Got a feeling you guys may go with Adams or Mitch Brown early.

It is an interesting problem for us... Will be keen to see exactly what strategy we take. Bonts and Stringer were both seen as reaches at the time, so we have a bit of faith in our recruiters....

Stringer was rated a top 5 pick all year lol nice try though and Bonts wasn't that much of a reach was rated highly by recruiters all year and would have gone to the Lions at 7 if you guys didn't jump first

Great call.

Grab Brown as a ready to go swing man then Skinner or B McKay if available, or a bid on Himmelberg. Worst case they get someone like Dunkley, Gresham, Fiorini etc and still have a very solid draft.

Rioli for WCE doesn't bode well for Murray Newman and Josh Hill. Think Ryan Clarke is the man here but, ticks all the boxes for me and I've been keen on him for a while now.

Collingwood wanted him at 6 also.

Stringer was rated highly, very highly - pre-injury. There was some discussion about whether or not he would slip later down the draft order as he only played a few games at the tail end of his draft year. Certainly not in most peoples top 5.

Bontempelli was a late climber in the draft order. Not in the top 10 midway through the year, but there are rumours that the Pies were keen with their first selection that year. Didn't hear the rumours about the Lions being keen, only heard about Collingwood.

Bontempelli is in there, but at 18th on the CD assessment. Interestingly he is in the AFL mid year assessment of the top 20, which places him higher than I thought.

This is the AFL phantom draft

Go Harrison Himmelberg instead? Can't see why essendon wouldn't match with their first pick, forcing gws to use up a bit more of their points leaving you to grab him. a bit more mobile than t boyd be a nice tandem in future with stringer there also.
Wasn't there a rumour that he's likely to be bid on with an early 20s pick?
Could well be us, although I think GWS have hoarded enough points to take all their academy kids.

A lot of phantoms from that year had Stringer in the teens, with Geelong thinking they were a chance that he could slip to them

Well by the time the bids are matched for hopper, Kennedy, keays and hipwood the dogs picks will be mid 20s. Our later picks would've jumped up the order once Brisbane, us and Sydney spend their picks so we can easily match Himmelberg. We will only go into deficit if he is bid on in the top 15 which he won't as their are much better prospects earlier on

Which is a concern to me about the positioning of our picks.

We honestly do not need more midfield depth. I would potentially trade/swap for a little more pace in there, but we didn't lack for moving the ball quickly this year and next year will be no different. From our finals loss we have Liberatore, Stevens, JJ, Hrovat, McLean, Webb, Suckling to come into our midfield rotations (although some play primarily different roles) plus a few draftees from last year who have barely played ...

Are you guys going to go for Marcus Adams?

I honestly don't know mate. I'm not the greatest draft watcher, more looking at the bigger picture on list management. He's been linked to us a few times by people, but that could just be from the "He's tall, therefore the Dogs are keen" school of thought...

Whats wrong with balic? A few phantoms have us taking him with 13.
I think Balic is the best of the mids who are likely to be available at our second pick. Really hope we don't pick Milera over Burton with our first pick. Don't think we should draft both of them.

Yeah i agree burton or mckay with pick 9 hopefully some how francis but highly doubt it. We don't need milera just traded in 3 of his type.

Not a fan to put it simply. Of all the top end mids, he's probably the slowest to make decisions, just a fraction slower than most of the others. He's smooth and he's not stupid but you can see the cogs turning sometimes. Skills moderate. Good onfield leader and presence but I think we can do better with 9 and 13. Hoping for at least one of the SA gun 3 in Francis, Milera or Burton.
