I've seen enough gameplay footage to believe that WW have earnt the ability to make a few more of these (provided they improve and don't go backwards, like DBC17 did in some areas).

I think you'd find a lot less people complaining about marking, if they made gameplay a lot less kick to a pack, rinse and repeat.

Ive just seen an article posted online about the game which kind of confirms there is a hate campaign out there to ruin the game.
Lots of people disliking the game doesn't mean there's a hate campaign. It means lots of people dislike the game. Did THPS5 have a hate campaign? Or was it just not very good?

It's terrible. 2017 and that's the best they can come up with lol. PS1 had better graphics.

Tackle fest with clunky game play.

Lol marking, You guys are desperate for an AFL game so excuse a lot and that's fair enough. :)

Funny how when people have an agenda against the game they resort to stupid exaggerations. Yes ps1 had better graphics right? ****ing smh

I think to avoid frustration it's best to just take graphical comparisons from decade old systems to just be shorthand for "the graphics are shit".

Nobody actually thinks the graphics are ps1 level.

Can anyone help me solve my issue;

When I try and go onto community fanhub I always get the message "The AFL Fanhub servers are currently unavailable. Please try again later." Any idea how to fix?

Anyone else getting sick of the following things:

  • Winning 90% of hitouts
  • Losing 90% of marking contests
  • "Umpire has the ball. Ready for the centre bounce" whenever you look at the player of the match votes
  • 0 clangers in the stats sheet for the AI every single game
  • The AI being wildly inaccurate every single game
  • Having no audible cue to know whether a kick is not 15, play on

Haven't had a chance to play this game myself (thanks to it being sold out from every store I've been to) but comparing what I've seen in videos to Fifa17 this looks like a game made on a real budget.

Yeah there is enough of these things to make me hold off on starting a season until a patch fixes them.

The booklet says the game has a production team of 16 plus 5 animators and 6 designers.

2K and FIFA have teams in the hundreds.

QF v Adelaide

61 - 39

They started strong, kicked 2 goals 1 in the first quarter. I only kicked 2 goals to respond. They kicked another goal in the second quarter, but I began my charge and started to control the game. They made mini come backs in the third and fourth.... but I kicked away to win the game.

PF v Geelong

Geelong came out very aggressive and hit an early lead. But they had trouble converting (7 straight misses before finally finding some accuracy and then scoring some more to get a 25 point lead). Hawthorn finally got on the scoreboard with a missed shot at goal by Gunston, Hawthorn swooped on a poor kick out by Geelong and scored right on quarter time.
Second quarter was hotly contested, Hawthorn kicked a goal, before Geelong showed their intent and scored two goals in a row. Hawthorn scored one more goal near the end of the half, Geelong had a last ditch effort to extend the lead going into half time with a shot at goal on the siren, which sailed left for a behind.

In the premiership quarter Hawthorn made their move with strong attacking flair, Gunston resumed his sharpshooting and kicked another, Roughead and Shiels joined the party. I also had a funny instance where Joel Selwood hit a late hip and shoulder (something the AI rarely has done in all of the matches I've played) and he got reported for his effort haha. Geelong kicked a late goal to give themselves some breathing space.... they had another late shot attempt with a mark as the siren sounded but they failed to convert.

Low scoring final quarter, after a Shiels goal, Roughead put the Hawks in the lead with less than 2 minutes remaining. Zac smith marked the ball just beyond the 50m line, a kick to win the game after the final siren. He didn't make the distance (ball landed just before the goal square). Hawthorn won 56 - 51..... 11 scoring shots to 16.... bad kicking is bad football!

GF vs Eagles

Bad kicking is bad football, I won by 17 points. If the Eagles kicked accurately they should have won by 3 goals. I basically piled on goal after goal in the first three quarters, while the Eagles piled on point after point with the occasional goal. But they did come alive in the last quarter and gradually claw back from 33 points down. Before I finally regained composure and kicked a few goals to put a buffer on them.

Hawthorn AFL Evolution premiers :D.

Average ending (quick clip of the players posing with the cup at the end of the match), but liked the end song (our old favourite from AFL Live hehehe).

Collingwood are dirty scum.

Can't get a disposal as a team because every time Hanners or Mills gets the ball they get flattened and dispossessed by Grundy or Pendlebury. They fall down on their ass and the ball conveniently goes straight to Collingwood players.

Sixteen ? So basically an indie game I wasn't expecting them to match it with a large publisher like EA but I did expect more on the current hardware. When I saw the first few videos to this game I really felt a little deflated as it reminded me of the older AFL games that I played years ago.

Marking has a bit of a learning curve but like others have said it's quite good once you get.. It's not all about timing, bumping plays a huge role - you can use the right thumbstick to get a better position and then your timing doesn't really matter. Also the person at the front will usually take the mark regardless of timing, in which in this case is better to try and spoil I think. Obviously you can time it perfectly but if your player is too short or has poor marking stats it will probably go to the other person anyway.

I don't think it really needs to be changed, the people complaining about marking haven't played enough to learn it and it's just a matter of skill level. If you get easy marks in 1v1 contests all the way up the ground it defeats the purpose of kicking to a lead or looking for the tall option.

I think tackling and bumping should be slowed down a bit or made a bit harder to land as i feel it's a bit of a tacklefest at the moment which makes it hard to find space and to get kicks and handball away before being tackled. There are too many bodies being thrown everywhere at the moment and just feels like the players are on steroids and just makes for a lot of stoppages and free kicks.

Also if they can patch the commentary to correctly announce each player as well as fix extremely short kicks being paid a mark would be nice. The other thing is the play on advantage which seems like we have no control and just getting called to play on when the AI picks up the ball. Otherwise it is a pretty decent game with all of the core aspects of AFL in there. There hasn't been an AFL game before that has done this.

The marking is pretty easy to get used to, the game is great imo

I've played it for the past few days but sorry to say I've just returned it. For the price it is not worth it. Marking has completely ruined the game. Probably would of been ok if it wasn't for that. Play on medium and you get beaten every time in a marking contest. Should of just kept the same marking as previous versions. If they fix it down the track then I'll consider getting it but right now it's has horrible controls and not worth $79.

I beat the AA team by 4 goals on Medium so it's time to bump up the difficulty I think!

I forgot to check how many marks I ended up with but I completed the match objective to take 18, so it was a decent number.

Still laughing at the people who returned the game because marking has a learning curve that can't be mastered in an afternoon. CoD generation.

To me this is the game that AFL Live 2 should have been. Wicked Witch are on the right track, just a few years behind

After spending 8 hours so far with the game, I can say I don't hate it but it's just not good enough. My problems with the game so far are:
Marking
commentary which doesn't flow and sounds like it's recorded from a sound board
The my pro coach mode which is the barest of bones mode. Premiership coach is a good example of how to do that mode in an AFL game. The goals set by the board in this mode a rediclous. Why are the Brisbane lions goal to make the 8.
Lack of tracking of career stats/awards is annoying.
Stats for players during a match seem low. When I sim a 20 min game how can a player with 14 disposals have the most disposals during a game.
The AI are dumb. How can the opposition miss goal after goal in the goal square?

I have other problems but these are the major ones that need to be fixed by the next one. Honestly graphics are the lowest thing I worrie about in this game.
