Just wanted to point out that Steam reviews are becoming quite negative, now, personally speaking, i enjoy the game for the most part...

For those wanting to thumbs down the game on steam, keep in mind that if you want future iterations and future updates then simply panning the game without full context of a fair analysis means that some support from fans/people is required.

Same goes for FB comments, if you just want the same cycles of new games from scratch repeated every four/five years then keep not supporting the game...

Same crap occurred with AFL Live 1 & 2...

At least in Evolution you finally have a game that does more than any other AFL game, keep that in mind before panning it publicly...

If the ultimate goal is that you want EA to make it, then even if that is the case, it's a 5-10 year wait and they won't make it. So it's most likely going to be WW or BA making it and it's another big wait for an entirely new game that people will find something to dislike about anyway..

My point is that if you want updates and progressive improvements of an AFL game, then people need to be supporting it not panning it over marginal issues or stuff that can be fixed in patches.

A question for anyone who has Evolution on PC: Can you now switch any current players' jumper numbers? Not a big deal but since they included boot/body strapping editing on them, why not number changes?

I think Zac Merrett has #20 in-game as well, has this been fixed?

Ta

Not sure on editing jumper numbers, but Merrett is wearing 7 on pc!

Just posted a positive review. I enjoy it a lot also

I wanted to post a review a few days ago (essentially borrowing my thoughts from the past 2 months from the Xbox version in this thread), but holding off until I rack up a few more hours of game time on my profile so that people don't auto assume I am a Wicked Witch shill.

I noticed before Steam downloaded an update to it when I logged in. Might have been the same as the other day ? (sometimes red-ownloads the same update for some reason). The game seems to jitter a bit around the half forward line for some reason (didn't do this when I played it days ago!).

Hopefully people experiment with the sliders to help improve the experience for them. I mucked around with the kicking power attribute, need to find the happy medium where the ball sails through the goals a bit more realistically. I've got the ball sailing over the goal posts with some kicks now (as opposed to the ball barely looking airborne when it crosses the goal line after a long kick.

I'm able to capture videos once again, might set up a youtube account and start posting highlights at some stage.

I set up 2 Hawthorn v Sydney AI vs AI matches on Legend 10 minute quarters. One was a high scoring match that had Sydney dominate the first quarter, but Hawthorn over powered them for the rest of the game. The second game was low scoring (until the final quarter), Sydney controlled the first half, but Hawthorn had a fight back in the third quarter. Sydney wound up outscoring Hawthorn in the final quarter.... but Hawthorn still held on to win.

Set up another AI v AI contest with Hawthorn v Geelong, Geelong had Hawthorn's measure in the first half.... Hawthorn kicked 4 goals to be 1 point down at the final quarter. They hit the front with less than 5 minutes on the clock, ball kept rebounding back and forth (Geelong forcing it forward, Hawthorn rebounding to the wing, before Geelong would counter attack back to their forward line). Motlop got the ball ran it to the 50m line, kicked a running torpedo with the siren sounding while the ball sailed through the goal :(. It might have been a video game simulation but I was heart broken Hawthorn lost lol.

^ that's pretty epic programming/AI to get variable but still close and exciting games like that (including come backs!)

Yeah I was amazed and on the edge of my seat. I actually assumed both Sydney and Geelong would be too strong without my influence. The first Sydney game that turned out to be a blow out in Hawthorn's advantage, Sydney were good early on... but Hawthorn steam rolled them.

I was sure Hawthorn was going to hold on and win the Geelong game, the last few seconds the ball spilled out of a contest, they tapped it along the ground, Motlop picked it up and bombed it through.

In contrast I setup Hawthorn v GCS, and GCS were killing them by 6 goals, didn't get to see the end..... had to abandon it because The Bachelor was starting lol

The close games were low scoring but still intense. There was a lot of aerial ping pong going on (both teams would get it as far as their half forward line, the defence of the other team would get possession and then take it down to their team's forward line). I meant to try and screenshot the "last 10 scoring shots" graphic that pops up, quite often the pattern would be behind.... goal goal goal behind for one team. Then behind behind goal goal behind for the other, sometimes they would trade goals.

Started another new career mode, this time on pc and changing things up be starting at the TAC cup. Took only 2 games to find my rhythm and start racking up possessions and cameo with a goal here and there. What I found interesting there was how instead of it being a tackle fest, the TAC cup has thus far been a bump fest (especially in the center square), I don't get tackled but get bumped and lose the ball.

Played a couple of epics online recently

As it looks, I didn't turn up, then really tightened down in the second half to nearly pinch it. Worst of all, I had a very gettable shot after the 3/4 time siren but the joystick spasmed and I shanked it.

A close, hard fought game. Whilst it may look like I choked away a (small) lead, the other player actually kicked all three goals of the last quarter first, so I found myself two goals down before I knew it. Drew the game level with a kick after the siren.

Edit: Fixed it myself. Turns out by default it was using my integrated graphics card instead of my 960 card.

FYI your PC was not using your on board gpu, unless you have the output plugged in to the onboard port or are using a laptop. If your plugged in to your graphics cards output port (hdmi or dvi) then you were using your graphics card the whole time.

"Global Settings" in Nvidia control panel means the setting for all apps, unless otherwise defined.

What you have done is change the settings specifically for AFL Evo, however, all other apps will use global settings.

You should check out what your global settings are set as as if your noticed an improvement by changing for AFL Evo, then other games & apps should also have an improvement if your global setting are set lower than what you have now set for AFL as per your screen shot.

I wouldn't be surprised if your global setting was actually the same as what you changed it to as what you have chosen in your screenshot is the nvidia default so if it wa set lower globally, then someone has set it up this way.

