Hey, Can you play me online? i need a challenge lol
Was just about to come on here and ask who was up for an online match. I'll probably be destroyed as I haven't really played much online but I shall be there.

You wrote Big Ant Studies.
Fail on my behalf. Cheers man.

EDIT: Thanks as well jwalks. The irony of pulling up a developer for not looking at their product well enough and then making basic errors.

I had 4 injuries in rd2 which is spot on and one of them was Sloane. Anyone know how to see what the injury is? It just says +2 I think.

Picked it up from EB Toowoomba today! :D

Didn't bother playing on Rookie at all, went straight into a game on Professional. Took on Port Adelaide using Richmond.

Using 10 minute quarters, I was very pleasantly surprised about the realistic looking scorelines at the end of the match. Here's how my first AFL Live match went:

Quarter Time: Richmond 3.3.21 - 4.2.26 Port Adelaide

Port kicked the first 3 goals of the match and opened up a 19 point lead halfway into the 1st quarter. Used some defensive tactics early on and played tempo footy, and eventually worked myself back in front by the narrowest of margins. Motlop kicked a late goal from 45m out after the siren to put the Power in front at quarter time.

Half Time: Richmond 4.4.28 - 4.3.29 Port Adelaide

I decided in the second quarter that I would need to shut the Power off (no pun intended), so I played possession footy and started to get on top in the hitouts. Tackling pressure was immense, as has been stated on here, but after a scoreless stalemate for the first 12 minutes (on game clock) I was able to sneak in a goal. In the last 5 minutes or so I let my guard down, but the Power couldn't make me pay and only kicked behinds. Power by up 1 at the long break.

3 Quarter Time: Richmond 9.5.59 - 6.7.43 Port Adelaide

In the 3rd quarter, the Power kicked the first goal, and by this time I was starting to come to the conclusion that my defensive mindset in my first ever match was not going to work. So I decided I'd start going for it, and began an all out attack which produced 5.1 to 0.0 in the space of about 8 or 9 game minutes. Suddenly, after hanging on for alot of the match, and trying desperately to keep the Power quiet, I had completely taken control. Gus Graham wasn't missing a hitout, and anytime a Power player went near it, there were two of my guys waiting to smash him and take possession of the pill. I turned an 8 point deficit into a 22 point lead, and although the Power got one back late, my confidence was sky high.

Full Time: Richmond 14.8.92 to 9.12.66 Port Adelaide

Ball up to start the final quarter. Graham taps to the advantage of Cotchin, who runs onto the ball, handballs to Grigg who then evades a tackle, and chips it into the leading Riewoldt. Early goal, and I was satisfied that this game was mine. However Port kept coming, and after kicking a couple of goals within a few moments of lapse defending on my part, the margin had suddenly gotten back to within a kick (65-59 in favour of Richmond). However I had the nerve to steady, and with the help of some Troy Taylor brilliance, and a Riewoldt banana kick from 50m that somehow went through the sticks, I was able to steady and get the margin out to 32 points, before Motlop kicked his 4th goal on the siren to bring the final margin to a respectable 26 points.

Richmond Key stats:

Deledio - 21 possessions
Foley - 20 possessions
Riewoldt - 12 possessions, 6 goals

Didn't pay much attention to Port's final stats, however like I stated before, Motlop kicked 4 and looked dangerous whenever he went near it. Schulz also went alright, although I think he kicked at least 2 behinds from set shots.

AFL Live 2011 can improve in alot of areas, but for a company's first try, they did better than what IR Gurus did in 5 years of making AFL games.

Cheers Big Ant, looking forward to spending long hours on this very solid game.

PS: If you do a patch, could you possibly make it so that Richmond can have their normal away guernsey with white shorts? Also, while briefly checking out season mode, I noticed that the game length can't be changed for matches actually played.

It would be good if, like in NBA 2k11, when doing season mode you could set simmed matches to have quarters of 10 minutes, and maybe only play 5 minutes when actually playing with your team, so all the scores in the season mode match up.

Anyway, apart from that, awesome game! :)

I keep losing online, I thought I was gunna be awesome after my first game which was an eight goal win and then have lost my next 6 by more than 6 goals each time. I just make so many stupid ****ing mistakes, like punching in the wrong direction, accidentally pressing kick instead of my players taking a set shot and my players not going into space.

Yeah I won my first and have lost 3/4 since then and the one I would have won on the other guy quit. They to seem pick up the ball under pressure and snap on goal so easily, whereas I can't do it for the life of me.

I have threatend to throw my xbox out the window, or snap the game disk tonight so much its lost all meaning. Game is so frustrating.

While the game does has some frustrating issues it isn't the cause of all your frustration.

If you accidentally bang your thumb while hammering a nail, is it the hammer's fault?

I think right now, the game can't be driving you this insane - it would be how you're playing it. Give it time and you'll get the hang of the controls and feel for the game.

Just had my first 2 online matches - Completely lag free :thumbsu:

Got thumped in my first match and thumped some guy in the second.

Love the tagging system, the tactics, the huddle kick-in......This game, for the first in the series, is awesome. Better than I expected. Few minor flaws/bugs but nothing that makes it unplayable by any stretch of the imagination.

anyone have any tips for kicking in, tackling ang fending off? im struggling a bit with these and the ruck but im slowly picking the ruck up....online it seems players just dodge my guys when i press tackle (they have more room than i do and i try to dispose quick but get tackled straight away)

The tackling is getting beyond ridiculous, I thought I could put up with it earlier but it is getting more and more frustrating every minute. I want to get a kick away but the only kind I can get away is a freaking 5 metre dribble which results in more congestion and tackling.

Me and my brother were playing online together and destroying it.

Gonna go try and play against the insane AI just to see if its actually hard.

PS: Quivioror (sorry if bad spelling) I'm coming for you. :p

Agreed, won the NAB cup as the Dogs tonight. :D Also got thumped online in my one and only game.

Only thing I don't like is the Dogs rucks are pretty weak at clearances, they get smashed by most teams.

I suck at tackling I don't hold the Y button down long enough. With spoiling I would prefer it to be RT and Y instead of LT and Y as you're then using the one hand. I keep pressing the wrong trigger (lucky for me it then trys to mark)

Same with I would prefer the Sprint button to LB not RB as then I'm moving the thumbstick and pressing the button on the same side. Maybe it's just me. :)

Just while we're on spoiling.....Has anyone else noticed that you (possibly?) don't need to hold down LT/L2 to spoil with the right analog stick? I always forget to hold down L2 yet my spoil still works just using the stick....

Anyway, bed time I guess.....9am start :(

What about when you try to change players but it goes to some random that isn't anywhere near the ball?
What about when you finally get the player you are after and he does a quick u-turn in the other direction?

The game has so many frustraiting things about it, im not sure if the good outweigh's the bad at this point.
