was raised and it opened up a discussion which is what this thread is all about so whats your problem.

We have had complaints for being boring and predictable and now when a new subject is brought to the table you chime in.

If you dont like the topic dont respond to it. Or here is something from left field, try starting a topic.

Besides you have just come on for the very first time so maybe you should go back to page 1 and read all the posts before having a dig.

Or stick to the other threads....Pretty simple really.

Pretty sure the guy getting paid wants to be there also?? Footballers love to play footy (funny that) and the pay is a bonus.

Getting paid for something you enjoy and are good at.....what a crime!

Spot the "nuff nuff" who has never been good enough to get coin:rolleyes:

Number 34 we waited all this time for that .What did ainslie offer you two years ago and why didnt you take it.?

My old mate southcab good to hear from you. despite what you may of heard the money was not that much however with the cost of living in canberra it all helps.
I earn money working a normal job 9-5 and I play footy on the weekend for the same reason I played when I was 8 for the enjoyment.
If I was really anygood I would of pulled the boots on at Manuka on Sunday. Whats the point of trying to be the best of the blokes (like ABH) who are not good enough.

34 i guess a lot of it comes down to attitude as well and yours seems to be a little defeatous perhaps thats why you lost the last cricket grand final too.Im thinking just because you feel that way it dosn,t give you the rite to attack those who differ from you.Tell the truth about the tri coulors!!!

Point taken SC. The cash was nothing like ABH would be getting.

I just think the time on this thread could be better spent talking about how Footy in Canberra can be improved in general not who has the most cash.

ABH you might be able to come up with a few ideas on how to attarct more umpires to the game. I was at a CD game on the weekend that had 2 officials for 2 games, there was no boundry umps or goal umps, they had to get 2 blokes from the side line to stand in the goals and wave JUMPERS.
Then again you might not be interested on what happens to the blokes that play below you.

Gee #34, you have a few assumptions about me dont you?? Do you even no me at all or are you making your accusations on hear say?? My guess is you haven't a clue who you are refering to, as I stated earlier, go back to page one as I make it pretty obvious who i am and most on this thread already know.

Do you think I get paid to do what I do at the footy club?? I along with many others at all clubs stay involved as they want to give something back and feel they can make a difference without getting paid. They enjoy being around the footy club as it is an enviroment that money cant buy!! We are volunteers.

You would be surprised at how much/little I received as a player as I can state as a fact that I know back in 94 when I first arrived there were Ainslie boys getting 4 and 5 times more than I was on. I never came to the ACT for cash. I was actually offered more money to stay in SA but circumstances back home convinced me it was time to move away for awhile. Little did I know I would be here for 15 years. Another fact is I only asked for a minor increase in pay twice throughout my Qbn career. Once after I kicked the ton in 94 and again after 98 when I kicked 97 in the premiership year so I definately wasn't playing for the cash!! If I didnt have an outstanding season I felt I had no right to ask for anything more than I was on....I had opportunities to get "BIG" cash from Ainslie as Coxie was keen for me to come over but he knew where my loyalties were and that the bond with the Tigers was never going to be broken. Respect to him as he never pressed the issue, he just made it known that he would love to have me over.

As far as not worrying about those below.....I dont even play anymore so I am below them all. I love my footy which is why I have stayed involved and if Im able to assist and have the time required I will do what ever I can.

ABH you are spot on I have no idea who you are, however you are the one who got on your high horse after my original comment. You then went on to make comment on my football ability with out knowing me.

You have however raised a couple of points, why did you think that you had to go and ask your club for more money after having a good year, why is it not enough to wear your clubs jumper with pride and do your best for your mate next to you.
Please tell me if the club had of said no what would you have done??

Toodogs were you been??

Absolutely flat out at work mate.... Haven't enjoyed the Yass sunset for about two weeks now..:(
Good to see you blokes playing well and taking some form into the finals.
Hopefully I'll get to watch the boys play some finals footy.

If I got on my high horse its because you came on here for the very first time and all you could do was criticise. Apologies for that and also for attacking your football ability.

If you have a good year at work do you not get a salary review upon the end of financial year??

If a club recruits someone from interstate then they have declared that they want them, not the other way round.