In the global settings the preferred graphics processor is set to "auto-select".

FIFA and Rocket League for example are using nvidia by default, AFL for some reason used integrated by default.

I got a feeling some of the 2 dozen other people in the steam reviews who had this problem might also have it like that.

A big problem is set shot kicking for goal with no wind. How would you ever miss, except if you are quite far out and let the metre go to red?

I mean, even if you are right on the boundary but 30 metres out, the ball goes dead straight so how could you miss?

At least AFL Live 1 required players to kick on an arc so you had to judge that.

I don't see why the flick upwards of the stick cannot be used to determine the shot angle, just like it does in NBA. Such a simple yet effective mechanic.

Absolutely agree. If there's no wind and you don't overpower the meter, the kick will go straight 100% of the time. Even with wind, it is very easy to judge.
No AFL game has even got close to a good goal kicking mechanic.

Damn this game not being able to properly reflect the unreliable shitness of AFL players kicking set shots.

Banana kicks are tricky though. They've got it back to front.

So you are using a laptop I assume?

Your likely right about the steam reviews.

Turn the speed of the kick meter up. Compensate by adding a bit of extra distance to kicks, and throw in a touch of wind.

I find this has allowed me to try and kick 50m set shots, but to make the distance I have to get pretty close to nailing the meter before it goes red and results in a shanked kick. Also wind effect at about 20 on the slider means you have to judge some wind allowance on top of that.
For all the other shot at goal sliders other than set shot, I've got them all down (for myself) between 40-30, the lower the number the longer the shot.

Played out an epic draw (Dees v hawks down in tassie). Scores were pretty close at half time, came out, and Rioli had moved into the middle, proceeded to kick 2 torpedo goals in a row from the edge of the centre square.
Fought back, hit the lead by 7 with a few mins to go, they scored a point, intercepted, goal. Gawn thumped the next ball up, someone long bombed to Hogan 1 on 1 in the square, siren sounded while it was still in flight and ball was killed by Hawks backman (was smashing my controller to try and get a bump on the backman to no avail..)

If you haven't already, I HIGHLY recommend turning the "count up" clock on like it does at the actual game/ground. Makes for much more exciting games and creates that desperation that creeps in as the time keeps going up!

Absolutely LOVING the game, if anyone else would like the settings that I'm using, I'd be happy to take a few screenies. (Would suit someone who has played 10-15 games but not an absolute pro at it)

And just as an example to the variableness of the game, the very next game, I played as Tigers and SMASHED GC up there lol (but seriously, hope GC get up for the dees' sake)

Edit: forgot to add: Spoiling: 100. Both teams. That plus a higher setting on fumbles makes it much more exciting!

Setup a few AI v AI matches after I finished my first season (winning the TAC cup!). I've got the recordings but lazy with screenshots tonight.

Hawks v Bulldogs

Bulldogs had a 6 point lead at the end of the first quarter. Then a 10 point lead at half time.
Hawthorn were down by 15 at the end of the third quarter, but came back in the final quarter and hit the front in the dying stages. The Bulldogs kicked the last 2 goals of the game to win by 9.

Hawks v Magpies

A scoreless first quarter by the Hawks (Collingwood with 3 goals).
Hawthorn stormed back into the match, kicking 5 goals in the second quarter to Collingwood's 2 goals.
Hawthorn kicked another 5 goals in the second half, to Collingwood's 3. Hawthorn won by 9 points.

Hawks v Cats (x2)

I thought I'd setup 2 contests....
First at the MCG. Low scoring - first quarter Hawks 9 - Geelong 1.
Hawthorn ran away from it after that point, Kicking another 8 goals (3 in the second, 3 in the third and 2 in the final quarter). Whereas Geelong scored 1 behind in the first quarter and didn't score another goal until kicking 3 of them in the final quarter when the game was well and truly over.

Second game at Geelong's home ground........

Hawthorn shot off to an early lead 3 goals to 1.
Geelong came back and kicked away in the second kicking 4 goals to Hawthorn's 1 behind.
Geelong kicked 5 more goals in the third quarter compared to Hawthorn's 2.
Hawthorn kicked 7 goals to Geelong's 2 behinds in the final quarter to seal a miraculous victory.

Hawks v Bombers
Essendon had a 6 point lead at the end of the first quarter.
Hawthorn kicked 6 goals to Essendon's 1 to have a 26 point lead at half time.
Essendon kicked 4 goals 2 to Hawthorns 3 goals, to cut the lead to 18 points going into the final quarter.
Essendon continued to push at Hawthorn's lead, but Hawthorn kicked 2 goals in the final few minutes to win by 18.

I need to start making game highlights of the matches next.

Also I've switched from "normal" game speed to "slow", it brings the game back to ALMOST the same speed as the game on Xbox for me.

I've found playing on legend at slowest speed, and then adjusting inidividual sliders to make up for it is the best combo. Allows for multiple contests and ball ups (like real current day footy)

Anyone else playing on hard on console notice how often CPU will take a set shot from 45-55 out and it will be a torp that sails through everytime?
Also, am i the only one who gets players who never kick on their preferred foot for goal on the run inside 50?

That's an improvement i hope they make in the future..

It seems like an odd thing to miss. The AI clearly has a distribution of kicking directions on set shots, whereas for humans it's either dead straight or a massive spray.

I've accepted the big spray when I have set shots. Now playing with kick charge bar setting at 99, and kick power at 55 from memory.
That means a set shot from 50 is certainly kickable, but highly depends on whether I nail the top of the charging bar.
Would be nice if it was programmed to "just" miss a few more goals, but that's happening more as I gradually increase wind affect up (at about 25 now), meaning quite a few long range set shots hit the post or slide in for a point.
