All good to spend all the money in the world on two areas of Australia that have little to no interest in AFL. However, the good old AFL will find every excuse not to send a team to Tasmania where the $$$ they have spent on GC would not have gone to waste. Yes, there may only be about 250,000 people in Tasmania that have an interest in AFL but that is a hell of a lot more than the 7 people that follow Gold Coast.

How many failed franchises do they need to know that Gold Coasts population can't support any sports team outside NRL because the population is too dynamic.

Because demographic geeks advise the AFL relentlessly that Gold Coast is the key growth population corridor in the nation

The AFL want to allow Gold Coast to pay Tom Lynch as an ambassador to keep him from leaving.

Why can't other teams get that perk?

I think it is a disgrace.

I thought all clubs get ambassador payments but the amounts are unknown because they are outside the salary cap.

Nic Nat got a couple of hundred thousand didnt he?

You would hope Buddy gets none because he does nothing for the game outside of playing.

Ah whatever

Collingwood used The Footy Show to pay Cloke more - Carlton/Visy Judd is well known

Seems apparent that the Costa empire is making up the short fall (and some) between Adelaide and Geelong's offer for Dangerfield

The Footy Show even paid $50k to announce Martin re-signed - pretty comfortable in saying if he didn't playbfor Richmond that doesnt happen

Ambassador payments are meant to be for work in the community. Buddy doesnt do that.

May as well say WC Kennedy gets some money or Ben Brown gets money or Danniher gets money... because they sell memberships.

How about Dusty. I bet he sells even more memberships than Buddy. Give him some cash. Dare say he is about as active outside football as Buddy.

More drivel again 0 ... promoting the game is what Buddy & Jesinta do in spades just by being there.

It is actually to the leagues benefit for prominent players to have roles other than just playing. Leveraging the popularity of your most important asset is simply good business, and the AFLPA isn't going to allow activities beyond the normal scope of a contract to be done for free.
I don't think anyone has a problem with this per se but all those payments should go in the main salary cap and clubs trying to use these deals to get around the cap needs to be policed much harder. Otherwise there is not much point having a salary cap.

What the hell kind of competition are you running when the operating body is working in favour of one club over another. Absolutely no integrity or equalisation when the AFL is intervening in aiding one club over another in a potential legitimate trade.
Your club got Treloars girlfriend a job as well as Treloar in the media and youre complaining about ambassador payments? Haha

This isn't any different to what almost every other club does. The only difference is the AFL were talking about it. Ambassador payments and other things of that ilk aren't a secret they're public knowledge as others have said.

All the AFL really said was that Tom Lynch would be a good ambassador for football on the Gold Coast, but they won't pay him for that unless he stays. What exactly is controversial about that? Why pay for an ambassador who'll leave 12 months later?
