Hi Ross,

Just wondering in the next version of AFL Live will there be co-op multiplayer with more than 2 XBOX Live Users?

I know you can do 2 vs 2 online with 2 players on each console, but I would love to play 2 vs 2 with 3 other friends over XBOX LIVE.

Sorry if this has been answered before but the search doesn't seem to be woking for me ATM.
Ross has said it won't/can't be done for 360, but could for PS3.

Cheers for the dev diary Ross, yet another sign that BigAnt is trying to connect with the gamers more than the average company, especially relatively small ones.

The marking is something I've definitely grown to love over the months and is well explained in this document. If there were a known point at which to press the mark button (well, I'm sure you guys probably know it but we don't!) then it would become a bit too easy. The risk vs reward system works well.

I unfortunately feel that the ruck system has become a bit too predictable because everyone knows when they should hit the button and it games between two good players, it normally comes down to the skill of the ruckman (I'm looking at you, stupid over-powered Sandilands) more than that of the player. The choice of tap vs punch also comes into it, as punches are much more likely to win. As far as I can tell, there is no risk vs reward system in the ruck.

With the exception of a couple of midfielder setups, the ruckman punch is the preferred option (in my experience). It is also much easier to win the ruck with a punch than it is a tap, which seems to be the wrong way around. In addition, the punch is too over-powered, especially with some players. I'll be honest, if I'm playing at a time when many other people are on I'll often quit the lobby if someone plays with Fremantle, as I know that there will be lots of "Sandilands punch, Mundy runs on, kick to Pavlich on lead, goal" and it is unfortunately too easy for bad players to execute that chain of actions.

Anyway, those are my 2 cents. I still play the game constantly (#7 baby ;) ) and have lots of fun with it. Almost all of the objectives mentioned in the diary have been achieved. It is definitely a game where about 80% of the time you have to think like a footballer to win the game, not think like someone playing a video game. The ruck contests would fall into the other 20%.

So the Developer's diary, which is really a Designer's diary now that I have read it again will, be posted here on BF today once Andy does some updates to do with the patch so as to make it current (even the diary gets a patch!)....

Thanks man!

Ross a little left field, but do you have an ex Team Bondi people working for you?

Yes there are people who escaped the Team Bondi Holiday Camp and for their crimes they are now imprisoned here, forever, muhahahah

Seriously, we have some guys that are working in our offices at Big Ant Malaysia that were formerly working at Team Bondi.

Why do you ask?

Was reading an article on kotaku about Bondi and was just curious. Can't be good for the gaming industry in Australia getting negative press like that.

It's not good for Team Bondi going forward but is no reflection upon us - anyone that knows us or has visited the team here knows what it is like to work at Big Ant.

I certainly take pride in our work environment and believe it second to none, it's a place that I love to turn up to every day. Indeed we are the only *real* independant console developer left in Australia so we must continue to fly the flag as best we can or the independant industry in Australia is pretty well gone for good.

Yeah of course, casting no aspersion on your team. Your guys didn't look like they were chained to the desks when I visited. ;)

There's a few BF guys that have been to the office and of course people have met staff (and myself) at the playtests, I'm pretty open book here, as you can be when you've got nothing to hide.

Not saying that it's not hard work making games, it is, but it's all worth it when you create something people love to play.

Sounds good mate. :) Looking forward to the XBLA cricket game

Report their names in the thread then. People don't go out of their way to mention a player unless they've had a bad experience. Unfortunately for you, someone had a bad experience with you.

So is there really a momentum factor in this game? I swear sometimes everything goes my way (marks, players in space etc), then sometimes I can't do anything right and no matter how hard I try, they always get to the ball first.

If so, that's just a really bad thing to have in a game (if you can't see a meter or something on screen). I mean, every goal should be discrete from the last. You should go to a centre bounce at a disadvantage because you turned it over a few times before that. Yes, AFL is like that, but this is a game with a million glitches, and if the glitches are adding to the other team's turnovers then it's just multiplies the disadvantage, even if you're a better player than your opponent.
