AFL Live 2 - bugs, glitches, fixes, suggestions

AFL Live 2 have been responding to messages on Facebook stating they're "looking into the feasibility" of a DLC. Not a good sign given we were led to believe there would definitely be a DLC come the start of the season when they released the game.

Yes I got this message on Facebook yesterday about a DLC.

"Hi Phillip, we are currently looking into creating a DLC and the feasibility of the project, I apologize that we do not have a definite answer at this stage. "

Time will tell I guess, where there is a chance there is hope or soemthing. Anyone else get this problem, twice now while on my team line up screen I have tried to activate my sub and not only does the game lock up, but my PS3 does too. I did ask them why and this was their response. " the bug you mention has been recorded and recognized and will be fixed." I hope so as it is annoying.

I have had the sub problem, and had it on the previous game as well.

On time, though, I moved a whole lot of players to different positions, and activated the sub, in between making moves. I did this during a break. The game seemed to keep playing.

Next time, activate the sub at a break, and do it with two or three other moves, but not the first move you make, or the last one. Moving others in between moving the sub doesn't seem to lock it up, or it didn't the one time I tried it.

The sub issue happens most of the time. No combination of moves works every time (others have suggested methods similar to catman71 but they're all hit-and-miss).
It annoys me that now, in March 2014, they acknowledge the bug and claim it will be fixed. They've known about it since September 2013, and not bothered to fix it so far...

To be honest I just think an AFL game isn't that profitable, and therefore the interest levels in putting a lot of effort and budget into it is pretty low.

I am one of the game's main detractors but I am glad you guys are working on making this game good. I will give the patch and DLC a go when they come out.

If you guys want any input on the Gold Coast list then I am more than happy to add my two bobs. I am not claiming to be any sort of expert but being a tragic fan I know every single player back to front including their positions, attributes, weakness/strengths etc.

Good luck guys. I wait with baited breath.

ability to give players differant Numbers for when the trade period is over this year etc and the ability to tap/ruck in all directions not just N S E W. also the ability to change Players positions as Ellis for Richmond is listed as CHB and when you select "auto select" or whatever the option is called for auto selecting teams, it drops J.Riewoldt and has Maric as FF and Rance at CHF when he's either CHB or FB!

Love that there is team creation, what exactly is alternative controller mapping? as in the game controls are editable?

Great to hear! A few small issues that need to be addressed include
- No free kick when ball bounces over boundary line without being touched from kick ins
- Inability to have set shot from out of the bounds on the full
- Some greater variance in speed
- Giving players the option to choose the way the 'default team' lines up, when I changed around a few the players all switched jumpers (eg Mcintosh starting ruck in Geelong team, I went to edit team to put Simpson there. Went to play and it was Simpson with Mcintosh's jumper)
- Allowing for change of players preferred positions
- Allowing for a smoother, easier play on from a mark/free kick

Still struggling to get a decent idea of where things are at with this game since the initial patch came out.

Bought the thing when it first came out and returned it within 24 hours. It was horrendous.

Is the game now better than Big Ant AFL Live gameplay wise cos that's what Im basing my decision on in regards to picking it up again.

Are there any gamebreaking bugs?

Cheers

Not even close. The patch fixed a couple glaring issues but it's still light years behind AFL1 in terms of gameplay.

Well in the scheme of things AFL 1 was ordinary so I take it this would make a good drinks coaster

Here's a bunch of possible ideas I wrote out for this game a little while ago. Some things are hard to explain but if you've played it, no doubt you'll relate to these.

Free kicks off the ball:
Shepherding off the ball, the distance needs to be increased. Perhaps holding triangle (ps3) could work as a Shepherd instead of a bump, the player could spread the arms and break the running path of the opposition. Too often I lay a Shepard/bump and give a free kick even though I'm so close to the ball. This mostly applies to 2 player when you have a friend working with you and you have the ability to work off the ball but the bumping distance does need to be increased.

Kicking/running pace:
The player slows up way too much after a sprint when trying to kick the ball. You can have a really good run down the wing and as the opposition starts nearing, you go to kick the ball and the players pace just almost stops they get so slow which results in a tackle. I'm not sure each individual players pace is specific to their real life attributes or not but players like Sydney's Lewis Jetta, Gary Rohan etc are extremely fast and should have pace over a lot of players.

Snap kicking around the body up the ground with the X Button (PS3):
When taking a mark, the player runs towards the opposition goal (with their back to the man on the mark) and then turns to face the right way (to face their own goals/offensive side of the ground) to take their kick. When this happens it is fine providing you want to take the kick once the players have moved to their positions. Often, I'll take a mark and see a free player 20 metres down the line, I'll hold X (ps3) aim at the player and kick as soon as I've taken the mark but the player with the ball isn't facing the right way. Instead of being able to kick around the body like players would do in real life, the player will just end up kicking the ball to the boundary or the complete wrong direction. I think the fix here would be for players to be able to snap completely around the body even with their back to the goals. In a real life situation, a player could go around the body or even kick over their head in order to kick the ball forward.

Being tackled with a shot on goal:
In the game, you can be running in on goal, take your shot at goal and then get tackled. This results in the ball spraying off sideways every single time... This gets incredibly frustrating. In a real life situation sometimes the ball will go straight and goal, sometimes if the tackles right it will spray and completely miss. I think some odds need to be added to this. Maybe every 2 in 5 kicks go straight instead of there being a 100% spray rate.

Ground ball bounce direction:
Sometimes I'll kick a long clearing ball to the boundary or a long shot at goal and the ball will hit the ground and bounce at right angles. I don't mind this because an AFL ball is extremely unpredictable but I think most often the ball should hit the ground and roll straight and perhaps every 1 in 10 kicks that hit the ground should have a strange bounce. It seems more often than not that the ball will just hit the turf and shoot off sideways causing a boundary throw in or a point when aiming at goal.

Interchange:
The computer needs to be a bit smarter and interchange players from respective positions a little wiser. Most players are okay but when it puts a tiny guy in the ruck it's quite frustrating. I have learned to use a second ruckman as the first guy on the bench because they tend to tire first and will rotate with the first guy on the bench but this tactic isn't 100%. An idea would be for position one on the bench to rotate as a ruckman, position 2 to rotate as a forward/mid and position 3 to rotate as a back/mid. Obviously this isn't what they do in AFL but for the sake of streamlining the game, this would be excellent. Even making an option for each bench position so you can choose if you want them to rotate with forward/mid/back or ruck. Just something so your players will interchange with some sense. Like most people, I can't be bothered doing the interchange myself so the sub never ends up coming on, is it possible to get the sub to come on for the player who's had the least disposals at the start of the 4th or have a pop up at 3 quarter time which gets you to choose a player to swap for the sub. If a player gets injured enough to not be able to come back on, does the sub automatically come on in replacement? Most of all, the select button (ps3) should open up the interchange menu, this would streamline the whole interchange process massively!

These were probably the main things that got frustrating when playing, most other things are minor and aren't too bad. The ability to play on instantly from all types of marks is something that could possibly be improved slightly further but all in all, I'm looking forward to what will be brought to the new update/DLC.

Hi everyone. I've got a quick question. How do you get one of your players suspended? I've seen you guys talking about it but I personally have never had a player suspended.

H
Are you playing mostly with Adam Goodes?
HAHAHA! That's the best one I've heard all day. No, whatever team I use, I can't seem to get suspended. I even tried bumping off the ball and all it did was give a free kick. Do you know how to get suspended?
