AFL keen to stop fans running on field

Why do these idiots think they have the right to disrupt a football match just because someome kicks 100 goals? The 100th goal is no more or less important than the previous 99, so what's the big deal?

When Gehrig kicked his 100th goal, St.Kilda had all the momentum in a final against Port Adelaide and looking good. Then the 100th goal was kicked, and the idiots came running. When they finally cleared the morons from the arena, Port Adelaide re-grouped and won the game. It cost St.Kilda a realistic shot at the flag.

Back in 1996, I was at the MCG when Dunstall booted his 100th late in the last quarter in a thriller against Melbourne (round 22). Not a very important game, Hawthorn just needed to win to make the finals, that's all. Not as important as idiots getting their jollies by disrupting the game and breaking Hawthorn's run.

He booted his 100th goal, and the brain dead swarmed onto the ground. It took them the best part of 10 minutes to clear the ground. However, as if idiots swarming onto the ground wasn't enough, there were people who took their footies onto the ground and were having kicks. And when it was suggested to them they leave the ground, they just kept kicking the footy!!! I've never witnessed such lunacy ... not even from football fans.

The football public seem to be able to observe the fact they are NOT permitted to enter the arena during the match, or until after the sirens sound at the end of the day. So why then can't they just stay off the gound when a 100th goal is kicked? It just doesn't make sense.

Why don't we all run on if a player kicks 10 for the match, or if he kicks his 500th career goal? Why don't we run on if a player has his 400th kick for the season, or if someone takes a spectacular mark? Because it would be silly that's way. So why then do we have to run onto the ground because a player kicks his 100th goal for the season. Simple answer .. we don't.

And if you feel you must charge onto the ground like a demented foot soldier, then try to consider how you would feel if you were on the ground and a thousand idiots came charging towards you. It's a dangerous practice. Don't do it.
I think this is the first time i have agreed with you

There is absolutely no reason why these halfwits need to run onto the playing arena...the ground is sacrosanct for the players and officials ..not for the brain dead plebs that sit in the stands.

This idiotic practice of storming onto the ground almsot certainly cost the Saints a grand final appearance and possibly their second flag.

It wouldn't be so bad if it was only kids running onto the ground as that would be understandable ..but there are middle age men out there ..can you imagine being mobbed by Joffa and the collingwood cheersquad ???

There are so many idiots and mentally incapacitated loons out there..added to the drugged up and boozed up bottom feeders it is just too risky ..it only takes one remember .

Keep the morons off the ground until the game is ended..that way everyone stays safe and the players can go about their jobs in relative safety.

With your logic, why celebrate the grand final? It's just another win against a team you already played that year, what's the big deal? Seriously get off your stick in the "I'm too obese to jump the fence" mud. Thousands, if not millions, look forward to everyone storming the ground and the excitement it brings. This security increase could even be a publicity stunt to ensure the last 3 games are sellouts.

Ease up fella, he asks a valid question - why resort to this shit?

The question is "why do people think they have a right to run onto the field to celebrate someone's 100th goal"?

It's complete bullshit. Would be sad to lose a great footy tradition due to unfounded paranoia.

Players walk the streets without security guards, they frequent nightclubs with drunk and drugged up bogans. What makes people think they're at any greater risk when some excited fans run on to celebrate a milestone? Ridiculous.

They'll fine as many people as they can so wear the long studs boys, you'll want to keep your feet or you'll get some heffer of a security guard's knees in your back.

It would be a great footy story if they both did it in the same match!

I think if Buddy gets the ton early in a game he will DOMINATE for the rest of the day.

Highly unlikely but a funny scenario would be for one of them to kick 100, fans rush on, 15-20 mins later everyone is back in seats. Then, the other one kicks their 100 straight after & people flood the ground again.

It's a rubbish tradition. It adds nothing to the game. It would be tolerable if it was just kids under the age of 14 and they gave him a pat on the back and then quickly went back to their seats. But most of these people are idiots, disrupting the game, larking about and trying to get their heads on television.

It's the mob mentality. We're not allowed on the ground. Look! 3,000 other people are running on! Perfect excuse! What are we waiting for? Let's go!

Why do people feel the need to run onto the ground? I can understand kids wanting to do it, but adults? Don't understand it.

What sort of person is going to kinghit an opposition player?
The sort of idiot who ruined Terry Alderman's career in a pitch invasion in a test match some years back. It's only got to happen once, and then it's too late.

How would Hawks fans feel if Buddy kicked his 100th, then got injured in the crush & couldn't play in the finals?

That was Terry Aldermans fault and you know it. He chose to try and tackle the bloke.

Haha that Terry guy was a pussy and you know it, falls over and pops his shoulder. Reminds me of some of the geriatrics that post here "no no can't run onto the field, someone may die, woe is me, the sky is falling, think of the children".

All you need is one crazed fan from the losing team to run onto the field with a knife.....

OMG seriously!! no one's gong to carrying ****ing knives on them to a football match!

people aren't going to try and bash the crap out of players!

come on guys get a grip unless monica Sellas crazed fan is out of jail and has a new liking for buddy then I think were safe!

Don't see myself running on...and we have just about killed every tradition in footy...why not another one. gee, more chance of getting killed driving or public transport to the G than getting stomped on or a player assaulted (imagine the lynch mob if that happened anyway...it would be a death wish...you could even get a small handgun in your coat or bag...not like u go through a metal detector etc...damn the day we all have airport style security). For goodness sake, let's not all get too scared to leave our homes incase we get struck by lightning....

Hey, I agree with you. 99% of those people will not want to do anything like that.

You are crazy if you think every single person attending a footy match is mentally stable though. And that's the point.

No there will be idiots no doubt....but why should we live in fear of idiots....we won't and we don't. We just get on with it. The chances of something happening are 0. When footy becomes like the cricket in India and we watch it behind barbed wire fences, well bugger me, I won't be going and will take up synchronised diving instead.

Couldnt the same crazy man just stab the player if he runs into the boundary line, or perhaps crazy man can take a gun to the footy, and shoot from over the fence.

Hang on, why would a crazy man want to injure a player in front of all those cameras. Why doesnt he just wait outside the club after training, or go to a popular nightspot ?

Im with Adelaide Hawk here.

What is the point of it?

Your not going to get within 10 metres of Buddy anyway.

Things have changed. We used to play in mudpits in the centre of the ground, nowdays grounds are in top condition all the time. The dome or where ever doesnt need 10,000 people running on it.

And just because it been done before doesnt mean its alright.

Can those advocating running onto the ground please let me in on the secret of what is good about it, other than tradition.

As far as I can tell all it does is interrupt the game and no-one gets within a mile of the player who kicks the goal. I remember Lloydy running off the ground once waiting for the ground to clear, seems like a pointless waste of time to me. I think the player involved would rather celebrate the achievement with his team mates than 10,000 random idiots.