If the Tigers had said no then nothing would have changed. But they were happy with the request and so was I therefore continueing the great relationship.:thumbsu: Besides my request was not unreasonable and they knew that.

Besides all that rubbish... you didn't need a significant pay rise 'cause the club got you a job with CUB:thumbsu::thumbsu:

I still hate you for having the best job in Canberra ya b@st@rd..:D

Not true TD.

I asked the club if they would forward my resume to then boss of CUB ACT Greg Montgomery, which they did.

I was the one who had to sit thru 3 seperate interviews not the club.

Truth be told the club would have prefered me to not work for CUB for obvious reasons so I'm afraid you have been incorrectly informed.

Now only top shelf will do at Jack Daniels.....Old number 7:thumbsu:

This may sound bias coming from the poorer club in the comp. i am all for clubs playing players as the footy season requires a fair bit of sacrificing (time and money). The problem i have with clubs is the amount of recruits that are being bought into the AFL Canberra environment. The rep team was an example of this with 1/3 (if that) of the squad being of ACT upbringing. I understand that recruits are apart of the game as clubs need to fill holes and positions + people moving interstate ect. But what I think is wrong is when 16/18/2’s players work towards/look forward to playing senior footy and their club then goes and recruits and player that will take their spot (and spend a heap in the process). I would much rather the thousands and thousands of dollars to be spend on development in schools and at the u/13-18 level. Thoughts?

Could not agree more. Nothing wrong with club helping with cash for fuel or things like income protection, the problem lies with the improts and the amount of money going to them only to take up a 'better offer" next year.

Is it time they look at having a cap on imports were a club gets a certin amount of points i.e 1000 from there locals attarct nothing and each import from outside the area may be worth 150 points and blokes from other clubs in the same league are worth 100???

SS/NO 34 Both ideas have merit but both are also dangerous to the current game givin the swans involvment in our comp we dont need to go back to where they are dominating every game .16/18 and 2 as mentioned by s boy will still expect some sort of payment and so they should .What needs to happen is a player pool were sides draw from if you are inporting blokes to play say for ainslie and he moves to belco the next year he still an import so the only way outside the current form is to create a talent pool your top are worth x then you have your mid range then you have your rookie,s who can be performance based. There are lots of ways to introduce a different format however there is the goin to be huge opposition to change one thing is for sure though if actafl dont do something soon it will be 3 or 4 team comp that lasts for 8 weeks max.Who wants to keep playing against the same blokes every second week.If we can bring some evening up amongst clubs we would soon see new teams introduced .Good luck trying to get that passed by the likes of wads, original, and others though .But thats what this thread is all about discusion for the betterment of footy.

I think you need to go back sometimes ABH and read from page one, just so you can remember some of the crap statements you have made. It gets frustrating when you make comments like
"Spot the "nuff nuff" who has never been good enough to get coin:rolleyes:"
but then go on to say
"As far as not worrying about those below.....I dont even play anymore so I am below them all." talk about contradicting yourself!!!

You have also claimed that you do not know what clubs spend on players, but in your latest reply you now remember way back to 1994 and know what players from other clubs were on - Too many beers when working at CUB has pickled your memory perhaps???

Credit to you though for your volunteer work, I am sure you are appreciated by your club. After just having a go at you I dont want to sound like I am p!ssing in your pocket, but with #34's idea of a points system (or similar) for recruits, I think clubs should get points for retaining recruits, especially after 100 games/5 seasons and beyond, or whatever. We know all clubs have these stalwards who are tops to be around and generally make their club (and the league) a better place.

I admit though this points type system would be difficult to set up. Something like you are only allowed to have say 150pts on your list of 50. local juniors (meet some sort of requirements of years as a registered junior) get 0. NSW/ACT recruits worth 5pts. Vic/SANFL/WAFL recruits worth 10pts. Immediately ex AFL 15pts. If a recruit plays for 5 years they then are worth zero too. Numbers are purely for example - This would need further consultation/work.

I am not too sure how closely audited a salary cap would be, or how easy it would be to police by AFL Canberra officials. At least the points system way you simply look at where the clearances come from.
