Interchange info pl0z.

As promised, my interpretation of how the interchange works :)

The Interchange works in conjunction with the switching of players anywhere on the field and does not interfere with gameplay, the game is not paused.

First select the player to switch:
Press the D-Pad (defaults on first menu - Down = Bench, Left = Defence, Up = Followers, Right = Forwards)
Menu pops into hud with options:
Bench
Defence
Followers
Forwards

Use D-pad up and down to navigate, right to select, left to cancel entire operation.

Once area selected, list changes to player names in that region.
Use D-pad up and down to navigate, right to select, left to cancel entire operation.

Once player selected, list changes to regions for the player to swap with:
Bench
Defence
Followers
Forwards
Use D-pad up and down to navigate, right to select, left to cancel entire operation.

Once area selected, list changes to player names in that region.
Use D-pad up and down to navigate, right to select, left to cancel entire operation.

For example, to swap Waite to the bench and bring Betts on:
Press D-Pad Right->
Lists forwards on the field, press down on D-Pad until Waite is highlighted.
Press D-Pad Right->to select Waite
Lists Bench, Defence, Followers, Forwards, Press D-Pad Right->to select Bench
Players on the Bench are listed, press down on D-Pad until Betts is highlighted.
Press D-Pad Right->to select Betts
Waite will then run to the bench and Betts will run to Waite's position.

I have another question for bigant which actually isn't about the cover.

Did BigAnt work on the Rugby game as much as the AFL game, was it the same group of developers? And should we expect a similar game to the Rugby game?

The AFL game was in production at the same time as the NRL game with separate teams. There was technology sharing between the teams but the AI was entirely separate. It is the AI that is the major difference between the codes, they play totally differently, in the same way that Hunt will play entirely differently on the footy field to the rugby field.

Yep, I like that system for interchanges....I have a feeling some may say it sounds a little complicated all whilst playing a game but after a while of practicing it and making sure to only do it at stoppages, I think people will get the hang of it.

Ross just wondering what the official title of this game is, is it afl live 2010, afl 2010 or something different?

You can do it as slowly or quickly as you wish as it doesn't stop gameplay and the menu stays persistent between kicks, goals, whatever... so you can be doing it while controlling players (the D-pad is only used for moving players around in real time). Of course, as mentioned, it's not just for interchanges, you can swap any two players positions.

So you would assume that it's small and transparent then?

Will there be an option where players automatically interchange?

The system you described sounds like the substitution system in the NBA 2k games. However, these games also have an option where players are subbed automatically without you having to do anything, based on different factors (stamina levels, time of game, score (the better players will be on the count if it's a close game, on the bench if its a blowout), etc). I like the manual subs for the NBA games, but for an AFL game where there may be many changes to be made over the course of a game, it'd be a lot easier if the CPU could make some of these changes.

That's great to hear that the menu doesn't disappear so that if you get half way through using the d-pad to make a substitution but the umpire is ready to bounce the ball to restart play, you could wait until the next stoppage to finish the substitution if you'd like. Awesome.

Interchange system sounds good. Everything about this game sounds good at this stage, very much looking forward to its release

This isn't so important but I was wondering if the mappings for PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers on PC version will already be presetup ala FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer so that you can just plug them in and have it work exactly as they would on the consoles?

There will also be a simple auto-interchange based on stamina.

As above, the interface is small and reasonably transparent.

Correct, the menu will persist on the screen until it's selected or cancelled.

Is there season modes and create a player feature? or is that something you can't answer

Another one is, with injuries, will they be realistic and happen during the game etc?

That sounds perfect.

Im assuming you can set up tagging roles here, like you could in the 07 game, is there any fast way to switch the player you are assigning the tag to?

I Appreciate the communication! :thumbsu:

just wondering if the opposition team will be realistic in interchanges? in afl 2007 the opposition team will never make an interchanges unless there is an injury

To add on to that question, can we go in depth with strategies such as zones, man marking and kick out set ups?
