Few points.

1. I think there is actually some merit in having some ambassadorial role up on the Gold Coast and a player like Tom Lynch fits the mould you want for that role talent wise, personality wise probably not so much.

2. “We would never pay a guy in advance,” McLachlan told Fox Footy’s On The Couch......... Well of course you wouldn't pay ambassadorial payments to someone who may not be at the club, you need some guarantee that they will remain in that market for the long term, you know so you actually see a return on those payments? thats the goal right?. HOWEVER slipping this tempter in there as a conditional offer stinks of shit, cant believe this bloke is running the league, the level of professionalism is extraordinarily poor.

3. Third, final and most important point... stop treating us like idiots, if the AFL wants to come out and endorse Tom Lynch staying at Gold Coast I think you will find most fans would be accepting of that and actually have respect for that decision... Dressing it up as ambassadorial payments in some really poor attempt to appear to remain impartial is pathetic and most fans see right through it.

I don't like it but Gold Coast is the proverbial frog in water being slowly brought to boil. I hope they can turn it around but I cant see it happening.

I cant be the only one who is embarrassed that this guy is running our league? Read this gem...
If he re-signed with the Suns and he’s the right guy to be an ambassador on the Gold Coast and Queensland, we’d do that. And he’s the type of guy who would. But we would never do a deal in advance.
Well you wouldnt do a deal in advance yet you've just confirmed that you will do the deal at a later stage if Tom Lynch signs a contract with the Suns? Guess what you muppet, thats dealing in advance. :drunk:

ps it was a nice overdue and much needed melt at the AFL.

Send him to North Korea to negotiate with Kim Jong Un.

Honestly what on earth does a football club need an 'ambassador' for?

For this exact reason - so the AFL can add payments to clubs they are bankrolling (GWS,GC) to try and avoid them blowing up and losing all the cash they 'invested' into them. It used to be Sydney, now the GC are knocking on heavens door and Gil is coming to the rescue.

If the eagles are allowed to scam a chunk of NicNat's salary to be paid by the AFL to be an ambassador to Perth's huge Fijian population then anything seems fair.
He's an AFL multicultural ambassador. Hard to think of many better in the game to do it either.

It is actually to the leagues benefit for prominent players to have roles other than just playing. Leveraging the popularity of your most important asset is simply good business, and the AFLPA isn't going to allow activities beyond the normal scope of a contract to be done for free.

It's not Gold Coast. It's any struggling club that isn't St Kilda and Bulldogs. They for some reason are abandoned by the AFL and left to die.

Would you like to see how much additional AFL financial assistance has been handed to the Bulldogs, North and Saints over every other club since 2000?

Do we want to have this argument again? How much is compensation as opposed to direct financial assistance like e.g the afl bailing out Melbourne and paying for their coach and CEO?

Ill have this argument every year you get additional assistance and people refuse to accept that GWS and Gold Coast are newly established teams needing support.
