If you want to listen to the footy via radio on your iPhone get the app TUNEIN RADIO. Honestly one of the best apps and well worth the $2.49.

It probably has every possible radio station in the world including internet stations.

The AFL app is well overpriced, the video content will just be highlights so it's not really worth it. If it had live streaming then that's another story.

just got this today, wondering if it wastes much data..?

Bullshit like this is why people pirate movies, games and apps.

What's absolutely astonishing here is the AFL's genuine failure to understand the internet and new media generally. One can only assume that Telstra must be misleading them with their advice and understanding. In 10 years time, it will be the online rights that will exceed the TV rights in value, however they're unlikely to remotely seize any of that if still shackled to Telstra.

I don't know where to start on Telstra. They're so comprehensibly bad at managing content it's embarrassing - and I can't believe the AFL could possibly be aware of the damage it's doing.

As much as the AFL is compromised by Telstra, Telstra is equally compromised by Microsoft. The second rate technology, the strategy and the execution has their fingerprints all over this, not to mention that executive suite are all ex-softies or heading to Seattle after the long-term supplier contracts have been stitched up their Overlord's favour.

Unless the AFL gets a savvy tech-head with an independent background, it's likely to muddle its way through this huge opportunity that's opening up. The world is going mobile, pronto! And to be honest Microsoft and Telstra are simply years and years behind where they should be compared to Apple and Google.

The AFL should have a peerless iPhone application much like the Major League Baseball's app. To charge $72 per year is just outrageous for what is essentially Gameday but worse. Simply NFI. As an overseas AFL fan, time and time again they just make me feel incredibly unwelcome. Why we can't stream games in this day and age online at a professional level is also beyond me. Instead, the AFL and Telstra are just using their digital assets to leverage a lock-in scheme that attempts to milk their customer base dry for the poorest experience.

Don't get me wrong, thousands of people worldwide are happy to pay good money for a good experience that just works every time. Stream live games integrated with excellent live stats. Anytime, anywhere. NOT 2nd quarter highlights available halfway through the final quarter that are so compressed you can't make the players out. NOT streams that are simply a vehicle to sign you up to BigPond, if you manage to connect at all. NOT technologies that rely on custom plugins like Silverlight. But that's just a pipe dream. Unfortunately the strategy and execution has been broken for so long now, that nearly all trust has been eroded.

Lazy, cheap and inept. :(

I feel like standing and applauding.

Please forward that to the AFL/Telstra. :thumbsu:

Amen..:thumbsu::thumbsu:
It's like the AFL is being run by Steve Ballmer directly.

MLB At-Bat is outstanding, well worth the $20 odd it costs and you get live audio for every game, free live video of a couple of games a day and you can pay $2 to watch any other game live.

'Aussie Rules LIVE' is free and does the job.
- Live Scores
- Live text commentary for all games
- Live goalkickers
- Live ladder updates
- Shake the phone for live score updates.
- Full fixture and individual team fixtures.
- Latest team news via Herald Sun
- Previous round scores and goalkickers
- Compare results, ladder and head to head from apst seasons
- One touch acces to your favourite team

Free>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> $6 per month.

I bought this last year when it was $3.99 once off and it was worth it in every way. Now its free!!

I hope the AFL official app gets a rating of 1 star to show them how stupid they are.

I must be the only person here that has actually bought the app. It has a similar interface to the 2009 finals app the AFL released, and is simple to use. Once you've selected your team, your team's logo appears as an icon button to access your team news, player stats, video etc.

But the streaming video is still of an extremely poor quality (even on an iPhone 3GS it is near unwatchable), there is Bigpond branding all over the app and the news is direct from the AFL/club sites (this isn't a surprise, but there are apps where you can access sports news from a variety of different sources instead of just one).

Obviously the real advantage of the app will be the live Dream Team scores and score updates during the season, but I fail to see how this will justify the $$ you have to spend on it when as others have pointed out it is easy to use Dream Team on Safari and there are a number of apps that provide live score updates.

A one off $5.99 fee would be perfectly justified, but $5.99 per month is ridiculous and I won't continue renewing the app throughout the season. I will be overseas for all of May and may subscribe for that month, but I don't see why those at home would need the app.

I recently paid $3.99 for an unofficial Premier League app that is 1000 times better than the official AFL app... the EPL one features push notifications regarding your favourite team, live score updates (including play by play text commentary), news from a variety of UK sources and even a comprehensive history section for each club. It's nice to dream of something that simple, effective and affordable for the AFL fan.

What's it called? I use the ESPN app for Premier League news (as well as simply having timesonline.co.uk as a saved icon) which is pretty decent and gives you live updates and the like, but wouldn't say no to buying an official PL one.

Kudos to whoever said Aussie Rules LIVE, used that last year, rules, it's still in transition mode atm I think though.

Anyone got ‘Flick footy’:thumbsu:

It’s in the ‘games’ category in the top free section. Better than Flick cricket

Frustrates the hell outta me. The ball doesn't move with the wind like it should. It more moves in the first 5 meters after you kick it. Should have physics like paper toss and fade away more the further it goes.

That being said its free, and it entertained me for 45 mins during a linux install :D

There's two of these, one called "Flickkick Aussie Rules" and "Footy Flick". The first one is more realistic than the second, but both get boring after about 10 games.
