Re: Fun Police at it again

it prob cost st-kilda a grand final apprerance against Port Adelaide, as the Saints has the run of play and the invation cost them some momentum. its a by gone tradition that needs to be forgotten.

and the dopey people who run on the ground don't think of things like that. The game gets held up for 10-15 minutes trying to get the morons off the ground and all momentum is lost.

Didn't one of the fathers of a StKilda player admit to running on that night ?

Re: Fun Police at it again

I can remember when people ran on to the WACA after the cricket. Terry Alderman got grabbed by one young bloke who wanted to congratulate him and ended up with his career ****ed 'cos they injured his shoulder that bad when they grabbed him.
The 18 year old who did it ended up with a criminal record over it.
That was back in the 80's and they banned people running onto the WACA then.

Didn't Alderman tackle that bloke and that's how he did his shoulder?

Re: Fun Police at it again

Instead of making it about the rules, they should just let Buddy and Fev tell all the "fans" clearly that it's annoying and they'd rather celebrate the milestone with their teammates than a crowd of idiots. I remember how little Plugger and Ablett seemed to enjoy it when they had the corwds running on -it might have made the day more fun for the pitch invaders, but obviously less fun for the guy at the centre of it.

The only difference between this behaviour and Peter Hore wrecking Australia's game against Iran is that there are more serial pests on the loose.

Re: Fun Police at it again

I don't pay my money to watch a goose run onto the ground and disrupt the football. The public are not allowed onto the ground, simple as that. If you can't handle that, then stay away.
Agreed!

I hope Buddy gets his 100th early in the game, and the police/security nab as many as they can, so they can get kicked out of the ground AND fined.

The sensible majority just want to watch 2 teams play football.

Re: Fun Police at it again

It's an anachronism. The field should be for the players.

It's just been pure luck that nothing bad has happened with all the nutbags around the place.

Stay off the oval and leave the back patting to the players team mates and the opposition.

didnt we used to run on the ground up until the mid 80's, until a player was assulted then the second siren rule was brought in. If you want to follow tradition and kick the ball/run on the grounds after a game go watch the VFL or amo's, if you want to watch a professional player/league then realise the we have moved on from the past and are in a different time the players are owed a duty of care not to have ten tousand people invading the ground, no matter how small the chances of something happening are.

whilst were at it, i think the run through banners should be banned. they have out live the usefullness.

I don't disagree at all. You missed my point in relation to what I quoted.

We shouldn't be making changes to our game simply because it's not done in other sports. That's not a justification for change. Safety however is.

Re: Fun Police at it again

If the security is doing its job at the gate, the weapon won't be permitted entry, thwarting that potential trouble, thankfully.

That's a pretty big "if" given that most security guards aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer themselves. I've never seen them bust out with the metal-detecting wands before a game.

Re: Fun Police at it again

To all of you " pro pitch invaders "

Think of the players safety.
Imagine if a player/s is injured and misses games?
He / They will sue the hell out of the AFL and rightly so and the invaders should be prosecuted and will have a civil law suit to contend as well .
Think before you jump.

Re: Fun Police at it again

people were banned from running onto the ground when the final siren went so why should they be able to after a player kicks his 100th, it prob cost st-kilda a grand final apprerance against Port Adelaide, as the Saints has the run of play and the invation cost them some momentum. its a by gone tradition that needs to be forgotten.

Not more of the delusional theory that people running on the ground cost st.kilda a grand final spot..

Probably the fact that they weren't good enough stopped st.kilda from playing in the grand final..

Re: Fun Police at it again

It's actually a lot easier to solve this problem than people think. Just shoot the first person to run out. See how many people follow then.

Make an example out of one person and the rest will fall into line.

you been watching tooooo many Olympics :D

then again i believe the coverage on tv hasnt been the greatest.

Re: Fun Police at it again

True, but if the dude hadn't been going at him he wouldn't have tackled him.

Not quite true, the guy was running from Alderman when he was tackled.

The young bloke and his family received death threats for months, forcing them to move house more than once, to protect their identity.

If he had his time again, he would never had jumped that fence.

It's an old tradition that should be banned, simple.

To the OP.Do you want to watch the game behind wire fences, just like football in Europe ?

Re: Fun Police at it again

The OP is right. The fun police are at it again - and you guys are the fun police. I enjoyed going out onto the ground after Plugger's 1300th goal, and thousands of others also went out there. Whatever happened to wonder and excitement at the world? You are all too serious. And if you want to ban breaks in play, perhaps we should also ban injuries that require stretchers.

Stupid stupid theory  Prisoners in Goals can hide homemade weapons on their body and in their cells ..and you expect gate security at a football ground to be able to track down every weapon from a crowd of 50,000 people ???
that is almost laughable in it's stupidity .

As for the OP ..keep the morons off the ground..it wouldn't be so bad if it was just kids , but there are middle aged men running out there .

The ground is for the players and officials ..lets kee it that way.

I agree. people say port adelaide were able to regroup and make a comeback as a result of people running on but why couldnt st kilda do the same? the adrenalin shouldve been pumping much more for them after that moment. why couldnt they regroup and stretch the lead by more. its just another one of those sh!tty st kilda supporter excuses as to why their overrated list never won a flag.
but back onto the issue...
I see on the article from the afl website that matt lloyd said he loved everyone running on when he kicked his ton each time. we know what hes like and he loves to be the centre of attention but who wouldnt want everyone running out to celebrate you and your acheivement? what will happen if no one runs on but buddy is standing on the field encouraging people to come out? you would think hes the type of guy who will thrive on that sort of attention.

Security should really surround the player who kicks the 100 rather than trying to catch the 6000 or so that run onto the ground.

I agree the primary concern of security should be to protect players and officials but this is the AFL's chance to stamp this out once and for all. There are only realistically six or so games where Fev or Buddy can kick the ton. The AFL is rolling in money, pay for enough security to protect the players and grab the pitch invaders. As I have already pointed out, you only need to severely penalise a small minority for the rest to get the idea.

Depends what the AFL is trying to stamp out. I don't really think safety is the issue.

Call me cynical, but I think a 10 minute, unscheduled delay would push a broadcast off kilter, piss off a few advertisers and make the whole league look like they can't control an event.

This gives them 2 options
1. Stop people getting on the ground. (mission impossible)
2. Get people off the ground QUICKLY. (concession of defeat).

Penalising a few people in a crowd is like the old speed camera punishment - you just feel like you've been targeted if you get caught, rather than feeling like you've done something wrong. I don' think it will work.

I think violence is the answer. The security guards should hurt every person that runs onto the ground that they can. I suggest riot gear and batons.

Either that or barbed wire fence around the ground. Otherwise they just won't stop it.
