We will certainly support the game after its release and fix issues via online delivery (but I am sure it will be bug free :) ).
Ahh that's good news. I've seen quite a few games with very annoying bugs which could easily be eliminated but the developer never bothered to release a fix. Roughly how much is the game completed? 75%?

Well it's easier to make pretty faces than pretty animations. I did make sure that I included the word "relative" though. I've made pretty faces before :) Not animated ones though, so that is something I would like to see, but even then I'm not entirely fussed.

I think a lot of us hardcore footy fans here would be more interested in hearing more about the gameplay than just pictures of faces, although I do appreciate them. I've read that players will do proper leads which is good. What about other things like the positioning of players? In the older games you'd generally find 6 forwards up in the forward line. The flankers might come up to the wing every now and then but not often. That wasn't as big an issue back then but these days, you may have guys like Paul Chapman start in the goal square and then work their way to the back pocket. Can we do that with players these days? AFL games in the past always felt like board games. Your players were all confined to specific positions on the ground. Yeah, they could move slightly from there but even then it felt like there was an invisible barrier of about 30m in diameter that they never could move though, unless you directly controlled them of course.

I wish I could share more on the gameplay, but can't. What I can say is that gameplay is the core focus, it comes before graphics, sound, or anything else.

I will say that the AI is very "fluid" and there is a lot of movement to and from space, not necessarily positions. Players will tend to keep to their "comfort zones" but react to team mates and opponents movement. I can't say much more... Soon enough there will be some guys from BF in here and they will be able to report on what they have seen.

LOL :)

I will show some more when I can, I wanted to show indicative quality, and by letting you all choose the player I hope I've shown that. Travis will be the next one posted - I promise!

I know, I know.... :)

I figured more clips are better than less?? (and there are a few notable Bulldogs supporters on here and this might be the last they see of him!)

Massive props to Big Ant Studios for putting in such long and tedious hours on what I am sure will be a record breaking football game for an Australian game developer. I believe one of the recent Rugby games holds the record for highest selling football game by an Aussie developer, but I have no problem believing this game will blow it out of the water so long as it has a decent marketing campaign behind it eg. commercials, magazine adverts/articles, word of mouth here on BF and perhaps (hopefully) a demo of some sort.

The pics are unbelievably good for an Aussie dev - exceptionally good....and as I have heard you saying that game play is the number 1 thing to get right so many times, I trust it will be equally as fun and realistic to play as it is stunning to look at.

For the guy going on a few pages back about how the animations and game play are much harder to replicate and more important than the player's faces - Probably correct (though I imagine the 5 days it takes to do a player's face is no walk in the park), however I do feel it is important to have some sort of realism when it comes to in game replays. Replays in AFL of goals, marks, tackles, hits and of general play occur very often (more than most sports I would think) so to have this level of detail in the player's faces during all of these replays is fantastic and may actually make people want to watch some of them rather than skip them. How bad were the replays in the other AFL games? Couldn't tell Barry Hall from Travis Johnstone apart from the jumper they were that generic.

The substitution talk has been great and personally I love Dynamite Kids idea of having the on the fly interchanges with the use of the d-pad. Can't really see how this would stop the flow of the game play or hinder the player in any way despite HBK619's arguements against it, especially if it was done purely at stoppages. Surely the alternative method, which would be the old 1. Pause game 2. Team Management 3. Substitutions 4. Select player to to come off 5. Select player to come on....you get the point, surely this is much worse than DK's suggestion???

Also, only one poster has mentioned this so far I believe, which probably shows it's distinctive lack of popularity with most gamers, and that is the 'Be a Pro' mode which has been incorporated into a lot of sports titles as of late. I am sure you know what this is and I just wanted to say that I have been having a blast with this game mode in NHL 10, NBA 2K10 and FIFA World Cup South Africa (Captain your Country instead). Even if you couldn't create your own player to be in this mode, I can't even begin to describe how good it would be if I was able to be Buddy for a full game and Buddy only. Tearing up and down the wing collecting 20 possies before resting up forward to wrestle with the likes of your Scarlett's and Lake's. Or being Rioli for the next 10 seasons running rings around opposition midfields -:thumbsu::thumbsu: Hopefully one for future iterations.

Anyway, Kudos to Ross and all the team at Big Ant Studios for the effort they are making here to keep us informed on the game after a long 2 years of nothingness, and for their impressive work so far on the game. I imagine having double the Budget to work with than IR Gurus had with the last AFL game is a good incentive to actually want to make the best game you guys can. Can't wait to see what the end product is like.

ok everyone in my school now knows about this game. i might freeze myself if it doesnt come out this year. getting really pissed off waiting.

Nice post, thanks.

The replays have the clarity of the snippets you've seen.

Be a pro won't be in this iteration but we have a design for it and plans to get it in a later release.

I will reveal the interchange controls tomorrow, I would have tonight but I need to make sure my facts are 100% right.

Aker2.jpg

Looks life like. :thumbsu:

Now that akers sacked will he still be in the game coz he was my fav player back when played at brissyh and would love to play with him

To be honest I am not sure what this means in terms of legailities... I am sure HES (our publisher) will let us know whether we have the license to use his likeness post retirement(?).

quick question are the players going to be this realistic in the actual matches or will they just be a generic template?

The snippets have been grabbed from in-game and are what you can expect to see on the 360/PS3.

So, what will happen in regards to teams like the Gold Coast and GWS? Unless they are available as downloadable content in the future, I don't see this game coming out for a while.

Damn you, Gold Coast and GWS! You've ruined everything!

Also, can you at least hint at when there might be a press release? I know it's legal mumbo jumbo, but it'd be great to know. I understand if you can't.

P.S. The pictures look fantastic, especially Akermanis. Good work, guys at Big Ant. :)
