Yer, i cant see Johnstone getting enough gametime in the Brisbane midfield with proven players such as power, black, lappin, adcock, etc who have already cemented their spots in the team.at this stage i won't be picking johnstone.

He is also very inconsistant.
Yeah so we'd really trade for Travis Johnstone when he is 27 for a #10 draft pick and then not give him game time. Wake up to yourself mate.

Fairley thinks mediocre players can become superstars.
There is a reason he was traded.
Melbourne won out of that trade.
I think mediocre players can become superstars? What about all the ****wits on bigfooty who talk up players i have never even heard of like they are the next Chris Judd.
Totally agree.2006 - 22g @ 91.27
2007 - 15g @ 77.26
@ $304k
Looking at those stats I can't see why he wouldn't at least match the 2006 figures but I guess that will largely depend on his form and how he is used at Brisbane. The other question will be, are there better option at that price?

Totally agree.
Lethal would not have picked him up if he wasn't planning to play him, but how will he be used? I think maybe Melbourne and Brisbane might have both been winners here. He obviously wasn't feeling it at Melbourne anymore for whatever reason and a change of this magnitude could be just the thing he needs. I'll be keeping an eye on him.
And by the way, Westhoff is the next Chris Judd.
Just kidding![]()
With all due respect I think your heart may be ruling your head. I put Hall in the same category as Neitz, Gehrig and Tredrea. Too old, too battle scarred and never likely to perform at their career best again. Why take a chance on an old, worn out body just because of a low price? You're better off going with a younger player that shows signs of moving into their career's shining years.
I had Rischitelli last year and he averaged in the mid 70's so IF Johnstone can recapture his 06 form and IF he gets the same game time as Rischitelli and IF the price is right he would be worth looking at.Yer i wasnt debating whether or not he was going to get a game but he would probably get the same game time as rischitelli (about 75%) which would affect his DT score. But if you think he can recapture his 2006BF form then his gametime wont be an issue.
I don't see what the difference is between Tredrea, Gehrig and Neitz. How can you see a similarity between one and not the other two to Hall (all three are the "go to men" when they are playing)?Surely you can be comparing Hall with Gehrig and Neitz? That's just ridiculous. I can see the comparisons with Tredrea but surely not the other two. Hall is the Swans go to man and if his body can stand up, and at that price, I will pick him anyday over anyone else in that price category.
Last year he had a nightmare averaging only 68. Prior to that he averaged 91, 91, and 88. He's proven performer and as I said if he can get over his problems of '07 we can expect him to score well.

Three big IFs there but having a good look at him in the NAB would be a worthwhile exercise I think.
. Any1 herd anything about him or other port boys?Do ya think there is any chance that Johnstone will be moved to another position to allow him more game time? I think that's the main thing I'm reluctant with him entering a club with an already established midfield. Also is anyone apprehensive on P. Burgoyne and his hamstring. I'll never 4get picking him up thinking he was a good buy and trading him out the next week after he injured it again. Then again that was my idiotic, ill-thought decision. Any1 herd anything about him or other port boys?
As Fairley said, you don't recruit a player like Travis Johnstone and play him off the bench. He'll get game time, don't worry about that. He probably won't play full games in the middle, but he'll still get a lot of the ball between half-back and half-forward.
I'd say that Burgoyne is a must if he is named as a backman, and I think he will be.
Alrite cheers. Was wondering if anybody knew the brownlow medal equivalent winners from the state leagues (providing they are AFL listed players)?

You're saying "if his body can stand up" and I agree with you there but what I'm saying is I don't think his body can.
Not 100%, but I'm pretty sure Brad Symes won the, errr... whatever the SANFL medal is called (I forget).
Hall and Tredrea are around the 30 year old mark whilst Gerhirg and Neitz are 32. Hall and Tredrea up until last year were the gun CHF's in the game along with J. Brown. They both had their worst season last year due to injuries and poor form. Hence, they are quite similar.
Gehrig and Neitz are both FF and very one dimensional in an old fashioned sence. Hence, they are also quite similar also.
I guess there is no definitve answer as to whether Hall's body will stand up in '08. We will just have to wait and see.
Magery Medal I think it's called...
I always thought of Hall as a FF because that's where he usually is named and starts. The only time he seems to play up the ground is when he isn't getting it.Hall and Tredrea are around the 30 year old mark whilst Gerhirg and Neitz are 32. Yep Magarey medal it is however Brad Symes was runner up to James Allen i think from North Adl who won it with 19 votes
. Who is James Allen? Is he on an AFL list?
